AutoCAD Inventor :: Broken View Display
Oct 4, 2012
I am experincing an issue with display quality when using broken views in Inventor 2013 drawings.
After adding the break to any view in the drawing, part geometry and draft items in all views disappear/reappear upon zooming in and out on the drawing. The entities are still there (they can be highlited and selected), but they are not displayed.
If the view is deleted, or the break removed from the view, the problem goes away.
This seems to be related to the software because both myself and a co-worker are experiencing the same thing while using competely different hardware configurations.

I have a part that when I adjust its length additional fabs are needed. Now in my idw for this part I want to secure the break lines on the part at a exact distance from the end / each other to display these fabs. Is there a way to parameterize or set the break lines so they adapt to the change in length and move accordingly?

Just got updated from IV 2012 to 2013 with a new Dell (yawn) workstation to boot. OK, I did a section view of a pretty complex assembly and when I tried to take a measurement, the section view just dissapeared and it went back to full view. One of the primary uses of using section views is to view / inspect / measure, that which cannot be seen in the normal full view.
Why did this break in 2013 ? and is there a patch to fix it ?

Design view representations in an iPart file are not included in the generated members after installing Inventor 2014 SP2 (and also in Update 1).
In the attached part factory, the two work planes are included in the members. They would need to be individually set invisible in each assembly view representation because the members only have the Master view representation.

Our company recently made a huge leap forward moving from Inventor 11 to Inventor 2014. We have found an issue with Tweak Trails that we cannot seem to get resolved.
The trails are displaying on "top" of the assembly geometry in both the IPN and the IDW files. For instance if I pull a shaft our of normal position, the trail will display completely over the holding piece, instead of "disappearing" as it goes into the hole. I have a picture below that shows what we are experiencing.
Notice that the trail shown on the shaft is visible on "top" of the shaft, as well as the mating pieces geometry. We were used to seeing the trail "under" the model geometry, and only visible from the end of the shaft into the hole. Is it possible to get this visualization style back?!?

How to change the outline display colour when creating views on an Inventor drawing ? I've placed my base view and gone to create detail view - now I want to be able to change the outline marker colour from the default black.

I cannot find any information anywhere on whether there exists an option to save different defaults to the Place Views>Base Drawing View>Display Options tab? The parts I model always need "tangent edges" shown to look correctly on my drawings, and for 5 years I've had to manually select it every time I do a drawing. It just seems that there has GOT to be a way to get rid of this tedious step? And if there is not, can you plainly include this in the documentation so I can stop looking for such a feature?

I have a client that is having difficulty with Design View Representations. He has approximately 15 view representations, each having items in different states of visibility. The icons display the modes of visibility correctly, however, there are no objects visible in the graphics window at all. Additionally, the option, "Find in Window" is missing when right-clicking on visible objects. Only when he copies the View Representation over to a LOD, and then saves that back out to a VR, do the graphics in the window appear correctly. Then the Option, Find in Window shows up and is available.

Is there a way to have a view in a sheet that displays a few specific components of an master assembly? There is a motor/gear-box assembly within my master assembly that I don't want to make a separate assembly for BOM purposes, but I want a .ipn view with the motor/gear-box "assembly" exploded. I tried making everything else in the master assembly "not visible" for the particular .ipn view, which works fine, but if I add or replace anything in the master assembly, those additions appear in the motor/gear-box .ipn and screw up the view.
I could just make a whole new assembly for the motor/gear-box and use that for the exploded view, but I would rather the view update to reflect slight changes I make in the motor/gear-box "assembly" from within the master assembly.
So can I create a .ipn view and say, "I want these particular components of an assemly to appear in this view but nothing else"?

I just installed a student version of Inventor Pro on my comptuer. I have used this and several other similar software packages before. My problem: when I open a new part file, it takes me to a gray screen. No coordinate axes, view cube, nothing. When I click "Create 2D Sketch," still nothing. Same gray screen. If I draw a line, it doesn't show anything.
I've gone to View -> Object Visibility, and everything seems to be checked off as it should be. I've also clicked User Interface, and it shows the View Cube among other things as being selected.
The software didn't prompt me for an activation key, not sure if that may be relevant to the problem?

I was wondering if after drawing an alignment, creating a profile, and profile view, is there a way I can mark items along the alignment so they could show up in the profile view. I am laying out a pipeline and want to have the profile display a marker for items such as tees, elbows, reducers and other items. The marker I would like to use will be something like the vertical style grade break markers.
Also on a side note, as each of these items will have a different name, is there a way that I can add these markers and then have each one with a unique name?

I have a need to find the solution for a viewport issue. Model space, create view, when selected goes to correct view size. When placing same view in layout on paper space the graphics to be viewed are too small & do not fill the paper space viewport.

One of my users has been complaining that his "right click stops working". I have verified the problem myself, and find it very odd. It seems to be exclusive to his machine, which is a Windows XP 32 bit, I think with 4GB RAM and a decent gaming graphics card running IV 2012.
After he's been working about half of the day he suddenly is unable to right click and bring up his context menu. He then has to save his work and reboot his machine. After this he'll be good again for a few hours.
I asked him if he can bring up his context menu on other applications when IV's stops working. He didn't know but said he would try it the next time he has the problem.
I also asked him if he's using a 3 gig switch.

My company is using inventor 2010. I have 64 bit edition. When I zoom in on a dwg or ipt it zooms for like 1mm then my screen goes gray. If i click the restore down button then restore back to max drawing comes back but as soon as i try to scroll zoom again with my bamboo pen the screen grays out again. I've already updated my video driver to latest version and i've updated my bamboo pen driver to latest version. I also booted windows 7 64 bit into safe mode and check device manager to make sure no broken drivers or anything like that. Some times it will work for a few min then start graying out my screen again.

I changed some feature on a sketch that was working and broke it. When I close the sketch a window shows the problems. A typical message is " Fillet1: Could not build this Fillet". The name "Fillet1" was automatically assigned. by Inventor. The questions is, how do I find Fillet1 in my sketch so I can fix it? I have looked in Parameters and that doesnt tell me.

I have a project of a residential building, made in ADT2011. The building has 17 levels. Levels from 2nd to 17th are identical. They created as an element linked to constructs. The other levels created as constructs.
I also have different view files for elevations, sections and perspectives.
The problem is that I can not control display configuration of objects in view files. The thing that I need is to turn off balconies' glasses in curtain walls of the elevation view files (To see what is behind the glass in 2d elevations). Now to achieve it, I have to turn off glasses in the original element file. But in that case the glass disappears also in plans, sections and perspective views, where I need it.
The question is: Can I control the visibility of the default infills for curtain walls independently for different view files?

Using Conceptual View, I have hanger plates that intersect an arch, and previously where they intersect you couldn't see inside the arch just the surface. Since saving as another drawing to add hangers details something has changed in the display and the arch appears transparent at the moment so you cant see where along the plates the arch intersects.
Unless you zoom right into the intersection, the surfaces appear and zoom out and it goes transparent again.

Produces a file that is a Black Panel, to Every other program than inventor... (Tried 5 so far, some just fail to open)
REALLY basic thing that is failing... is it really a proprietary file they "called" .dwg?
Or is there some setting I have on?

How I have come to this question is through the process of trying to realistically show a hydrant in profile view. First off it it possible to create a completely vertical pipe in C3D? Also if you can, is it possible to show that in profile view? Basically, what I am trying to avoid is representing a fire hydrant pipe by creating some sort of custom cyclinder part in partbuilder. I have done this, but do not like the results.

how to heal a chained centreline between a row of hole features?
Here is my current work practice...
I have a panel with a row of hole features, they are not an array as the pitch between holes typically varies.
I create a chain of centres along the row.
I copy the panel and drawing to make a similar part but I remove one of the holes from the middle of the row.
Now the chain centreline is broken, obviously missing a feature and I cannot find a way to heal the centreline unless I delete and recreate it.
There is also the switcharound too where I add a hole within the row.I typically have to do this for nearly 60 similar panels.
