AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Project Onto A Surface A Divergent Rectangle

Dec 13, 2013

I would like to perspective-project a rectangle along its normal onto a spherical surface to create a 3D sketch or curve.

The rectangle is within the volume of the sphere.
The rectangle is much smaller than the sphere.
The rectangle normal may be orientated with any vector.

So for parallel projection this can be achieved by creating a 3D sketch and the Project to Surface command. But I would like to define a divergent angle so the rectangle tapers out towards the spherical surface interior.

Lofting is difficult or impossible for other factors. the reasons are lengthy to explain here. Is there a surface or solid modelling trick, or add-in, that allows this?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Create A Subgrade Surface For Landfill Project

May 4, 2012

I need to create a subgrade surface for a landfill project.  I have already created profiles and sections on a 200x200 ft grid along a baseline alignment that follows the center of the proposed landfill.  In my profiles and section views I have drafted in my proposed subgrade elevations.

Is there any way to create a surface by selecting critical points along the profiles & sections?  I would prefer not to use a grading group b/c the site is in excess of 200 Acres, and the grading tools tend to crash Civil 3D 2009 on large sites.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Project Object To Surface / Volume Calcs

Jul 30, 2013

see attachment (object viewer capture). The top surface is my OG, the bottom surface is the bottom of excavation for a building. I want to project the perimeter of the building footprint up to the OG surface at a 1:5 slope. I remember in LDD the perimeter of a building, berm, dam, ditch...could be projected to the OG with specific slopes and then you could create a surface with the projected lines and do a volume calc. between the two. What is the procedure to do this in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Curved Surface - How To Increase Volume Of Surface At Certain Points Only

Apr 10, 2013

how I can add more volume to curved object surface? Say for example I have a plastic cup.You can think of this as cylinder object ,which was the shelled out using the shell tool and then had its base sealed.

Now at certain parts, I would like to increase the thickness and then blend it the rest of the surface(may be chamfer its edges) .

At certain parts on curved surface I would like to add an extra mm, I think if the surface was flat I would just sketch the shape, then extrude it by few mm and smooth the edges by doing a chamfer

But how can this be done on surface that is curved? Or multi curved for edges?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Ribs On Curved Surface / Trimming To Complex Surface

Feb 28, 2013

I'm designing a press for a skateboard similar to: Rib Press

I have the board modeled: (see attached)

Now what i want to do is generate those ribs as seen in the picture.

I tried creating a block that intersected with the board and tried to split the rib at the surface, but to no avail. I think the issue has something to do with the curve of the board in two directions, but i can't seem to get it right.

if you are having trouble visualizing what i'm asking about, look at this. I want to be able to figure out the exact shape of those center ribs to print and eventually cut out of wood.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Draft Shape That Begins As Protruded Rectangle

Jan 30, 2012

I am attempting to draft a shape that begins as a protruded rectangle.  The shape then continues as a protruded rectangle that bends and conforms to the shape of cone.  That may have been confusing.  The profile does not change in shape to a cone.  Lets say I want to do a sweep, and use the rectangle as the profile.  I pick a path that was project wrapped to the cone, and the cone as the surface.  I have trouble with the outcome.

I get all kind of open loop errors, and stuff with the paths, oh and also I get an error saying that the the path is not tangient and continuous.  I have spent hours trying to go at it different ways. I tried using rails and I still can't get this sweep to do what I am wanting it to do.  The rectangular profile has to be perpendicular to the cone surface as it follows it for the outcome to be correct.  I have attached the file.
