View 1 Replies View RelatedThere was a message on here about using Ordinate Set to create an ordinate dimension to an apparent intersection and I've managed to do that, but is there a way to use just Ordinate to dimension to an apparent intersection? I've tried dragging and right click menu but no luck.
I'm using Inventor Professional 2012.
I can put a regular dimension to an intersection, but when I rmb I do not have the intersection option when placing an ordinate dimension. Is there another way to go about putting an ordinate dimension to an intersection?

And you can only edit the dimension, i.e. the Origin symbol, but not delete it !? Don't know if there is a change from previous versions of Inventor to 2009.

View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to set my origin point to a hole center. When you create the first ordinate dimension, you have to set the origin marker. For the upper view, I want to set the origin to be the same as the view below it. View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to place my ordinate dimension to a theoretical sharp corner and the dimension will only go to the end of the arc (see pict). I try and drag the dimension end point by selecting the end of on line and dragging it over, select the other line and drag it till the two yellow dots meet at the intersection.
When I let go of the mouse button to place the dimension it pops to one side or the other of the arc.
In 2013, just placed a view in an idw. Now I need it rotated 90°. In pre2012, there was a rotate Horizontal and Rotate vertical command where we could pick the edge and it would align to it.
Has that been taken out of 2013 or am I just overlooking it? Restarted Inventor and that didnt work. I did not restore the marking menu because I have some customizations that I dont want to lose.
For what its worth, Wiki help shows the "Rotate View" command in the video..... maybe I don't have the full version...IDK. Looks like I am missing several commands here, like Apply Design View.
I can only get horizontal or vertical 'orientation' in "Break" view.
How do I rotate it to say 60degrees to use on an iso view?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am drawing ordinate dimensions in blocks and then I am getting the geometric extents of these blocks, if the block contains the dimension, the extents are much larger than expected. What may be the cause?
See the attached drawing, the lines are connecting geometric extents MinPoint and MaxPoint. For the blocks that don't have dimension in them, the extents are correct.
Currently, when I do drawings, I give my machinists drawings with each point, and they program their machines. To do that, they calculate the round part diameters, which is basically 5" - 2x<Dim>.
I'd like it if I could give them drawings with the real number, and in parenthesis next to it, 5-2x<Dim>.
I've attached a jpg of what I normally give them and how I'd like it to look. Is this something do-able via a macro or something?
I cant get a dimension to work in the vertical (Z) plane. i have a cube and can get dimensions to work properly in the x*y plane (horizontal) but when i try to dimension the vertical side autocad refuses to dimension anything vertical, all i get is a horizontal dimension of the distance between the 2 points i have selected vertically, set down on the horizontal plane. tried to get it to work in 3d workspace and also the 2d annotation & dimensioning workspace -no joy...

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm making this diagram of the load condition acting on tunnels to explain a Japanese set of equations that are used for the structural analysis for tunnels:
load condition for EEM.jpg
But, there is one problem I have. I'm trying to set up the text for the dimension between the water table and the tunnel "Ha" to look horizontal.
However, if I click on the properties box and write 90 in the rotation box right next to where it says "text rotation," the dimension text does not rotate 90 degrees; if instead I try to rotate it 180° then it only rotates 90° (and in the opposite direction) instead of 180°. It doesn't matter how many degrees I choose, it won't rotate my dimension "Ha" to desired angle to make it look horizontal.
OK I know it's hard to explain my problem with just writing, so I've posted a few pictures:
In this one, the dimension is at 0°; I've only opened the properties box to attempt and rotate it: no rotation.jpg
Now I write 90 in properties box but the dimension text does not rotate at all; it remains at 0 as it is shown in the following image: 90 & no rotation.jpg
Next I try to rotate 180, just to see what happens; and it does rotate (only 90 degrees!): 180 rotates 90.jpg
I finally try to rotate the text 270 just to see if it rotates to desired angle and it does rotate (180 degrees from original position). As shown below:
270 last try.jpg
It doesn't matter how many degrees I choose, I cannot make it look horizontal.
How can I set up my dimension text "Ha" to look horizontal?
I have a grouped object with a line in it. I want to rotate the grouped object so, that the line in the object is horizontal or vertical. Now I do it by hand, this takes a lot of time.

I filmed a video of my daughter with my DSLR camera and shot my take vertically. No doubt this is a clear sign to all of you reading this that I am a beginner, I mean a trainee-wheels-nappies-spoon-fed beginner. When importing my vertical file it lies horizontal in this CC editor. Surely this must be some button to push to rotate my take back to vertical. Meanwhile I’ll fix myself up with some band-aides and thumb through the ABC book to the part about horizontal out-put devices.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe're having a problem with Ordinate dimensions. When we dimension to a radius corner, we dim to the "implied intersection" of the two lines, rather than to the center of the radius. We make a sketch with the two "tick marks", then dim to the intersection of the tick marks.
Ordinate dimensions are not allowing us to pick the intersection: it wants to put two (or three) dimensions, one to each end of one or the other tick marks (see attached). We use Ordinate dims about once a year, but I'm sure I remember being able to ordinate dimension to the tick marks.
I have had to revise a part that someone else created at some earlier date. They used the ordinate dimensions, which works perfectly and looks good.
I have had to add some holes to this part, but can not figure out how to add more dimensions to the existing ones, outside of deleting the dimensions and dimensioning them all over again.
How do I add more ordinate dimensions to the existing?
I design molds for the rubber industry and I was using Acad 2000; I am just now starting to use inventor. I need to used the ordinate dimensioning although I need the dimension to be given as a diameter and not as a radius. Is there anyway to scale the ordinate dimension automatically as 2:1? This way when I give the prints to the tool room they don't have to manually double every diametrical dimension. The prints that I draw only show half of the mold, there for needing a 2:1 dimension scale.
