We have a waterjet and machine shop at my place of employment, and currently my work flow is to draw the parts. Then for parts that need material left for machining I create a new part and using the derive tool I place my base part which I then apply extrusions to fill the holes and use thicken to add material to the surfaces that need machining.
View 4 Replieswe have simple assemblies with bolted weldments and few misc. parts. most assemblies are 3-20 parts a typical project would have:
-a few laser cut parts, some plastic and hardware. these items need to have part drawings sent to a vendor.
-some in house cretaed parts that need a drawing
-assembly drawing for our shop
i think i am seeing that by having one single IDW its getting hard to send all the drawings to the people that need them. an example would be if a vendor calls about one part, i may send him a 4 page PDF and tell him to look on sheet 2.the other issue that i have is that my standard work flow is:
-design a product
-hand of to another dept for them to enter SKU numbers for parts and assemblies.
so my file names never match what the final product name is. i have been using fields in the iPROP, but it would be nice to revise file names when SKUs are created. im guessing vault would be the tool for something like that?
How to create a revolve surface in an assembly for the purpose of measuring a flow area through a specific area? See the attached JPG, I basically have a conical internal diameter with a pin protruding into it..... I need to measure the flow area as shown in the sketch attached here. the way I have this shown in the attached JPG is the way that we had previously performed this in Pro-e.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am working on creating a book layout for print. I opened the .doc file through my Mac text editor and placed in InDesign CC as a text flow. I am working on adding design elements now (after I adjusted the page layout of the text on all the pages) and blank pages keep inserting themselves in weird places (for instance page 7 will suddenly turn into a blank page and my text will move itself down while design elements such as chapter headings will stay in the place where I put them, but then be completely out of place according to where the text is now). I have tried to adjust it every way I can think of--- by moving all of the text up onto the new blank page and re-aligning the chapter headings, by moving the blank pages to the end of the book and deleting them, and of course, by just simply deleting them. (Deleting them just causes the layout to become mis-aligned even worse, and just re-adds the blank page I attempted to delete.)

I figured out a work around if the surface is flat, but I haven't figured out a work around for a curved surface.
How do I create work axis where work plane intersects curved surface?
Or put another way: How do I project intersection of work plane and curved surface onto the work plane in a 2D sketch?
I need to be able to draw a 2D sketch on the work plane, but get a perfectly matching projected line onto the work plane, from the curved surface, at the intersection of the curved surface and the work plane.
The attached jpg shows the intersection in question. I circled it.
I'm using Inventor 2013 and I'm trying to create a new dimension style that shows a box or parenthesis rather than a dimension. The purpose is so the workers in the field can measure a part and fill in the dimension.
So far the best I can do is make a dimension style that is white so that it comes out as a space. The other option was to manually override the dimension, but I don't want to go into every drawing and change every dimension.
What I would truly like is if the dimension would automatically come out looking like this [ ]
I have a huge subdivision that we are about to do in civil 3d. The subdivision has over 1800 lots. I am wondering what is the best way to go about this. At the moment we are thinking we have to do the alignments, profiles and corridors all in one design drawing for it all to be dynamic? If so this file is going to be huge. Is there a way we can split it up and still keep everything dynamic?

I am working in inventor 2013. It's been a while since I learned inventor and have not worked with it in a few years. I'm not even sure if the capabilities exist.
1. I want to be able to create a new "material" from a picture. Specifically from a piece of fabric that I have that has patterns on it. I'm not sure if I should turn the picture into a material or if is should use shrinkwrap or if there is something that I don't know about that would be a better option.
2. Is there any way to make opposite sides of a piece different colors? Example, if I build a wall, can I make one vertical face black and the opposite vertical face silver?
3. Is there a way to do a "flythrough" or "walkthrough?" I've heard of programs that let you create a path through your model and then have the camera follow the path. Does inventor have a similar capability?
4. Back to materials; what is the best way to change the appearance of multiple surfaces in a model? Is the bill of material the best place to do this? I was hoping that there would be a way to do one thing and have it change multiple pieces of the model. I know that with dimensions you can say that one dimension is always equal to another, but is there a similar function with appearance so that I could change the appearance of one piece instead of having to edit every single piece.
I knew how to do this in inventor 2011 but now that i installed inventor 2013 I forgot. How to create a new material and save it for future use in inventor 2013?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have copied the "Diamond Plate" from the Inventor Apperance Library to my document. Now I want to edit the texture that this style is using.
1. Where is the texture map that this style using located? When I edit the style, I can't tell what is telling it the filename. I have mundged every file on my hd that it could possible be (hoping it would cause an error), but that didnt work either. Another thing I tried was in the QAT "Duplicate as Generic", but that did not show me the texture file either.
2. Is there a way to change the angle of the texture?
I know the material-appearance feature is appalling and badly implemented, but I can not wait until SP1, so any simple method of adding new colors to Inventor. I have looked through the wiki help and there is no simple explanation.
In our company the way we generally work with Inventor is to assign certain colors to parts and sub-assemblies, thus making it easier to build the final assembly. In previous versions of Inventor this was easily done. In 2013 some of the bold (primary) colors are missing and almost all of the various shades of these colors are also missing.
Migrating files across to 2013 has also caused problems with the color appearance not updating correctly. I won't go into the details but the problems and niggles aren't consistent, and there doesn't seem a way to clean/refresh the document library.
What I want is about a dozen bold colors (with a matte finish so when editing the part you do not have to overcome the optical illusion of starring into a morphed mirrored image of a carpark).
Im trying to create a list of text strings to select from defining material thickness and then plug that selection into a global form custom iproperty called "MaterialDescription".. Also, is it possible to access and pre-enter field text edit items in iLogic?

I am slowly learning some of the photo editing features but would like imput on the best workflow for "fixing" digital photos. I am aware that all digital photos need some sharpening and some noise removal. My question is this -- should the sharpening and noise removal be after other adjustments (brightness, clarify etc.) or should those come first? I should mention that I have been shooting all pictures in RAW.

I can get the outline of my arrow head to save as a shape, but have not figured out how to save the hatching to show up in a linetype. I need the arrow head to be shaded in solid. View 5 Replies View Relatedwe have just upgraded from Inv 2011 to 2013. I am trying to create the drawing templates in 2013 by using the blank 2013 template and then copying our border from 2011 onto it. This works a treat apart from 1 thing.
The i properties do not get copied over as well so the sheet is blank from drawing number, title and the custom properties etc.
