AutoCad 2D :: Angle Dimension With Text Below Dimension Line?
Jul 29, 2011
When doing an angle dimension and trying to put text under the dimension line, the text types out straight which if long enough will extend over the dimension line. Other then creating text with arctext, is there no other way to get it curved? I am using AutoCAD 2010.

I'm making this diagram of the load condition acting on tunnels to explain a Japanese set of equations that are used for the structural analysis for tunnels:
load condition for EEM.jpg
But, there is one problem I have. I'm trying to set up the text for the dimension between the water table and the tunnel "Ha" to look horizontal.
However, if I click on the properties box and write 90 in the rotation box right next to where it says "text rotation," the dimension text does not rotate 90 degrees; if instead I try to rotate it 180° then it only rotates 90° (and in the opposite direction) instead of 180°. It doesn't matter how many degrees I choose, it won't rotate my dimension "Ha" to desired angle to make it look horizontal.
OK I know it's hard to explain my problem with just writing, so I've posted a few pictures:
In this one, the dimension is at 0°; I've only opened the properties box to attempt and rotate it: no rotation.jpg
Now I write 90 in properties box but the dimension text does not rotate at all; it remains at 0 as it is shown in the following image: 90 & no rotation.jpg
Next I try to rotate 180, just to see what happens; and it does rotate (only 90 degrees!): 180 rotates 90.jpg
I finally try to rotate the text 270 just to see if it rotates to desired angle and it does rotate (180 degrees from original position). As shown below:
270 last try.jpg
It doesn't matter how many degrees I choose, I cannot make it look horizontal.
How can I set up my dimension text "Ha" to look horizontal?

I want to insert dimension lines on this project. But instead of having an actual dimension I'd like it just to be a letter that refers back to a chart of possible dimensions for that element. How do I do this? I'm using AutoCad Architecture 2012.

I'm trying to get the dimension text that I pull out to the side closer to the actual dimension marks. The 2 1/2" and 2" shown have a minimum distance they can get toward their dimensions. I would like it to be about half of what it is, but so far I haven't been able to find the property that changes that.

One of my dimension scales doesn't draw a line back to the dimension when I move the number away from the dimension line. All my other dimensions do it. I keep looking for the setting that must be changed but I cannot find it. What setting creates a line from the dimension number back to the center of the dimension line if you pull the dimension number away from the line?

Is there a variable to force dimension text line to show? I am using annotative dimensions and the placement for the text is forced to the outside of the dimension if it doesn't fit. I get annoyed on having to move the text to show the dimline above the dimension.

how to edit the line space distance for the dimension text. I can change the style, size and several other features. But the line space distance is the one thing I can't seem to edit. The only solution I know of and use is exploding the dimension and then the text turns to mtext and the option becomes available. But then if the section changes to a shorter/longer area, i have to go through several steps with the exploded lines. how to edit the line space distance for the annotation in the dimensions. i have also attached a pic of my issue as well.

If I place a dimension and have text above and below the dimension line (using X), and then grip edit the dimension text to move it for space/clarity on plans, the text above and below the line will mysteriously move closer to the line. If I have backgrounds applied to the text, which I normally do, the backgrounds will cover the line. Even without the background, it looks odd next to other dimensions that were not grip edited.

Is it possible to override a dimension with some sort of formula or function that relates to the length of the dimension?
A simple linear scaling might be possible by inventing a new unit with the appropriate conversion ratio, but that wouldn't work. What I need for the dimension to display a length 400 less than the actual length.

I am having an issue with my dimensions. If I have a dimension that is 1'-3" or larger, my extension line beyond my dimension line extends the normal length, but as soon as my dimension goes under 1'-3", the extension line then gets twice as long outside of the dimension line (see attachment). I have researched...and i can't seem to find a dim variable that will let me change this. is there anything to control this happening once my dimension goes below 1'-3"?

I'm inserting dimensions and the tics keep coming out huge and not on the dimension line, in fact there's one on either side 20 ft out. If I change the drawing scale in the tab at a the bottom the tics get smaller and closer in, but they are still off the dimension string by a long shot.

I need to routinely insert text into or near my dimensions but my dimensions need to be kept as basic dimensions meaning they need to have the box around them as in the picture. What I want to do is what the first dimension shows with the "2x" outside the dimension box but that first one is a combination of suppressing the dimension line and inserting a leader so the 2x will be within the line. Otherwise the normal dimension is what is shown below. How can I increase the line gap from the dimension options without 1) increasing the dimension box with DIMGAP or 2) inserting a line that's separate from the dimension itself or 3) exploding
