AutoCAD Inventor :: Method For Seeing If Column Is Present In BOM View?
Jun 3, 2013I've seen things about getting the information from the parts in the BOM list, but not about seeing what is present in the structure itself

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a program that create a bunch of new custom Iprop in each part of an assembly.
How can I show all those new properties when I open the BOM in the assembly file. Manually I can add a custom column but that is time consuming. Is there a way I can create a macro that will add those custom column in the BOM view?
In Bill of material i have custom PartQty column and is beside QTY column. I need all informations from QTY column to PartQty column to copy. Possible with iLogic? I'm selecting now manualy copy and paste but it would be nice to have automatic.

I am using an up to date version of Win 7.
I am trying to publish to the CC a guide rail. The vendor of the rail gives me the option of entering the desired length of the rail. After that he gives me the option to choose between the length that I entered and a shorter and longer standard length witch can be delivered faster.
I want to do the same thing with my published part, but I cannot make a key parameter to change depending on the entered custom parameter. I want the user to make the next steps when inserting from the CC: 1- select the size of the rail; 2-select the type of the rail; 3- enter the desired length of the rail; 4- choose between the desired length and the 2 recommended lengths (I need these 3 lengths to be shown)
Is this possible?
I've attached an example of a workflow we use to make different instances of products.part1 gets assembled in assembly1 which then gets derived in part2 to receive a bend.We use assembly1 in one place and part2 in another.(this is a simplified example, made with IV2013 SP1.1)
In part1, if you add the thread feature, the "bend part" feature in part2 fails after updating. This also happens if you try to add a "bend part" to part1 AFTER the thread feature, if the bend is present beforehand it does work.
Having the bend before the thread feature in part1 doesn't work with our workflow, because we need the assembly1 to be straight. In short, the thread feature is causing problems with "bend part".
I can't say if this problem was present in previous versions or even in the previous service pack since we don't use this workflow that often, especially with threaded parts, but i hope this can get fixed with a hotfix.

At my company we use part numbers as file names for everything. for example, part number 09090P00100000, will be saved as 09090P00100000.ipt and will have a drawing saved as 09090P00100000.idw.
Within the drawing template file, i want to set up an ilogic rule that will check that the part present in the drawing corresponds to the file name of the drawing. This rule will run after saving and will just display a warning if the file names do not correspond.
I just need some code that will get the file name of the part displayed in the drawing. Note that we use iparts so the code must get the member file name and not the factory file name.
Dim oDrawingDoc As DrawingDocument
oDrawingDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument
Dim oSheet As Sheet
oSheet = oDrawingDoc.ActiveSheet

While looking at the different tolerance methods, I see a couple called MIN and MAX, which just tack these words to the end of the dimension. Is there a way to customize the tolerance methods to add suffixes or prefixes to dimensions, such as TYP or 2 PLCS or something like that, so that I can minimize my detailing time.
View 5 Replies View RelatedBasically a project could contain one idw file, or it could contain 20 idw files or 100 or more.
Our titleblock has about 12 entries of project information that will be consistent on all sheets whether that's one sheet or a 1000 sheets.
Is there a way to link an excel file to each idw? (I'm pretty sure not : ) ) or some way to have a central repositor for those properties so that if something changes, we don't have to go back and change each idw?
I have seen the drawing transfer management wizard, but it seems like overkill to a situation that has to have existed a long time - that being needing customer info on a titleblock. Seems like it'd be the perfect think for linking an excell file or having actual properties in the project file.
I would like to introduce a macro to handle the skeletal method.

I need to get familiar with the Inventor API for my thesis.Currently, I need to extend the face of a part.I started with selecting the face edge by
Dim ActiveDocument As Inventor.Document
Dim spline As Object
Set spline = ThisApplication.CommandManager.Pick(kPartEdgeFilter, "please choose the face edge!")
This is working fine.I know that the next step would be to use the ExtendFeature method of PartFeature, but I do not know exactly how to do this. Do I need to get the face as parent of the edge? How can I invoke the extesion then?

Is there any better method to find the overall size of a part model? I tried Range Box method and that gives some inaccuracy if the model have loft feature and fillet on that. But if I use GetExistingFacets the size gives more accurate. At the same time in a round part model with a cut, the GetExistingFacets give inaccuracy and range box method gives better result. Below is the X, Y, Z sizes of the two models with the above mentioned methods.
Round Part (Part1)
Measured with GetExistingFacets method = 129.934196472168 x 126.422719955444 x 25
Measured with Range Box method = 130 x 126.514225996919 x 25
Rectangular Part (Part2)
Measured with GetExistingFacets method = 300 x 300 x 30.0000286102295
Measured with Range Box method = 300 x 300 x 30.4094903224854

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to have a column in the BOM but i do not want to show it on the drg.
like you can do it for rows for example...
I need to add a custom column to a parts list and have it display as the last column.
oPartsList.PartsListColumns.Add (kCustomProperty)
This code runs, but nothing happens...no error...no column..
Is there a way to customize the BOM columns so that Inventor remembers which columns I need? I know that I can add in the file name column etc. but I use the same columns over and over. I find myself in every assembly adding these columns in.

I have a problem inserting the slanted columns when I use the "Beam/Column joints" commando. When I insert the slanted column, the beams are divided.
It should look like picture 1, but it always ends up as image 2. How can I solve this?
When I try to calculate bending moment stress thru "Beam and column calcultor it shows an error that is Wk and Jk is missing. Ok that is fine. If we put values for both we will get the answer. Because I have come to know thru inv discussion that many material in the CC do not have these values.
Now my question is when we insert a part for example from content centre (CC) and do FEA analysis on this part. It shows some values like deflection, stress etc etc. How is that possible? one side it is not doing in the beam calculatio but other side in FEA it is doing that.
It means we are not going to rely upon these results in the FEA. It is the same CC, same inventor, how should be trust the result in FEA.
how can i access the value in this column using vba?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have written code to allow me to pick the dimensions of a part and update the dimension parameter name from a list of choices presented in a form e.g. length, width, thickness, outer_diameter, wall etc.
The parameters are exported and I can get overall sizes in the BOM with relevant expressions in columns. So far so good.
What I would like to do is have a global SIZE column in the BOM which has expressions that vary based on another custom iproperty (PartType) which defines the part. So for example if the PartType was 'circular plate' the expression in that parts row of the SIZE column would be <outer_diameter>x<Thickness> while if the PartType was 'tube' the expression in the that parts row would be <Outer Diameter>x<Wall>x<Length> etc
If I could do this I would not need different columns to define the sizes of every different type of material we use and also limit the number of parameters the user needs to choose from when picking part dimensions.
However looking at the BOM API I do not see an obvious way to alter the expressions.
I have a BOM that shows up as in units for length items and unitless for qty items. When I change the UOM to use FT units the non-length units get inch ticks. The qty 1 which means I need one shows up as 1" where I do not require a 1 inch part but one each. How do I remove the inch ticks?

I have found that if I use the drop-down to select a new part file, it does not use the default (and only) part template in my templates folder. I know this as there are several settings that do not match. If I click on the icon to open the new part dialog, it displays my templates (part, assy & drw) and creates the new file based on those accordingly.
Any setting that needs to be changed to correct this behavior?
