I am designing my band's album cover and it features pill capsules. I can create the object with ease, but when I click on "3D Revolve" and then hit "preview" it says "Rendering Artwork" and instantly freezes at halfway. how I want to get this done asap. I have tried the Alt+Ctrl+Shift trick that I have heard of, but that doesn't work either.

I tried to post images on here but I keep getting an error.The art work that I want to put on my object consists of a number of elements which have been saved as a symbol. (image) However whenever I try to map it to my object nothing happens. I have used some of the system symbols and these work fine. I have also made a simple label of text only and this works fine. Is there a problem using more complex symbols in this way?

Since effects are not recordable, I added it using "Insert Menu Item..." and saved .aia file, which contained 3 params (itnm, lcnm and cmid). These params were enough to invoke 3D Revolve Options Dialog using SDK, but nothing more. Two questions:
Is it possible to suppress Options dialog? I used kDialogOff, but without effect. I suppose that dialog showed because I haven't specified any additional parameter (like x, y, z rotation, angle, surface, etc), which leads to second questionHow to find out list of params that are necessary for particular effect?
Generally, is it possible at all to apply Effects using PlayActionEvent?
Here is cylinder made of rectangle using 3d Revolve effect.I want to change perspective of this cylinder like the red lines show, but it goes a bit to the left. I need exactly to the front. I think this is because perspective based on the center of rectangle (in the green circle) not on the center of cylinder. Is it possible to move the center of rectangle? If not, is any other decisions how to make what I want?

Which is very frustrating, because that effect is used alot in this chapter. If it is a computer memory problem, how do I fix that?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIllustrator keeps freezing when applying an effect such as texture-grain to a simple gradient, or even rasterizing a simple black circle. My system is about a 6month old macbook pro with 16gb ram, i7 and AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB. What could be causing this? It wasn't like this when i first started using the laptop but has started to do it everytime i try and do any of those simple tasks recently.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new to Illustrator and am trying to create a 3D dish that looks silver on one side and gold on the other. Is there a way I can do this? If I want to add further shapes to the top of this dish is it better to add these before applying the 3D effect? If so is it possible to apply the gradients to only part of the shape?
Alternatively would it be possible to use the gradient mesh in concave shape. The default mesh is convex. Is there an easy way to change this to concave?
I am working in 5.5 and have a 3D revolved globe object with a map art applied. It is currently in A2 art board size and I need to increase to A0. When I scale the object I get "The combination of artwork size and resolution exceeds the maximum that can be rasterized." I have tried adjusting the rasterize setting and the map art.
View 5 Replies View RelatedBasically I am trying to map a world map vector (symbol) onto a 3d revolve half circle in Illustrator. The problem I am having is that the quality of the map vector is significantly reduced when mapped on the 3d revolve. Is there any way I can have it keep it's "full" vector quality or is there something else I am missing.

Got a problem trying to wrap a vector illustration of a map around a sphere to create a globe for a logo (as per this tutorial: [URL] ....) except I don't want to make it look 3d with the shading options.
Basically when I do this, the map loses all it's detail almost as if Illustrator simplifies the map. I can't seem to work out at all how to make this while retaining the detail and export it as an eps.
I have a group of 3D objects using the revolve command (object on the left). Now I want to put the object on it's side. i.e. rotate it by 90 degrees exactly as it is but the 3D revolve is distorting it to look like the object on the right. How do I prevent this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have added live effects (mainly liquid color, edited many times, don't know if the latter matters) to a bitmap image that additionally is heavily cropped beforehand (inside Designer).
Now every time I change the size or angle of that bitmap, it takes like two minutes to render that change
Is there a way to discard the cropped parts of the image (or something), in order to speed up that re-rendering -- but without losing my many layers (or at least the final stage, but including editability of it) of the liquid color effect?
I'm on an OSX Lion machine (10.7.4) with 7GB of memory.
I have the following shortcuts in Illustrator:
Cmd +Shift + = : To export a file
Cmd +3 : Select the same fill color
Cmd + 4: Select the same stroke color
Cmd + . : Rotate
Cmd + , : Reflect an object
It doesn't matter which shortcut it is what will happen is that Illustrator and my Mac will freeze up not allowing me to force quit the program. This will happen randomly and the only way around it is to restart the mac and restore default preferences via Cmd + Option + Shift when opening the program.
I have tried re-installing the suite and it still happens, so I'm wondering is it the specific shortcuts I am using or is it the computer? I only ask because Illustrator has no issues when everything is defaulted, however when I add the shortcuts this issue will happen.
I have always had multiple files open at a time when using illustrator but all day today the program has been freezing everytime i open more than one document. I am able to use the program now if i only have one file open but it freezes as soon as i open the second file. I have restarted my computer twice and i have closed every other program on my computer. I have a macbook pro and i save all of my illustrator files on an external hard drive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe've just received some artwork from a client in a PDF format, when this artwork is viewed in Adobe Acrobat it shows a star embedded in the artwork,but when the same PDF is opened in Illustrator CS6 this star doesn’t appear...... No warnings are shown to say artwork is missing or has been placed either?
But however when the artwork is exported from Adobe Acrobat in an EPS format, and then this EPS file opened in Illustrator CS6 the star appears.
I'm on a Mac and have Illustrator CS6. Whenever I try to open up Graphic Styles, it freezes.I deleted preferences and even did the disk permissions repair, then restarted. Nothing. I tried to create multiple types of documents too (print, web, etc), but whenever I try to open styles after creating that document, it freezes.
These are the vanilla default graphic styles..It might freeze for other tools, but I'm not sure, haven't gotten that far in the investigation.
For some reason to time I need Illustrator to be perfect and it fails on me ON EXAM WEEK.
I used it yesterday perfect for a good 3-4 hour session. I get on today and I notice that clicking on my groups and paths freezes it for around 5 seconds then works again. Isolation mode also takes a while to go in and then come out and when I minimize it it takes longer to open back up again (10 seconds).
That is also not the only problem
I'm trying to copy the appearance from one group to another by dragging the swatch in the appearance panel. When I apply it to an object that object turns invisble but I can still see the path it just has no fill or stroke
I have a bunch of artwork that I need to fit to artboards that need to be the same size, basically I'm looking for something similar to "Fit to Frame" in Premiere/After Effects.

When I am go to "File > Print" the print screen begins to load and then completely freezes. The default printer is set to "Brother GT-541". This is a digital garment inkjet printer. If I switch the default printer to something else, the print screen will load without issue. If I then change the destination printer in the drop-down menu to "Brother GT-541" it will freeze. Once Illustrator is frozen, I need to force quit in order to get back into Illustrator.
I contacted the company we purchased the Brother GT-541 from - to see if they were aware of any issues. There were none - but they explained that they have no customers who use CS4, most all of them use CS3 or prior. They advised that I update the Brother GT-541 printer driver, which I did - and it turned out to be no luck.
I can get pre-loaded symbols to map to the art-work, but the symbol I created doesn't appear when I try to map it. I'm not sure if the problem is how I created the original artwork/symbol?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a file with a number of artboards on which there are objetcs filled with 100% Magenta and some with 100% Magenta and 0,34% Yellow. I want to get rid of that 0,34% but Illy is refusing to cooperate.
Even selecting just two or three objects and trying to recolor using the Edit/Edit colors/Recolor Artwork dialog has no effect. I can change the color manually though, for one or more selected objects.
I imported a piece of art into Illustrator and I want all parts of it to be equal and symmetrical. What would be the best way to start going about this?

For example, I have designed my business logo at 220 x 220 pixels. When I export it as a jpeg file to upload into my SharePoint team site and resize it, the quality diminishes considerably. Sharepoint recommends uploading a picture that is approximately 60 x 60 pixels. how do I take my 220 x 220 artwork and make it so that when I export it, it is 60 x 60 pixels?

Suppose for example that the color of the artwork is red, then if I have a vector object which is white, then, its color appears to be red, as that of the artwork.Why the above happens.I want to have the artwork a color other that white so that I can draw white objects in it.Here is an image/example where the artwork is orange and the icon is NOT white as I want it and expected to be:
I need to convert a bunch of vector artwork for a brand I made from CMYK to RGB.
But, illustrator won't give me the option to do so.
I upgraded from CS6 to CC, but am still having the same issue. It's all vector right now.
Manually changing each colour will take hours, as there's many files and gradients. So, I'd love to just be able to use Illustrator's build in feature.
But, here's what I get. Convert to RGB is in light grey and I can't select it (click on image to see better):
