I made an animation of a small prototype engine I am designing (attached as video 3) and I would like to be able to show fluid flowing in from the injector and into the cylinder, through the dumbbell valve and out the bottom, autodesk inventor does not seem to have this capability and its looking like my only option is to learn 3ds max and rebuild my animation in that.

I know how to drive constraint, is there a drive sweep I could do?
complex assembly in Inventor 2013 with a number of drive constraints set up, which I can drive in the assembly but not in inventor studio... there don't appear to be any conflicting constraints in the assembly

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have attached a zip file of the engine assembly and its components, I couldn't attach one component because it's too big so I hope everything will still work without it, I'm hoping to show gas flow starting at the injector, into the cylinder, through the dumbell valve on the piston and out the bottom of the cylinder, if there is any way to do it in autodesk I'm willing to try as I just don't have a good enough grasp of 3dsMax yet.

(see attached image) although I do have it installed. I've put the hotfix on for excel, with no effect. I've repaired inventor and repaired excel no fix though.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIt makes no sense you cannot enter the star value when animating a constraint. Every time I run the animation, Inventor changes the inital value, and the animation is ruined.
I need a angular displacement between 80 and 20 deg.I cannot enter the "80" value, Invenotor does it.
Is there a way you can animate a constraint the way you want instead the way inventor wants???
I am working on a simple animation. A camera pans and turns from isometric view to a left side view of a mechanical device, which runs all ok and at a fairly reasonable speed. Now the next thing I animated, was an angle constraint. The animation moves a lever which in turn moves some gears, and then each frame takes about half a second to elapse (an very long interval when talking about video). The strange thing is that out of Inventor studio I can supress the angle constraint and move the lever (and thus the gears too) very fluidly.
View 2 Replies View Relatedwe have simple assemblies with bolted weldments and few misc. parts. most assemblies are 3-20 parts a typical project would have:
-a few laser cut parts, some plastic and hardware. these items need to have part drawings sent to a vendor.
-some in house cretaed parts that need a drawing
-assembly drawing for our shop
i think i am seeing that by having one single IDW its getting hard to send all the drawings to the people that need them. an example would be if a vendor calls about one part, i may send him a 4 page PDF and tell him to look on sheet 2.the other issue that i have is that my standard work flow is:
-design a product
-hand of to another dept for them to enter SKU numbers for parts and assemblies.
so my file names never match what the final product name is. i have been using fields in the iPROP, but it would be nice to revise file names when SKUs are created. im guessing vault would be the tool for something like that?

Then for parts that need material left for machining I create a new part and using the derive tool I place my base part which I then apply extrusions to fill the holes and use thicken to add material to the surfaces that need machining.

I can draw circles and rectangles fine (smooth, no lag) but straight lines are a nightmare. This also follows true with the "first line" of an elipse which is very jumpy.
Note: Brand new 3 day old HP 6550b ProBook, running windows 7.
What is a good 3rd party application that can produce good fountain simulations? There are a variety of conditions, not just the kind that shoot straight up, but that flow in sheets and synchronize etc.
I have the need for right away and little time to deal with much of a learning curve. I've looked at Real Flow but too expensive, with a complex price scale.
I downloaded the trial version and have been messing with it for a couple of days..I really wanted to like it but I'm not jazzed in the least. Sure it works as does knockout and the extraction tool, but you seem to need to spend more time cleaning it up..why bother with a $300+ program if it doesn't seem to simplify the operation?
I'd rather do it one time with the Quick Mask and know its going to be smooth...and as for flyaway hair...extract seems to work as well as any. Has anybody have an real success with this program?

I got it in the plugin folder and one is installed from their website.
I'm using Maya 2012 with thirty fluid containers and the scene takes over 45 minutes to load.
What is taking so long to open the file? How can I reduce the time it takes to open the scene without removing the fluid containers?
The Fluid mask installer doesn't recognize Photoshop 6. I selected other and tried to put the “Vertus Fluid Mask 3” folder that contains the files dbghelper.dll & FluidMask3.8bf into the Photoshop 6’s plugins directory. It’s not available within Photoshop.
It does however function as a freestanding program so I know it works on the computer. It also worked very well under CS5.I’m sure Vertus will get around to upgrading, but I’d like to be able to use it with my current projects and not have to wait for them.
UPDATE: The above procedure works for the 32 Bit install of CS6... Not with the 64Bit.... would like it to work with 64bit since I edit some sizable files

Nothing on the map really would move, but sections would start one color, then highlight and change to a different color. I'm assuming the ideal deliverable would be a HD quality movie file that they could slide the time marker back and forth to see different levels of progress.
Imagine you're trying to show a highway repaving project that will take a number of years to complete. You start with the whole highway where nothing's been repaved. Then, the first year's repaving highlights and then changes color to show that it's been repaved. It remains the new color. Then, the next year's repaving highlights and then changes to the repaved color. This continues until the whole highway is shown as repaved.
I can't imagine Map3D not being able to do this, I just want to search out the best way before we get started. Worst case, we save out a whole bunch of map images and assemble them in some other software. But it seems like Map3D ought to be able to do it.
I have a client that wants to put in a constant flow into an inlet and have SSA calculate the HGL downstream of that (as well as add additional flows at additional inlets). Is there a way to do this? I tried adding an "Initial flow" to a pipe but after running the analysis, that flow wasn't the peak of the pipe (I used 1cfs for the initial flow and the peak was 0.77 cfs).

I have one section that has a known flow of 1.31 cfs. The results for this pipe section shows 28.82 cfs (peak flow during analysis) and 6.06 cfs (design flow capacity). The pipe section is a 15" with constructed slope of 0.0088 ft/ft. The max velocity attained is 23.48 ft/sec. I know that the downstream is undersized. Could this flow rate be caused by the downstream backflows? The model is setup as hydrodynamic and rational method. My inertial terms are set at ignore, time step = 0, junction surface area = 0 and variable time step with safety factor 75%. I have gutter bypass flows and my sag structures have ponded area set at 100.
