View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a sheetmetal part and flat pattern of a 72" radius section with 3" split flange top and bottom.I have searched the Discussion Group and several other sites with no results.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Inventor 2010 and I have a problem with connecting the sheet metal corners to each other when making round radius flanges. How to connect the corners to each other (even though this is probably not possible in reality). Even better would be if the flat pattern of the sheet metal part would also look proper.
Note that the short edges are 90 deg bent and longer edges are 75 and 105 deg bent. This also makes creating "corner fill" parts a bit tricky.
Looking for reasons why I can't export DXF files from Inventor Sheetmetal parts. This has only occurred in the last few days.
Error says "Sketch export failed to initialize translator". This occurs when I run either of my 2 DXF macros AND if I RMB on the part Flat Pattern and Export Face As (or something like that - haven't that in a while). The macros lead me to a debug lin of oDataIO.WriteDataToFile sOut, oDXFfileNAME
I have used these 2 macros for 5+ years and have not experienced this before.
Add-ins shows that the Translator: DXF is Automatic / On Demand.
I found an earlier post here [URL] .... but this seems to be loosely related to Avast. I have Trend (server based). Can't remember any new installations of late apart from Flash.

I'm trying to create a hole in a sheet-metal part so that a pipe can be welded in it, see attached picture. What's the best method to do this? Because the flat-pattern of this hole isn't an ellipse-shape (more like an egg), it seems it's very difficult to do.

Inventor 2013-I'm working on a sheet metal cover using contour roll and I find when I dimension the flat pattern that radii that should be the same are not. Can my approach is fundamentally flawed? I tried making this part out of one 220 degree contour roll and I found when dimensioning that the center points of the arcs are not symmetric as expected. I then used two contour rolls to create the part basing the second contour roll on the first contour roll sketches and I still have the same issues.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using IV 2010. After creating a sheetmetal ipart my part grows slightly between each variance.
When toggling between the different parts IV says that they need updated. I have updated them but if I toggle back after updating the other parts IV wants me to update again and it creates a circle of updating. Does this mean that making a sheet metal i part is a half baked idea? Right now the way the program is responding to sheet metal iparts it would appear that you either cannot have a flat pattern or you part cannot lengthen or shorten the different variances with keeping the flat pattern. It would appear that all is well with part with exception of this updating problem. How to eliminate IV from asking to update in between variances while keeping the flat pattern? Also I am using sheet metal extens add in.
Why does the revolve cut not work.I need to cut this section off

Inventor 2013
I am attempting to revolve a sketch between two surfaces in Autodesk Inventor Professional 2012. The problem is that the extrusion is being created on the opposite side of the two surfaces that I want.
For example, I have two flanges on a cylinder. I would like the feature to be created to stretch on the lower side, the larger angle, where the sketch is. Instead, it is creating the feature on the upper side, the smaller angle.
I have adjusted everything I can within the revolve feature options, including unchecking "minimum solution" and switching the starting and terminating faces.
In the attached file I am attempting to revolve "Sketch 7" about the x-axis, between the two flanges closest to the "top." The sketch is centered on where I want the revolved feature to be created.
it is possible to make such a part from sheetmetal in order to create a flat pattern with Inventor 2010?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi a'm using Inventor routed 2011 and am having a issue with a revolve. I created an axis with a sketch in the part. Than i created a plane that does not pass through that axis. i sketch on that plane than try to revolve using the axis. it gives me an error. what i have is a arm3+"w x 28"l that is pivoting in the in the center and about 9" from the end it tapers out .5". The bottom is the cutting edge that i need to revolve onto a weldment for matching to keep a tight seal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to Illustrator and am trying to create a 3D dish that looks silver on one side and gold on the other. Is there a way I can do this? If I want to add further shapes to the top of this dish is it better to add these before applying the 3D effect? If so is it possible to apply the gradients to only part of the shape?
Alternatively would it be possible to use the gradient mesh in concave shape. The default mesh is convex. Is there an easy way to change this to concave?
I am working in 5.5 and have a 3D revolved globe object with a map art applied. It is currently in A2 art board size and I need to increase to A0. View 5 Replies View RelatedBasically I am trying to map a world map vector (symbol) onto a 3d revolve half circle in Illustrator. The problem I am having is that the quality of the map vector is significantly reduced when mapped on the 3d revolve. Is there any way I can have it keep it's "full" vector quality or is there something else I am missing.

So why the loss in quality and how can I prevent this?
Got a problem trying to wrap a vector illustration of a map around a sphere to create a globe for a logo (as per this tutorial: [URL] ....) except I don't want to make it look 3d with the shading options.
Basically when I do this, the map loses all it's detail almost as if Illustrator simplifies the map. I can't seem to work out at all how to make this while retaining the detail and export it as an eps.
I have a group of 3D objects using the revolve command (object on the left). Now I want to put the object on it's side. i.e. rotate it by 90 degrees exactly as it is but the 3D revolve is distorting it to look like the object on the right. How do I prevent this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to apply 3D Revolve effect using PlayActionEvent. Since effects are not recordable, I added it using "Insert Menu Item..." and saved .aia file, which contained 3 params (itnm, lcnm and cmid). These params were enough to invoke 3D Revolve Options Dialog using SDK, but nothing more. Two questions:
Is it possible to suppress Options dialog? I used kDialogOff, but without effect. I suppose that dialog showed because I haven't specified any additional parameter (like x, y, z rotation, angle, surface, etc), which leads to second questionHow to find out list of params that are necessary for particular effect?
Generally, is it possible at all to apply Effects using PlayActionEvent?
I have created a 3d object to look like a coffee mate carton. I tried to post images on here but I keep getting an error. The art work that I want to put on my object consists of a number of elements which have been saved as a symbol. (image) However whenever I try to map it to my object nothing happens. I have used some of the system symbols and these work fine. I have also made a simple label of text only and this works fine. Is there a problem using more complex symbols in this way?

If not, is any other decisions how to make what I want?
