AutoCAD Inventor :: Edit Ordinate Dimension To Basic

Jan 23, 2013

How could I edit each ordinate dimension to basic or add for the selected dimension a tolerance? Is it possible to edit each ordinate dimension individually? How could I get the value of the selected dimension?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Ordinate Dimension To Apparent Intersection? (but Not Using Ordinate Set)

Jun 11, 2013

There was a message on here about using Ordinate Set to create an ordinate dimension to an apparent intersection and I've managed to do that, but is there a way to use just Ordinate to dimension to an apparent intersection? I've tried dragging and right click menu but no luck.

I'm using Inventor Professional 2012.

Is there a way to override a dimension and have it shown as a GD&T Basic dimension. I can override a dimension with the text option but not with a box around the letter. It sounds strange to do this but the letter represents a dimension in a chart format that are Basic dimensions.

Inventor 2009....how to remove an Ordinate dimension (not Ordinate Dimension Set). It seems you can only make one per view. And you can only edit the dimension, i.e. the Origin symbol, but not delete it !? Don't know if there is a change from previous versions of Inventor to 2009.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Place Ordinate Dimension To Theoretical Sharp Corner

Aug 19, 2003

I'm trying to place my ordinate dimension to a theoretical sharp corner and the dimension will only go to the end of the arc (see pict). I try and drag the dimension end point by selecting the end of on line and dragging it over, select the other line and drag it till the two yellow dots meet at the intersection.

When I let go of the mouse button to place the dimension it pops to one side or the other of the arc.

AutoCAD .NET :: Ordinate Dimension In Blocks - Getting Geometric Extents

Sep 9, 2013

I am drawing ordinate dimensions in blocks and then I am getting the geometric extents of these blocks, if the block contains the dimension, the extents are much larger than expected. What may be the cause?

See the attached drawing, the lines are  connecting geometric extents MinPoint and MaxPoint. For the blocks that don't have dimension in them, the extents are correct.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Add Calculated Text To Ordinate Dimension

Aug 8, 2013

Currently, when I do drawings, I give my machinists drawings with each point, and they program their machines.  To do that, they calculate the round part diameters, which is basically 5" - 2x<Dim>.

I'd like it if I could give them drawings with the real number, and in parenthesis next to it, 5-2x<Dim>.

I've attached a jpg of what I normally give them and how I'd like it to look. Is this something do-able via a macro or something?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sketch Exits Upon Dimension Edit?

Dec 9, 2011

Seen this recently? Using Inventor 2012 SP1 on Windows 7, 64 bit. If we go back into a previously created sketch and edit or add a dimension, upon clicking the green check mark to complete the dimension edit, the sketch exits back to the modelling environment, meaning we have to edit the sketch again to continue with other changes. Obviously no big deal if I'm only editing one dimension, but how often does that happen?

This started happening prior to SP1 being installed. We have this happening on multiple computers (all with the same hardware specs) in our office. I don't believe it to be a hardware or driver issue, but I am wondering if it is a process issue. For example, we use project geometry a lot, even projecting from other parts within an assembly (non-adaptively). We also work on SAT file models, rather than geometry initially created from Inventor itself.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Edit Dimension Window Size?

Is there any way to set that 'edit dimension' window/box in the sketch environment so that it opens to the length of the parameter being used? All my models for our library items are entirely controlled by Excel sheets and the names of the parameters are often quite lengthy. It's very annoying to have to drag the edit dimension box wider each time and push home or end to see everything.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Turn Off Edit Dimension When Created 2013?

Aug 14, 2012

I have been using Inventor 2013 for a few weeks now and for the life of me I can not work out how to turn off the automatic "Edit dimension when created" .

I do know that there are "Edit dimension when created" checkboxes in both the Edit Dimension window and under Application Options.  But everytime I restart Inventor, the program seems to forget that particular custom setting and always switches "Edit dimension when created" back on.  So that on the first dimension I create, the Edit Dimension window pops up.

For additional info Inventor remembers many of the other custom settings (e.g. compact tool bar, active button on the Quick Access Toolbar, etc...)

I've checked the application options, under Drawing tab, I do have "Edit dimension when created" checked, yet IV does not display the edit dialogue box upon initial creation of the dimension.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Ordinate Dim To Sketch Entities

Feb 20, 2012

We're having a problem with Ordinate dimensions.  When we dimension to a radius corner, we dim to the "implied intersection" of the two lines, rather than to the center of the radius.  We make a sketch with the two "tick marks", then dim to the intersection of the tick marks.

Ordinate dimensions are not allowing us to pick the intersection:  it wants to put two (or three) dimensions, one to each end of one or the other tick marks (see attached).  We use Ordinate dims about once a year, but I'm sure I remember being able to ordinate dimension to the tick marks.

I design molds for the rubber industry and I was using Acad 2000; I am just now starting to use inventor. I need to used the ordinate dimensioning although I need the dimension to be given as a diameter and not as a radius. Is there anyway to scale the ordinate dimension automatically as 2:1? This way when I give the prints to the tool room they don't have to manually double every diametrical dimension. The prints that I draw only show half of the mold, there for needing a 2:1 dimension scale.
