AutoCAD Architecture :: Display Configuration In View Files
May 18, 2012
I have a project of a residential building, made in ADT2011. The building has 17 levels. Levels from 2nd to 17th are identical. They created as an element linked to constructs. The other levels created as constructs.
I also have different view files for elevations, sections and perspectives.
The problem is that I can not control display configuration of objects in view files. The thing that I need is to turn off balconies' glasses in curtain walls of the elevation view files (To see what is behind the glass in 2d elevations). Now to achieve it, I have to turn off glasses in the original element file. But in that case the glass disappears also in plans, sections and perspective views, where I need it.
The question is: Can I control the visibility of the default infills for curtain walls independently for different view files?
How to set or change the active display configuration with .NET. Currently I am sending this task to the command line. See below:
' This subroutine sets the correct display config with the supplied name Public Sub SetCurrentDisplayConfig(ByVal strDisplayConfig As String)Dim strCommand As String = "" strCommand = "-AECDISPLAYCONFIGSETCURRENT " & strDisplayConfig & vbCr AutoApp. Application. DocumentManager. MdiActiveDocument.SendStringToExecute(strCommand, True, False, False) End Sub
How do I configure dwg to pdf output to version 5, many customers do not have Reader 7 and have no intention of downloading the newer reader. I see no area in the Plot Configuration Editor??
How do I configure my Eizo CE240W (or any other monitor) to display proper length/width ratio on rulers? The horizontal ruler across the top has wider space between inch marks than the vertical ruler on the right.
I'm using 2012 autocad architecture. I would like to know ASAP if there is a safe way to share my autocad drawings with a specific autocad user that completely locks the files so they can not be modified, saved as something else and opened, or otherwise compromised. I have a client that wants copies in autocad of the drawing files. But I don't see a good way to lock them that is fool proof, and am not sure what such a question would be listed under in the help index. Is there a way of saving them that can keep them un-modifiable?
direc3d 9 resets to defaults. annoying, everytime i start max- have to set to my prefferences (anisotroping and texture sizes)
direct3d 10 "display all triangle edges" on/off makes no effect, i still see all triangles, that confuses "use cashed drdx meshes" removes those triangles but they appear entering polygon editing on some files those two checkboxes seems to have no effect at all, i see lots of triangles i dont want or need to see

For example, Stairs have a stringer componet in plan display configuration but does not have a stringer componet in the Low Detail configuration. I need the stringer to show when I go to low detail how can I add a stringer componet in low detail.
I want to save the configuration and state of the Track View in my workspace. So when I start up Max, the Track View opens up in the configuration I had when I last used Max, and/or in my saved workspace.
Even after I save my custom workspace, it doesn't save the track view. I have to manually open up the track view, dock it the way I want, and open up my custom layouts I had saved in the track view. This takes a lot of time.
I was wondering if after drawing an alignment, creating a profile, and profile view, is there a way I can mark items along the alignment so they could show up in the profile view. I am laying out a pipeline and want to have the profile display a marker for items such as tees, elbows, reducers and other items. The marker I would like to use will be something like the vertical style grade break markers.
Also on a side note, as each of these items will have a different name, is there a way that I can add these markers and then have each one with a unique name?
I try to move all of the AutoCAD templates and configuration files to Sharepoint.I added the path to a common ACAD.LSP to the AutoCAD - support paths. The problem is:
AutoCAD does not find the folder.
Only after I open a Share point folder in explorer and restart AutoCAD, it will have access to the ACAD.LSP and everything is fine. It does't matter which Share point Folder/Space I open.
In the process of releasing 2013 to the office. We have about 60 machines being loaded, varying from 64-bit Win 7, 32-bit Win 7 and 32-bit Win XP. I have gone through and created new PC3 files for our two KIP printers (3000 & 7000 series). I added one custom page size to each to create a PMP that goes along with them. These files have been placed onto a network folder for all users to access. This is where my confusion begins.
When other users go to utilize these files it is giving an error stating that "the plotter configuration cannot be found, driver cannot be found, device cannot be found, yada yada. The none has been substituted."
So we began to look at the PC3 files and see what the issues are. When the same file on the Server is copied down to a local machine it changes back to a KIP10 driver down from a KIP11 driver on the network. Make Sense?
In order to fix I began running the "Add-A-Plotter Wizard" on the local machine. Created a new PC3 wiih a different name and went back into the program. Now the PC3's that did not work before WORK.
In short, since the 2013 version has a new file format do we have to run the "Add-A-Plotter Wizard" on all local machines before the standard PC3 file will work effectively? Or does having 2011 version still on the machines have an effect on these files?

I have never gotten this to work, but had put little effort into it until recently. Thus far I have checked my project standards to make sure "match sheet views to view" is checked to "yes".
In both View drawing and the sheet- VISRETAIN is set to 1.
the VPLAYEROVERRIDESMODE is set to 1
I am working on drawings that are in my current project through project navigator. I am using ACA 2010 and not sure what else I need to do. I turn off all the unwanted layers in the view drawing, then create a sheet and xref in the view to model space- all the layers reset, and I again have to turn off all the unwanted layers. If I change a layer color in the view drawing, it does not change in the sheet drawing upon save and refresh.
I hate wasting time repeating the same task over and over....
i draw up all of my walls, i connect them properly, cleanup etc. then i want to trim them with my roof slabs and what i see? i see my walls suddenly dissappear in 3d view but are still correctly shown on plan view? i know it has something to do with roofline because when i tried to project them automatically to ontu my roof slabs the walls dissappeared too!
Using PN, I set up 2 levels. Level 1 at 0'-0", Level 2 at 10'-0". I create a Level 1 construct and create my AEC model. I then create my Level 2 construct and xref my Level 1 construct in to use as an underlay. However, using OOTB Medium display configuration I cannot see the Level 1 xref because the Level 2 cut plane is at 3'-6" and the Level 1 construct is 10'-0" below this cut plane. Is this the intended result?
To allow me to see my Level 1 xref in my Level 2 construct, I am required to override the global cut plane in my Level 1 construct and set my wall cut planes, for *each* wall style, to 3'-6". After saving the Level 1 construct, I reload in the Level 2 construct, and the walls appear, as an underlay, in the Level 2 construct as desired.
Is this the only way to see one xref above or below the other? Isnt one of the major advantages of using xrefs is as underlays for stacking levels?I dont have to override the global cut plane in all my wall styles.
In the attached image, the left is my 1st floor RCP, which looks the way I want. The right is my 2nd floor RCP, in which I cannot get the door jambs (orange lines) to turn off. Cut Planes are set identically in the two dwgs. I thought the Display Configuration settings were identical in the 2 dwgs, but clearly they're not.
I am delving into the world of Display Themes in autocad architecture for the first time. What I am trying to do is apply a display them to a viewport that colour all spaces according to the zone to which they are attached.
I have made a generic space which I have used for all rooms. I have attached those spaces to various zones (i.e. Accounting and Finance, Engineering, Facilities etc.)
I am now trying to create a display theme that will color each zone accordingly. I am trying to do this by setting each theme rule to be;
propertyset definition = zone, property = name, condition = equal to, value = Accounting and Finance (etc.), operator = and.
I do this and nothing happens to the spaces. I have tried experimenting with other property sets attached to the spaces and different properties (ie space base area etc) and it works fine. So i'm pretty sure its just a case of finding the correct zone property to work with.
I have no clue what I messed with but when I draw a line or any object, no matter what layer I have it set on, it will display as yellow instead of "by layer".
using lenovo w520 with a 2 gig quadro 1000m win7 pro, a drawing file for a small cottage started to show hiding artifacts in most planes similar to when two items are drawn in the same place. ie, small triangles along the edges, and blotches of colour throughout the planes. however, only one entity was in each place.
I tried auditing the drawing, purging, rebooting, but nothing would fix this artifact issue. xreffed drawings in this file would have the problem inside the file (ie as an xref), but the original drawings did not. if I switched to parallel view, the problem went away.
as a fix, I copied everything to a new drawing, renamed the old one to a dead file, and renamed the new drawing to the original. this new file does not have the problem! is there some better, easier, faster, method to avoid this issue? and/or, did the drawing somehow get a setting that is not readily apparent and that could be easily reset? as a background issue, ACA died the last time I was in it, when I went out to Sketchup 8 and imported a dwg file. ACA died after about 5 minutes of sitting on its own. so, the file could maybe possibly have been silently corrupted by ACA when it croaked.
I've created a Live Section Cut. I want to change the hatching in the wall sections. I looked at the Display Property of the Wall Style, but the Model Display is bold, not the Section Display. The Section display has options for Hatching, etc., but the Model Display does not...Do I need to edit the Material assigned to that wall?
Got a problem with tool palettes ever since ACA 2012. When ever I start ACA, I have to push cntrl+3 to show the tool palettes. It's starting to get anoying that I have to do this, and I can't find any setting that will let the tool palettes display on startup.
i got one problem with properties palette. that is when i select line in the drawing, it display no selection in the properties palette. but display other objects except lines.
I have recently started using FIELDS in our drawings. I must say, they are very powerful.
This is what I would like to accomplish but have not been able to do it on my own.
I want to be able to add text/description to a block, then invoke that text/description with a leader. For instance, if I have a block of a 6x6 post w/ a square, I want to be able to insert the block, do a leader and invoke the custom description "P.T. 6x6 POST W/ CONC. FOOTING"
I have a file with several Space Styles. As I progress on the drawings I would like to modify some of the display properties, primarily color of the fill. I would think I could set the overall appearance of each Space Style in one location and then adjust elements of various display representations. In my case have a red hatch for a space style but in one display rep it would be solid and in another it would be a diagonal hatch.
As I see it, if I wish to modify the color I have to go into each display rep and adjust the color of the base hatch and click on the Style Override check box. It seems like duplicative work. Is there another method of setting the color of each Space Style so that it shows the same in all display reps?
Is there any to get the single line display into the medium or medium low rep by object? I see the only place to get it is to use the High Detail rep by object. Normally in a high detail would you not want a double line for doors? and use a single line for concept in the medium low? I would like to see the ability to have the single door in all display reps by object
The best way to have normal AutoCAD objects (lines, plines, arcs) adhere to the Display Configurations.
My original idea was to contain all of the 'vanilla linework' in one Multi-View Block per Construct, thereby enabling me to set the Display Properties for that MVB and have the linework show/hide depending on my Display Config. I end up having to 'edit block in-place' if I want to change anything, which seems to work but there has got to be a better way.
My only other idea was to somehow link Layer Filters (which I'm unfamiliar with, and probably using the wrong term) to the Display Configs so that depending on the current Config, certain layers would be frozen/thawed. This seems like the way to do it, but it is not obvious to me how I might be able to achieve this through the Display Manager.
I want to change the color of a material definition in 2d wireframe (plan view). For example, for walls, when the mat. def. is checked in the wall display props, the hatching shows orange->color 30.
When I look at one of the materials listed for said wall, in style manager, for that display component, there are diplay components similar to an object format, but in the mat. def. the components control the color (see attached example).
Now is there a "master setting" to change them - I want to change say the plan linework or section hatch to a different color to match our layer color standards or do I have to go into every since display rep. for every single mat. definition and change them or is there a way I can do it once & all will change?
The out of the box objects are great but what I am worried about is that those colors that are given don't work well with our office standard, esp. if we go back to old projects.
New to AutoCAD. Designing a building in plan. Then used the plan to draw a section in new layer, but still in plan view. Is there a way to copy that section onto a new layer in front view and erase the old section layer? .
