Mar 4, 2013How do I edit a dimension text to add a second line (so dimension on top of the line and text on the second line)?

View 3 RepliesIf I place a dimension and have text above and below the dimension line (using X), and then grip edit the dimension text to move it for space/clarity on plans, the text above and below the line will mysteriously move closer to the line. If I have backgrounds applied to the text, which I normally do, the backgrounds will cover the line. Even without the background, it looks odd next to other dimensions that were not grip edited.

is it possible to have a dimension style setup that shows the dimension text inline with the dimension - without having to move it?I have been looking but cannot seem to do it - is it possible and I am just missing it?

I’m wondering why the “leader” of the “dimension text” disappears when the text is moved.

I need to show this “leader” all the time. Is that possible?
Please, have a look on the screenshots below (the file is attached).
One of my dimension scales doesn't draw a line back to the dimension when I move the number away from the dimension line. All my other dimensions do it. I keep looking for the setting that must be changed but I cannot find it. What setting creates a line from the dimension number back to the center of the dimension line if you pull the dimension number away from the line?

View 3 Replies View Relatedhow to edit the line space distance for the dimension text. I can change the style, size and several other features. But the line space distance is the one thing I can't seem to edit. The only solution I know of and use is exploding the dimension and then the text turns to mtext and the option becomes available. But then if the section changes to a shorter/longer area, i have to go through several steps with the exploded lines. how to edit the line space distance for the annotation in the dimensions. i have also attached a pic of my issue as well.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to move the horizontal text of a vertical dimension that's outside of the extension lines to the right or left?
This was possible years ago with a simple stretch or moving of the text grip. Now, if the dimension is above the extension lines, the text is to the right. If it is below the extension lines, the text is to the left.
Same drawing (attached) with identical settings printed on one PC using DWG to PDF - creates this:

So, some angle and aligned length dimensions are mirrored.

File is created and printed in 2010 LT, hence no UCS rotation, text style and print settings unaltered.
I have a problem to edit the dimension with autocad 2012. When i try to double click on the dimension text, i have a error message. This command doesn't exit.

In LT it is correct (left hand image), both styles are STANDARD font but in the full version (right hand image) the suffix text style is ROMANS.
I lost my dimension text on all my drawings when I converted with Windows 7. I did reload the 2010 software from scratch. I am thinking it is some type of .dll file issue or font issue.

I want to draw an object similar to the dimension that contains two arrowheads with TWO “text dimension” to indicate the range each “steel bar” covers. This is important to indicate the range the two bars cover with the same dimension object.

know if there a way to use fields in a table to pull the measurements out of dimensions snapped in a drawing (or layout) and place them in that table.
I create framing drawings and am looking for a quick way to put together a cut list without having to manually type dimensions into a table.
I have a rather weird problem. I am using .dxf files as digital overlays on a new optical comparator we recently purchased. The problem is, the cad files we used to create our old mylar overlays is both 3d and comprised of text/curves/dimensions. I figured out the flattening and turning the text into lines and curves, but I cannot find a method to change the dimension graphics (profile boxes, length dimensions, and angle dimensions) into lines and curves.
When I import them into the comparator program only the lines and curves can be displayed on the comparator. Is there any way to flatten and make all of the dimension graphics lines and curves?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to get the “text” or “block” parallel to a particular line?there is more than one way to alight the text with a particular line but wondering if there might be more powerful tools to do so.
“Rotate” and “Align” are possible commands to align the text with particular line. Parallel constrain is another option to do so but will make the drawing “busy” with additional parameter.
Equally, what if I need to make a block parallel to a particular line? In this case, the “parallel constrain” doesn’t work! Just I may take the advantage of “rotate” and “align”..What I wanted to know if there is a more brilliant way to get the“text” or “block” PARALLEL to a particular line with a smart tool.

I am having an issue with my dimensions. If I have a dimension that is 1'-3" or larger, my extension line beyond my dimension line extends the normal length, but as soon as my dimension goes under 1'-3", the extension line then gets twice as long outside of the dimension line (see attachment). I have researched...and i can't seem to find a dim variable that will let me change this. is there anything to control this happening once my dimension goes below 1'-3"?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to change the text line width in model space, not the overall text width or the text line width/weight in paper space. Our mold maker wants to measure that on screen and he wants to set the text line width to 0.060”, while the overall text width fixed.
For example, the text “REMOVE FROM BOAT” is 3” wide total from first letter R to last letter T and height 0.4”. That is easy to do. The hard part is that he wants the line in each letter to be 0.060” (1.5mm) wide. I practiced the true type text which is measurable in model space, but that is fixed with for a certain font with a certain size. I can change from one font to the other and get different thickness but cannot change the width freely to 1.5mm as requested.
