AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating Sheetmetal IPart Part Grows Slightly Between Each Variance

May 31, 2012

I am using IV 2010.  After creating a sheetmetal ipart my part grows slightly between each variance.

When toggling between the different parts IV says that they need updated.  I have updated them but if I toggle back after updating the other parts IV wants me to update again and it creates a circle of updating.  Does this mean that making a sheet metal i part is a half baked idea?  Right now the way the program is responding to sheet metal iparts it would appear that you either cannot have a flat pattern or you part cannot lengthen or shorten the different variances with keeping the flat pattern.  It would appear that all is well with part with exception of this updating problem. How to eliminate IV from asking to update in between variances while keeping the flat pattern?  Also I am using sheet metal extens add in.

I am using Inventor 2012.  BTW the part is more detailed than I am showing in the attachment.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Create Odd Shaped Hole In Sheetmetal Part

AutoCAD Inventor :: IPart And Creating Holes

Mar 1, 2012

I created an ipart and on some of the parts i need holes in them and the others i do not.  I use the hole feature and made my holes but it shows up on all of the parts. I go into the table and change all the holes for the parts i don't need to a dia of 0. now those parts wont work because of the error of having the hole dia set to zero.

Is there a way i can suppress the holes on the parts i don't what the holes to be in?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating New IPart From IAssembly

Jun 11, 2013

What I am looking for is a command similar to table replace, but that will allow for a new part to be created based on a user input. This will need to be done at the i Assembly level to an i Part that is placed within the assembly.

The end goal is to have input boxes come up, ask the user for the values then create all of the associated parts.

I don't need anything with the input boxes, just the part creation.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Saving Several Instances Within An IPart / Derived Part

Aug 14, 2013

I have several iParts with their respective derived parts in my library. There are not many other Inventor users here that use those parts, but they might benefit from having those individual parts. The iPart may change from time to time, and in order to keep the individual parts current, I am required to activate them one by one, exporting them to STEP, IGES, SAT or IPT files for both people here to use as well as our Pro-E and Solidworks users. Is there a way to automate that process so I can hit a button and have it save all instances to a certain file format?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Part In Assembly - Change To IPart Workflow

Oct 31, 2011

I have a part that occurs nine times in an assembly. These were all the same parts before but now I need to make them table driven iParts in order to add a custom iProperty that changes to make them all different. They are all the same except for this on iProperty field that changes.I can create the iPart no problem. My questions are:

1.) Should I just open the part file and make it an iPart?

2.) Do I need to replace the files in the assembly somehow?

3.) I would assume that I can just edit the file to make it an iPart and then use some kind of "change component" right click to select which one goes where right?

4.) Is there some other workflow I should be using?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Convert Standard IPart To ILogic Based Part

I am trying to convert a standard iPart to an iLogic based part.  The part has some text driven, cells..PatNumber, Description..ect..But when I try to referance those cells the iLogic code either does nothing or errors out.

Basicly i have a bunch of flange rings with have several variables theat need to change as the part number changes, sounds simple right?I have rewritten the code so many times...I have gone from hunt and pecking to typing 300 words a min...well maybe not.

About 75-80% of all our parts are identical in shape but just get smaller or larger depending on what size portable auger it goes on.I have been trying to get the part to changed based on "PartNumber" but it has text in the value.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating Casting Part From Machined Part

Oct 7, 2011

I have a part that is designed to be made from a casting. In my workflow it makes more sense to create the as machined part first and then base the casting on the machined part usually by using save as and then deleting the machined features. I understand that you can easily go the opposite direction by creating the cast and then creating a derived part that you apply the machining features to.

I tried to derive the casting in this way hoping that you could just suppress of delete features without altering the associativity between the two files but it appears that the derived part doesn't "know" about the features on the original, it's just a solid.

It would seem that this workflow would be a no brainer since most of the time the casting depends on the finished part which depends on the design specifications, so am I missing something or is there really no way to do what I want to do without having to go the messy route of having to manually alter two separate parts every time I alter the design?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sheetmetal R15 Flanges - Connecting Corners

I'm using Inventor 2010 and I have a problem with connecting the sheet metal corners to each other when making round radius flanges. How to connect the corners to each other (even though this is probably not possible in reality). Even better would be if the flat pattern of the sheet metal part would also look proper.

Note that the short edges are 90 deg bent and longer edges are 75 and 105 deg bent. This also makes creating "corner fill" parts a bit tricky.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Cannot Export DXF Files From Sheetmetal Parts

Nov 18, 2013

Looking for reasons why I can't export DXF files from Inventor Sheetmetal parts. This has only occurred in the last few days.

Error says "Sketch export failed to initialize translator". This occurs when I run either of my 2 DXF macros AND if I RMB on the part Flat Pattern and Export Face As (or something like that - haven't that in a while). The macros lead me to a debug lin of oDataIO.WriteDataToFile sOut, oDXFfileNAME

I have used these 2 macros for 5+ years and have not experienced this before.

Add-ins shows that the Translator: DXF is Automatic / On Demand.

I found an earlier post here [URL] .... but this seems to be loosely related to Avast. I have Trend (server based). Can't remember any new installations of late apart from Flash.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sheetmetal Contour Roll Flat Pattern

Jan 21, 2013

Inventor 2013-I'm working on a sheet metal cover using contour roll and I find when I dimension the flat pattern that radii that should be the same are not. Can my approach is fundamentally flawed? I  tried making this part out of one 220 degree contour roll and I found when dimensioning that the center points of the arcs are not symmetric as expected. I then used two contour rolls to create the part basing the second contour roll on the first contour roll sketches and I still have the same issues.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating Nest For Part

Mar 4, 2013

I have a part that I get from a customer that is imported into Inventor. The part doesn't' come in as a solid, I can either bring it in as surfaces (thousands for them in fact) or as a composite. What I want to do is create a nest for the part to fit into on the machine I am building. I create a part thats nothing more than a block, bring the part and the block into an assembly and I place the part into the block where I want it to go. What I need is to be able to cut the contour of the part into the block. I use Mastercam for my milling programs and what I ultimately need is just the surfaces (the top surface of the block and the cutout surface).

When I run this, it opens Inventor and creates a new part then gives me the following InvalidCastException was unhandled:

Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to class type 'System.Xml.Linq.XDocument'. Instances of types that represent COM components cannot be cast to types that do not represent COM components; however they can be cast to interfaces as long as the underlying COM component supports QueryInterface calls for the IID of the interface.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating Void Or Hollowing Out A Part?

Aug 5, 2013

I have a complex part that will be created using additive manufacturing. Since this type of machining is adding material needed rather than removing material, I would like the make voids and hollow out the part wherever possible to reduce the manufacturing time, and the weight of the part. Are there any features in Inventor that allow you to click on an internal volume and specify a void that produces certain wall thickness? The closest feature I can think of is the Shell feature but that only works for parts with very simple geometry and it doesn't make a void like I would like. The shell feature cuts out material from the face so it is good for making something like a cup but does not make an internal void.
