AutoCAD Inventor :: Surface Filleting With Edge
Jun 6, 2012I made this surface joining different other surfaces. I would like to fillet this surface edge with edge, not face with face.Is it possible?

View 2 RepliesI am building a Crankshaft. How to build the connecting weights that attach the main journals to the connecting rod journals. I can post a screenshot of the design. I have a extruded face that is a half circle on the top.so I am trying to fillet or cut a section off of the rounded edge. I have tried to build tangent workplanes and projecting geomety, but to no avail.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIf it would be possible to round the edges of the solid i attached as a .dwg file. I thought it would make sense to use the FILLET command but it didn't seem to work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSometimes when I am filleting lines they end up joining together like a Polyline. Is there a setting I can turn off that will not allow lines to join when filleting?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI keep getting an error that reads: "Cannot fillet between these two entities."
This occurs when I try to use the radius option when filleting an arc and a polyline. I am unsure as to why this occurs on and off on my drawing, as it has previously worked on other sections. I have attatched a copy to make things easier and highlighted three areas where I am experiencing this problem. I am using AutoCAD LT 2006.
I have a model that represents a casting with some finished surfaces that I'm trying to throw some fillets and rounds on but the software keeps balking at finishing the process. I've started at various points around the object only to be frustrated when I try to get the final edges to mesh with all the rest.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if you could generate a 3D poly line from a surface which I have sliced. I am trying to establish retaining wall heights in a cutting on an embankment. I have generated the slope using 2 3D polylines offset and edgesurfed between them. I then put my proposed footpath at the desired location. When I needed to slice the mesh I had to convert it to a surface. It worked but I now do not have any nodes that I can connect vertical lines to in order for me to design wall heights etc.
Is there a way to generate a 3D poly from the sliced edge of a surface.
how I can add more volume to curved object surface? Say for example I have a plastic cup.You can think of this as cylinder object ,which was the shelled out using the shell tool and then had its base sealed.
Now at certain parts, I would like to increase the thickness and then blend it the rest of the surface(may be chamfer its edges) .
At certain parts on curved surface I would like to add an extra mm, I think if the surface was flat I would just sketch the shape, then extrude it by few mm and smooth the edges by doing a chamfer
But how can this be done on surface that is curved? Or multi curved for edges?
I'm designing a press for a skateboard similar to: Rib Press
I have the board modeled: (see attached)
Now what i want to do is generate those ribs as seen in the picture.
I tried creating a block that intersected with the board and tried to split the rib at the surface, but to no avail. I think the issue has something to do with the curve of the board in two directions, but i can't seem to get it right.
if you are having trouble visualizing what i'm asking about, look at this. I want to be able to figure out the exact shape of those center ribs to print and eventually cut out of wood.
It is not possible forme to add the fil because it is to large 1.8MB how can I poste then I like to know if it is possible to extend the button flat surface diameter ø12.5 up to the shaped surface. The result should be a total solid block whit a surface shaped hole.

We received a surface model from a vendor that I have patched up as best I can, it still has one hole that I can find that I haven't been able to fill. Ideally we would like to have a solid model, but I'm running out of time to get this done and the surface model we have would be good enough for our purposes IF I can get the yellow surface tangent lines to turn off or change their color to black.
I've attached a jpg of the surface model with the yellow lines and uploaded the model here: [URL].....
Did something change in 2013 as far as the way surfaces are displayed in an idw? the surfaces always always had to be "included" in a idw view. now they come in as regular geometry.

I am trying to build a robotic head using the surface modeling and thereafter thicken the surface to form solid. I was not able to load the original model as the file size is exceeded. I use a derive model and the problem is similar.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was watching on of the "Sales" videos on Autodesk.com. I saw them extruding a part surface to another surface of an imported part. I have a need to do this. When I try to extrude my part, I cant pick the surface that I need it to go to.
The video I am watching is here. Its titled "Native Translators". They show the surface being extruded at about the 0:53 mark.
The problem that I have is while working in the assembly, I double click on my part to edit it in the assembly. Next I chose Extrude and "To Next", but I am unable to pick the surface I need it to go to. The surface is in another part that is in the assembly. The part I am trying to extrude is adaptive, like in the video.
I did notice that in the video, when they pick the "to Next", the add/cut/intersect is greyed out.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to research how to create a custom surface. I found this article [URL]...... about how to to create a surface from a jpeg. The article says to "expand color on the top left." of the style editor. However, when I open the dialogue there is no "color" that can be expanded. The only thing in the top left of dialogue box is "lighting." Is there another step that the article misses, or is there another way for me to create a surface from a jpeg?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI found a VBA-code on internet which turn off all work features (plane, axis, points) in all documents in an assembly.
I want to modify it so it turns of all surface bodies instead. I use skeleton modelling where i only want to keep the solids visible and not the surfaces. When I run this iLogic rule all solids get turned off instead of surface bodies.
This code works (when edited) for axis, points, planes, allworkfeatures etc.

I have a question regarding a transitional constraint between a pin and a surface within an adaptive assembly.
I would like the pin and the surface to be transitional only when the two parts "interfere" with each other.
At the moment with the example attached part A is remaining tangent to part B, restricting the necessary movement of part B to function properly in the mechanism.
In simplified terms I need part B to be able to break free of the "transitional constraint" of part A under certain movement conditions within the mechanism.
I'm attempting to use the "emboss" feature and wrapping the text to the surface of the part.
Attached is the example of the part I am working with. Also attached is the error message I receive after attempting the process. Is there another way to wrap the text about the surface of a "coiled" face?
I'm loft retarded. What I did here was loft to a tangent work plane, then did a sketch on the top surface and extruded the shape that I want. There has to be a better & easier way.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have several IGES files that I need to make into solid models. I have been searching for days on how to do it in Inventor 2012 and everyone says how easy it is, but yet I have no luck. This file was created from a scanned mold and then made using a point cloud.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to make a model of saddle surface. The surface is given by equation z = y^2 - x^2, and I must have some thickness - It will be printed on 3D printer.
I have Inventor 2014 and I dont see possibility of making the surface directly in Inventor. Is there any trick for that?
I'm afraid I cannot use solution as stated here Equation-driven surface , because saddle surface looks like this hyperbolic paraboloid .
I tried this solution: I made 3D surface in Matlab, exported it in .stl and opened in Inventor - but this only makes the surface with no thickness. Functions extrude, loft require 2D sketch.
Basically I’m trying to create a circular cut in a flat pattern for a hole made in a rolled piece of sheet metal.
I have created a "case" (this is what we call it) to mount an axial fan, it will require holes for mounting the motor plate. When I create these holes in the rolled case assembly they appear to be fine, but when I flatten it they are turned into two sets of semi-circles or ellipses.
This is only a problem when we run the parts on our Laser; the laser will attempt to start the cutting at the end of each of these "semi-circles" causing a hotspot where the two semi circles meet. This causes the hole to be slightly smaller than intended in this area causing great difficulty inserting bolts, they normally require drilling.
Our material thicknesses vary from about 3mm to 8mm.
I’ve included a crude example of what I’m trying to achieve. To really see what I mean, place the file into a Drawing file and zoom into the hole. I couldn't add the file, with only 3 features the file was 5mb in size.
By the way, I have a temporary solution, it's just a little complicated. (My solution: use square holes first in the un-flat, use the diagonal lines from each corner of the square in a sketch on the flat pattern to place a circular cut on its mid points.)

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe just upgraded Inventor from 2013 to 2014.
I opened a model generated in previous releases and noticed that there were parts with a strange yellow highlight.
Turns out the parts aren't explicitly highlighted, it's just that their edges are yellow. See the screenshot below.
I usually work in the 'Shaded with Edges' view style. I found that if the view style is changed to 'Shaded' or 'Realistic', the yellow disappears with the edges.
The only parts the yellow edges seem to affect are ones generated as surfaces. I would like to know how to turn the yellow off is possible. So far I've tried changing the part appearance in the toolbar and changing the surface body properties in the model tree; neither method worked.
Now I don't model in surfaces, but there have been purchased parts imported into Inventor that have in the past ended up as surfaces, and it's these parts that have the highlight. I haven't noticed anything like this in previous releases.
How to delete a work surface. These work surfaces were imported from an iges file which contains thousands of work surfaces. They are not associated with a part feature which can be deleted. I've developed a routine to sort through these and identify unwanted work surfaces based on their positions. The best I've been able to come up with is to make them invisible, but I'd really like to delete them completely to clean up the file. I did try to loop through and delete any surface body objects associated with the work surface but that failed.
