Feb 12, 2013I'm trying to place text below a dimension. When I dimension horizontally it works just fine. When I dimension vertically there is a problem.

It will not print the text from vertical dimension strings, and cuts off some M-text at an imaginary vertical line in the middle of the text box. PDF's of the same drawing look fine. Is this a printer driver issue? Is there anything I can do within AutoCAD?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have detail drawings that contain horizontal and vertical dimensions. They're drawn at full scale in model space and saved as individual drawings. We then insert them as blocks onto a sheet in paper space, scaling them down to 1/2", 1/4" scale ETC.
Here's the problem - all the vertical dimension text appears bolder than everything else when scaled down. Horizontal text is just fine, diagonal text also looks a little bolder though.
I have a problem with the display of the text string when creating a dimension, been through all the options within the styles manager however no option to display the text to the right of the dim line, it always defaults text to inside the dim line, where the option to toggle alignment of text on a vertical dimension line is ?

How do you remove singular dimensions from within a string of linear dimensions?
At the moment I cannot delete individual dimensions and am required to delete all dimensions in that string and start again.
I am trying to edit the placement of vertical text within a dimension line - I wish for the text to be outside the dimension line not inside.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to have an aligned dimension where you can type your own text in the field "under"?
It is only possible to do this with linear dimensions but I have a building that isn't straigth and there I have this problem with linear dimensions that are not parallel with the wall.
I would like to make the dimension text smaller so that the information doesn't become so crowded. I notice that the dimensions are written like 12' - 10 3/4", with a space between the ' and the - and a space between the - and the 10, rather than 12'-10 3/4", like an old-fashioned person like me would write. Is there a way to control that? I looked into the dimension edit dialog box & couldn't see a way. AutoCAD writes them like I like.

I wanted to have the color of the dimension text different from the dimension line but couldn’t find where such option might be found.
I'm working on a project where I've modeled obstacles for an obstacle course on a military installation and I'm having some issues with isometric views and adding dimensions at various UCS orientations.
Basically, each obstacle has a plan view and an isometric to depict height of some of the material above ground level and below.
I've tried re-orienting the UCS to accomodate the dimensions and it works to a degree but there has to be an easier way.
When I select the points for my dimension, I'm prompted...
Specify dimension line location or
[Mtext/Text/Angle/Horizontal/Vertical/Rotated]:
I need the dimensions to be vertical in the isometric. I've been messing with it and I was able to eventually get it right but is there an easier way?
Whenever the dimension is drawn in model space the dimenion ends up far from where it needs to be. I always have to relocate it and re-select where I want the dimension lines to be.
Also, is there some kind of add-on that might make 3D dimensions easier?
Also, I have a thin solid representing the ground level so that everything below ground level results in a hidden line (due to the visual style I'm using) in the isometric drawings.
This works out great but any dimensions below ground level end up hidden. I don't think there is any way around this though with the style I have in use.
I've gone with simple callouts specifying overall material heights to avoid these issues in the meantime.
Im trying to find a way to select just the vertical dimensions. Quick select doesn't work because it selects every dimension.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have build a solid in which the projection of the hole on the face of the cube is an ellipse. However, as I did not create the ellipses on the faces, but the ellipses are just the result of the projection of an empty egg inside an extruded rectangle on the faces of the extruded rectangle. How can I see the dimensions of the ellipses? I tried to use the measure distance command, but with no success.
I´m attaching the model file.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have programs that at some point or another create dimensions for what was drawn. When you have a vertical dimension that doesn't fit between the extension lines, it will either go up and to the right or down and to the left.
I can change it manually by selecting the dimension and then right click and pick Dim Text position > Move with leader.
What I want to know is, is there a way to set the vertical dimension where you want it programatically? I would like to put the vertical dimension down and to the right of the arrows if possible.
The title says it all, Im trying to find a way to select just the vertical dimensions. Quick select doesn't work because there's no difference between a vertical and a horizontal dimension, so i was wondering if there was a LISP or something else i could do to accomplish this.

I am trying to put in the vertical dimension from the center of circle "A" to the center of circle "B", however, when I select the center of "A" and move to "B" the dimension flips to Horizontal.
Is there a way to restrict this tool to Horizontal or Vertical?
I'm trying to get the dimension text that I pull out to the side closer to the actual dimension marks. The 2 1/2" and 2" shown have a minimum distance they can get toward their dimensions. I would like it to be about half of what it is, but so far I haven't been able to find the property that changes that.

For my dimension style, I have my text placement set to over dimension line, with leader, so I can drag the actual text outside the dimension line with a leader attached when necessary, but when I try to move the text outside of the dimension line it always draws the leader underlining the entire piece of text that I have moved. Is there a way to control the leader to attach to the middle of the line and not underline the entire piece of text when doing this operation?

The “regular dimensions” are not changed as the “constrains dimension” are!
I’m wondering why the “regular dimension” don’t change automatcislly as the “constrains dimension” change?
Do we really need to re-make all the regular dimension manually? How does this increase the performance and the integrity of the work?
Is there some workaround to have the “regular dimensions” change as the “constrains dimension” do?
