How to change the outline display colour when creating views on an Inventor drawing ? I've placed my base view and gone to create detail view - now I want to be able to change the outline marker colour from the default black.

Sometimes when I try to create a detail view of an isometric view in my IDW, the "detail full boundary" option is greyed out? Why would this be? If I try an ortho view it works fine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am experincing an issue with display quality when using broken views in Inventor 2013 drawings.
After adding the break to any view in the drawing, part geometry and draft items in all views disappear/reappear upon zooming in and out on the drawing. The entities are still there (they can be highlited and selected), but they are not displayed.
If the view is deleted, or the break removed from the view, the problem goes away.
This seems to be related to the software because both myself and a co-worker are experiencing the same thing while using competely different hardware configurations.
is it possible to create a detail view of an Iso view which is created with perspective camera? I tried it but it does not seem to let you have the option of selecting the connection line or detail view boundary?
View 5 Replies View RelatedOur company recently made a huge leap forward moving from Inventor 11 to Inventor 2014. We have found an issue with Tweak Trails that we cannot seem to get resolved.
The trails are displaying on "top" of the assembly geometry in both the IPN and the IDW files. For instance if I pull a shaft our of normal position, the trail will display completely over the holding piece, instead of "disappearing" as it goes into the hole. I have a picture below that shows what we are experiencing.
Notice that the trail shown on the shaft is visible on "top" of the shaft, as well as the mating pieces geometry. We were used to seeing the trail "under" the model geometry, and only visible from the end of the shaft into the hole. Is it possible to get this visualization style back?!?
I cannot find any information anywhere on whether there exists an option to save different defaults to the Place Views>Base Drawing View>Display Options tab? The parts I model always need "tangent edges" shown to look correctly on my drawings, and for 5 years I've had to manually select it every time I do a drawing. It just seems that there has GOT to be a way to get rid of this tedious step? And if there is not, can you plainly include this in the documentation so I can stop looking for such a feature?

He has approximately 15 view representations, each having items in different states of visibility. The icons display the modes of visibility correctly, however, there are no objects visible in the graphics window at all. Additionally, the option, "Find in Window" is missing when right-clicking on visible objects. Only when he copies the View Representation over to a LOD, and then saves that back out to a VR, do the graphics in the window appear correctly. Then the Option, Find in Window shows up and is available.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to have a view in a sheet that displays a few specific components of an master assembly? There is a motor/gear-box assembly within my master assembly that I don't want to make a separate assembly for BOM purposes, but I want a .ipn view with the motor/gear-box "assembly" exploded. I tried making everything else in the master assembly "not visible" for the particular .ipn view, which works fine, but if I add or replace anything in the master assembly, those additions appear in the motor/gear-box .ipn and screw up the view.
I could just make a whole new assembly for the motor/gear-box and use that for the exploded view, but I would rather the view update to reflect slight changes I make in the motor/gear-box "assembly" from within the master assembly.
So can I create a .ipn view and say, "I want these particular components of an assemly to appear in this view but nothing else"?
I just installed a student version of Inventor Pro on my comptuer. I have used this and several other similar software packages before. My problem: when I open a new part file, it takes me to a gray screen. No coordinate axes, view cube, nothing. When I click "Create 2D Sketch," still nothing. Same gray screen. If I draw a line, it doesn't show anything.
I've gone to View -> Object Visibility, and everything seems to be checked off as it should be. I've also clicked User Interface, and it shows the View Cube among other things as being selected.
The software didn't prompt me for an activation key, not sure if that may be relevant to the problem?
I am trying to create and display multiple Notes on an Inventor Part. I select the face, right click, select create note, and the note gets created perfectly. However the next note I create does not get displayed in the graphics window. It gets added to note in the browser. Is it possible to get all notes created displayed on the model?
I also see that the note automatically adds the Author and the date to the note. Is it possible to edit this information. It says the information is read only.
I was wondering if after drawing an alignment, creating a profile, and profile view, is there a way I can mark items along the alignment so they could show up in the profile view. I am laying out a pipeline and want to have the profile display a marker for items such as tees, elbows, reducers and other items. The marker I would like to use will be something like the vertical style grade break markers.
Also on a side note, as each of these items will have a different name, is there a way that I can add these markers and then have each one with a unique name?
Any way to use iLogic to create custom iProperties from the cells in an Excel spreadsheet (both text and numbers) for a .dwg template. The only thing even close has been a user who already knew how to do it and was having a different problem. I am using Inventor 2012 and Excel 2003 and have very little experience with VB. I currently have a family of assemblies, consisting of two parts linked to an Excel spreadsheet to control the various parameters for each variation of the assembly.
I need creating an iLogic rule that will:
Go to a specific tab (I have four different tabs/worksheets) in an Excel spreadsheet.
Make a specfic row of that worksheet the current row based on the part number used to generate the models of the assembly shown in a .dwg.
Use the contents of a cell in that row (text or numeric or a combination of both) to generate a custom iProperty for the .dwg template.
Use the custom iProperties to fill in the title block of the template.
Is there Any code out there that will allow user to select part file then isolate and create view rep of that part with name of view rep the same as part.
The reason is we have lots of reps that isolate various components and this is very time consuming, I have had a look if there is Any customization because this would be a good user tool,also could work very well on assembly.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a solid body .ipt that I have created an assembly from. Some of the parts in the solid body can rotate which in turn rotates them in the assembly which is great. The problem is I need to create a drawing of the parts of the assembly. If I create a base view of a part that rotates the view rotates also, but I do not want that. Is there a way to create a view that always "looks" at a surface of a part no matter what position it is in?

I'm trying to develop a program where I can use a base view based on the current view of a single part. The idea is basically export the contour of the part to the DXL format and save it to be used on cutting machines.
I've found something similar here, but in the context, it was necessary to use the path of the part to work, and I need it to recognize the part that is already opened.
I've been using CTB files to manage line colors, thicknesses etc - assigning a specific color number to a line color / thickness etc.
This results in great looking plots, but aren't the colors that appear on-screen.
I was wondering how can I make it look exactly like what you'll get but retain the automation/functionality of CTB files - rather than manually stuffing around with changing line weights/colors etc.
CIvil 3D 2013 / My drawing opens in layout view and all model objects are appropriately coloured by layer. If I hit plot at this point, my colour dependent .ctb file works fine. However, once I swtich to model view, all my linework turns white and if I switch back to Layout view it remains white and plots each line with the weight assigned to the colour white.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to create an exploded view of an assembly to show how it's supposed to be put together. "Hey, why not use the slick presentation feature in Inventor? I've already got the model!" It's not working out to be that slick.
Outlined in red, is the "wrong" trail that Inventor put in by default. I added the highlighted trail, which is what I want and reflects how things actually go together. How do I get rid of the one I don't want? Hide turns off both of them. Delete deletes the tweak. All I've found was a workaround where I hide the line in the drawing.
Any way this can happen in a reasonable time frame, say in a release or 2,since view creation takes so long?Or did you development guys sneak that into R9?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm just started using inventor 2013 (from 2010) & the way colours/materials are applied has completely changed so I'm learning again from scratch.
Here's my issue: A customer has sent a casting to me in Parasolid format. When I open it, all the unmachined surface are blue & look a bit garish. However, the colours of the machined faces are ok & I wish to keep them.
So, I want to chage all the surfaces that are blue - I can use the picker & select all the blue faces seperately (by holding CTRL down & select each face one be one) but this is a pain & takes ages (there are over 200 faces)
I can see & edit the blue color in the manager but how do I tell Inventor to replace all - can it be done?
Is it possible to add an exploded view to a presentation file via the api? I can access existing exploded views, but did not see an add method.

i am wanting to use the apprentice server in another program. The apprentice server is 'normally' found in the registry under this key:
ComputerHKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSIDC343ED84-A129-11d3-B799-0060B0F159EF
The problem is, that if you uninstall all things autodesk, and run a registry cleaner (or delete that key by hand), and then install only inventor view 2013 and run inventor view 2013, it will *not* create that key in the registry.
This makes it impossible to run the apprentice thru the COM mechanism, even your SDK samples will not work.
(i suspect (but havent proved), the bigger problem is on a brand new machine, install and run only inventor view 2013 , you still can't use the apprentice server.)
The 'workaround' is to install and run inventor view 2012. running inventor view 2012 will create the registry key. After that, running inventor view 2013 will happily update the key's value to the appropriate place.
(C:Program FilesAutodeskInventor View 2013BinRxApprenticeServer.dll)
so try this :
1) run regedit and delete the key and all its subkeys
ComputerHKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSIDC343ED84-A129-11d3-B799-0060B0F159EF
2) optionally install inventor view 2013 ('as administrator' or not doesnt matter).
2) run inventor view 2013 ('as administrator' or not doesnt matter). exit it

Set ApprenticeServer = New ApprenticeServerComponent

I can get hold of the view but cant find a way to set reference data --- would like to set the "Line Style" to "As Parts" and "Hidden Line Calculation" to "All Bodies".
I've attempted to plot the contents of a ctb file using any one of the 'export to csv' routines floating around the web however what i'd like to include (an never seem to manage) is an actual display of the colour represented by the pen (you will of course realise i am referring to a ctb file rather than stb).
View 9 Replies View RelatedTrying to the base view system in acad 2012. Got inventor model and want to document in acad. New blank layout tab. Select base view and as model space is empty it asks for inventor file as it should. I select my ipt file.
it then says 'invalid autodesk inventor file C:projects......'
the command then closes.
I created brand new part, plain cube, and still the same.
I can't create a split view of a section broken in. I've attached the screenshot.Is there a workaround to do it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI create an IDW view of a subassembly by inserting the parent assembly, make it a non-associative view, then turn off visibility of unwanted subassemblies. When later working in the model and adding a part to one of the non-visable sub-assemblies, that part becomes visable in the IDW views in which the subassembly was non-visable, requiting me to edit all veiws in which the subassembly was non-visible. This can be quite a number of instances. Is there a way to prevent this?
I may have a more fundamental workflow problem: I create assemblies composed of subassemblies that need to be detailed sperately. I have found that in order to correctly create a structured BOM and to have the ballon lables to correspond to the structured BOM, I create the drawing views as described above. If I would just insert the subassembly to detail it, I don't understand how to get it to relate the balloon labels in the subassembly view to my master BOM.
