3ds Max Modeling :: How To Rotate 30 Degrees Along An Axis

Feb 24, 2012

I am trying to rotate 30 degrees along an axis.

In Rhino, it is simply using Rotate3D -> pick your axis of rotation -> type degrees -> enter

In Max, how do I pick an axis rather than world XYZ?

I'll upload pictures for details

AutoCAD Inventor :: Rotation Translation - Get Circumference Of Wheel To Rotate 360 Degrees

Dec 23, 2013

I have Autodesk inventor standard NOT the pro version. I am a Revit professional in dire need of learning Inventor. My exact steps are as follows:

1. Open assembly
2. create component - (simple wheel(cylinder) with an off axis hole in the middle so I can see if it is rotating.)
3. create component- flat surface.
4. constrain the cylinder to the flat surface via a tangent constraint
5. constrain the cylinder to the front edge of the flat surface via a mate constraint.
6. go to motion tab in constraint's, click rotation-translation, type in 10in for distance.
7.wheel does not rotate on surface like a wheel should. There is no affect of the surface on the wheel rotation.

In other words I want to get the circumference of the wheel to rotate 360 degrees as it travels pi*diameter of flat surface.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Stainless Steel Sheet - Rotate Texture Through 90 Degrees

Aug 7, 2013

We use a lot of #4 finish Stainless steel sheet.

I have automated the changing of the active renderstyle to "Polished Brushed" to approximate this, but usually orientation is important. For instance, the texture will be around tube, and on large sheets, we want to keep all the sections orientated one specific direction.

I'd like to be able to easily rotate the texture thru 90 degrees (and possibly, a user selectable angle).

I'd prefer not to have to manually select a face first, either.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Grip Snap Rotate By Axis Malfunction?

Nov 16, 2011

I'm trying to rotate a piece in an assembly by a selected axis to a precise angle, but the program just won't let me. I get to rotate it around with my mouse, but it only lets me change the angles at 5 degrees minimum. I try to type in a precise angle into the box, but it only lets me type in 1 character. Below is a screenshot of what I mean (I'm using Inventor 2011).

[URL]....

It either only lets me put in the first digit or won't let me manually change the value at all. What is up with this? The tutorials clearly says I can put in a arbitrary value.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Rotate IDW View Horizontal / Vertical

May 19, 2012

In 2013, just placed a view in an idw.  Now I need it rotated 90°.  In pre2012, there was a rotate Horizontal and Rotate vertical command where we could pick the edge and it would align to it.

Has that been taken out of 2013 or am I just overlooking it?  Restarted Inventor and that didnt work.  I did not restore the marking menu because I have some customizations that I dont want to lose.

For what its worth, Wiki help shows the "Rotate View" command in the video..... maybe I don't have the full version...IDK.  Looks like I am missing several commands here, like Apply Design View.

Or maybe because of the axis i made through the M24 thread?

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Rotate Attribute 180 Degrees About Its Center?

Jul 11, 2011

Attached is a dynamic block for a civil grid tick.  It's my first time creating a dynamic block so it's probably not the most efficent use of the dynamic parameters etc.

I have it setup with 4 visibility states to allow the northing and easting attributes to "rotate" about the center of the grid tick, to give options for readablity and/or text overlap.

What I wanted to add was figure out how to make the individual attributes flip 180 degrees about a point (roughly the center of the attribute).  Again this would be for readability.

3ds Max :: Rotate Objects At 90 Degrees

Jun 10, 2013

In my work i rotate objects mostly 90 degrees CW or CCW and I always wanted to make a hotkey for it.. There's a command in 3dsmax called "RotateCW" for it, but it doesn't work when more than one object is selected..  also i tried doing it with script :

macroScript Rotate90Z
category:"DragAndDrop"
toolTip:""
(
(
rotate $ (angleaxis 90 [0,0,1])
)
)

but this rotates objects only about their pivots even if option "use selection's center" is chosen and even if objects are grouped - it rotates objects in the group independently but not the group as a whole. It's completely inappropriate.

Normally i select objects (or a group), then go in "select and rotate" mode, type in 90 degrees and  it works well. So i'd like to imitate this behavior by a script or some other way to set a hotkey for this set of actions..

3ds Max Animation :: Animate Moving 180 Degrees Around Central Axis Remote From Cylinder

Oct 29, 2013

I have a cylindrical tube that I need to animate moving 180 degrees around a central axis remote from the cylinder.  I also want to create a circular motion locally for the cylindrical tube as it follows the 180 degree arc.I planned on creating the 180 degree rotation first and then the local circular motion second.

When I created the first motion I tried to use an object (another cylinder) as the transform centre for the rotation.  As soon as I click on "Auto-key" the "Use transform centre" option is greyed out.  I therefore moved the cylindrical tubes own pivot to the required position for centre of rotation.  After I created the 180 degree rotation I moved the pivot back so that I could create the local rotation.  At this point I find that the original motion has now changed to suit the new pivot point.

how I can get the "Use transform centre" option to work in this instance?

when you have a 3D-object, with a specific origin, i would like to know how it is positioned in space, X, Y, and Z coordinates, but also A, B, and C (like Tilt, Roll, Pitch), where A is rotation Angle around Z-axis, B around Y-axis, and C around X-axis. I am using this for a kuka robot

i can change the position of the UCS, but don't know how to only rotate the ucs about the Z-axis

AutoCAD 2010 :: Rotate UCS By Z-axis

Jun 27, 2012

The behavior in AutoCAD 2012 has changed with regard to the UCS command. I am trying to rotate my UCS along the Z-axis.

In 2011, I could enter UCS [enter] Z [enter] then select 2 points on *any* line using END point osnaps to have the ucs rotate along the Z-axis at the angle of the selected line.

Now in 2012 when I enter UCS [enter] Z [enter], a rubber-band line displays anchored from a pre-selected point which appears to be the drawing origin, usually 0,0,0.  I am only allowed to select a single point, which results in the UCS NOT rotating to match the line as before.

I am aware that I could now use the OBject option, and then select one end of the line.  This is fine except it does not work if I select a line that is part of an attached xref.  With the old method in 2011, I could select 2 points of *any* line.

I am also aware that I could "type" in a value in both cases above but that option is too time-consuming and error-prone. Are there any legacy options available for the UCS command to make it work as before?  Or is there a way to override the UCS-Z command option to not pre-select the first point at the drawing origin?

AutoCad 3D :: Rotate UCS Around Z-Axis Only - Functionality Gone?

Dec 5, 2013

This week I upgraded from 2011 to 2014 and have noticed a major change in rotating the UCS around only the Z-axis.

Looking at the image below (the blue box is just to represent the relationship between the pipes):

I want to, as a simple example, rotate the UCS around the Z-axis from the end of one pipe to the end of the other. In 2011 UCS, Z would allow me to select the end of one pipe and the end of the other and rotate to the angle of the red line shown.

In 2014 UCS, Z rotates the UCS from some unrelated point.
In 2014 UCS then selecting the two ends rotates the UCS X-axis to the direct line between the two.

In a working scenario the end of the two pipes would be in vastly different positions. Drawing a line between them, flattening it then using UCS, E on the flattened line give the functionality I want, but is a very slow way of doing it.

In 2011 if I wanted to rotate the UCS around the Z-axis I would type UCS, Z then select 2 points and the UCS would rotate around the Z-axis but the X & Y axis would remain as it was. This is no longer the case in 2014, how do I do this now?
