I got lost with all the new menus in there.
I have a user that has created a new material which is now sitting as a local style. We require this new material in the library so that everyone can use it. I tried RMB on it but the save to library functon is greyed out. This is due to the styles being read only in the project file. So I have tried to change the project file so we can add the style and then I'd change it back again, but, even though I have checked out the project file from vault, it won't allow me to edit it. What else can be locking the project file? Is there some other way I can place the new material into the style library in the project file? There are quite a few of us that use the project file since we use vault, so I'm not sure I should create a new one with the same name and save over it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working in inventor 2013. It's been a while since I learned inventor and have not worked with it in a few years. I'm not even sure if the capabilities exist.
1. I want to be able to create a new "material" from a picture. Specifically from a piece of fabric that I have that has patterns on it. I'm not sure if I should turn the picture into a material or if is should use shrinkwrap or if there is something that I don't know about that would be a better option.
2. Is there any way to make opposite sides of a piece different colors? Example, if I build a wall, can I make one vertical face black and the opposite vertical face silver?
3. Is there a way to do a "flythrough" or "walkthrough?" I've heard of programs that let you create a path through your model and then have the camera follow the path. Does inventor have a similar capability?
4. Back to materials; what is the best way to change the appearance of multiple surfaces in a model? Is the bill of material the best place to do this? I was hoping that there would be a way to do one thing and have it change multiple pieces of the model. I know that with dimensions you can say that one dimension is always equal to another, but is there a similar function with appearance so that I could change the appearance of one piece instead of having to edit every single piece.
Why Inventor rename some colors/material when migrating style library from 2012 to 2013? It's very annoying (and stupid in my opinion).
And Inventor said me "Some color/materail was renamed". Yeah good information but can you said me which color was renamed?!?
Does the developpers think about Vault when changing those color? What is the impact on the file (edited out of turn by example...).
Our customers have many colors who become differents when migrating to 2013 and it's not acceptable.
I've made my own material library containing a short list of materials from the Inventor default library. And I have set my Project ipj to use it as the default library. All works OK. But, every time I make a new project ipj I have to go find my custom library adsklib file to add it to the project. Is there a certain folder the adsklib file need to live in so that new projects will pick it up automatically?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have copied the "Diamond Plate" from the Inventor Apperance Library to my document. Now I want to edit the texture that this style is using.
1. Where is the texture map that this style using located? When I edit the style, I can't tell what is telling it the filename. I have mundged every file on my hd that it could possible be (hoping it would cause an error), but that didnt work either. Another thing I tried was in the QAT "Duplicate as Generic", but that did not show me the texture file either.
2. Is there a way to change the angle of the texture?
I know the material-appearance feature is appalling and badly implemented, but I can not wait until SP1, so any simple method of adding new colors to Inventor. I have looked through the wiki help and there is no simple explanation.
In our company the way we generally work with Inventor is to assign certain colors to parts and sub-assemblies, thus making it easier to build the final assembly. In previous versions of Inventor this was easily done. In 2013 some of the bold (primary) colors are missing and almost all of the various shades of these colors are also missing.
Migrating files across to 2013 has also caused problems with the color appearance not updating correctly. I won't go into the details but the problems and niggles aren't consistent, and there doesn't seem a way to clean/refresh the document library.
What I want is about a dozen bold colors (with a matte finish so when editing the part you do not have to overcome the optical illusion of starring into a morphed mirrored image of a carpark).

The only way i see is to "save styles to style library", but with this feature only the NEW created materials get saved in the library. But how to delete or modifiy materials that are already in the library?
All the assemblies that I created in 2012 are showing with lighter color steel that I don't like. Is there any way other that selecting each member to change the display color to a darker steel color? I want to change the display quality to show the member edges as straight lines and not dull zig zag looking edges. How would I do that?

I have a lot of project files to migrate from INVENTOR 2012 to 2013. So I created an VB.NET application to get and check out all project files from my VAULT, change the different paths and check in the files in the vault. However, I need to include the new material library in each project files.
I found that we could change almost everything, but not include material library.
We have a waterjet and machine shop at my place of employment, and currently my work flow is to draw the parts. Then for parts that need material left for machining I create a new part and using the derive tool I place my base part which I then apply extrusions to fill the holes and use thicken to add material to the surfaces that need machining.

All parts using certain material will follow the changes made to properties and written to single library. It is clear and predictable.
In Inventor 2013 material properties belong to individual file.
When changes were done to appearance properties of a single part there could be situation when the same material parts in the assembly could have different appearance.
Here is the fact I do not understand and it is contradict to actual reality since the same material with the same standard must look absolutelly the same when switched to Master view.
Seems like to make parts look the same or to change the appearance I should click on each single file and make the same changes to each file.
I do not intend to change the appereance properties in single file on purpose to make problems to myself but I am sure I will take somebody else part and it will be changed due unnecessary reflection or other too much realistic things added in 2013. So finally I will get some sort of parrot collored assembly without clear and most importand easy way to make an order.
So I wish I could equalize all same material parts in apearance view. I do not count the way of clicking each file.

As you can see the font has no name so I can't install any missing font.
I found out that this error occurs only in drawings created from the company template wich I believe was created years ago. If I use any other template from inventor everithing is ok.
Can you save files for 2012 in 2013? I have the ability to upgrade to 2013 while others at my company are not able to, since they were not put on the subscription service. If I upgrade will they still be able to open my files or can I back save to a previous version? I know I can save it as different file type, like .iges or .step, then use feature recognition. But I need them to have full editability to sketches and features.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have re-installed APDS Ultimate 2013 onto a new computer and am having some issues setting up my styles and etc...for the most part I have been working on it as I go with no issues...but I can't remember how I set up my export to dxf settings before. I think I just used the default settings, I exported to dxf from the idw environment by saving copy as and selecting dxf from drop down menu and selecting something like AutoCAD 2004. This has worked before and still does now, but the problem is the dxf's that are exported are huge. The drawing is of a single tiny part with basic geometry. The picture below shows the size difference between the files.
how I can make it a normal size, I don't really care about the size of the dxf except for the fact that I can't email it because we have a limit of 10MB.

When the zgl files were viewed with "Imagination View" program, some files looked good, while some others do not show any geometry (just white background). My issue however is a Client has given me sone .stp's and Iges files to work with.They open fine as a .iam The issue is saving. I have the project folder setup, go to save.
I Get the "do you want to save changes to "XXXXXXXX.iam" and all its dependants.I select "yes to all".I get the "Yes" under the "Save" Column for all listed .ipt's...I hit OK.......Autodesk attempts to save.
...Then I get the dialogue box up with ! icons "The system cannot find the path specified" - The database in C:Users.........xxxx.ipt could not be saved
