View 1 RepliesAn interesting problem for all you inventor users.I have a design where a tube/pipe requires a series of holes at a specific dia and triangular pitch is required to be modeled.
If one can imagine a flat piece of sheet steel ie standard perforated sheet which is then rolled to form a pipe/tube to a specific dia then this is what is required.
Is it possible to model this in inventor say as a flat sheet with given thickness and a specific no of holes at a given pitch, this then to be rolled, obviously the development of the sheet to be correct for the pipe od.ie 3.142 x dia.
Is there a function in inventor to enable this, the alternative being a very long winded method of modeling the pipe and then adding holes.
I created a template file for the sheet material with the specified type of material, sheet thickness and the radius of bending. Placed in the Templates folder. Call the template from the menu, HED, and all settings are reset to Default? How to make a new file so that all settings are saved?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Inventor 2013. For some reason the material in a sheet metal part is not linked to the Sheet Metal Rule.
In the attachment you see on the left side that the material TRPL5-7 (that's a material I created) is linked to the Sheet Metal Rule TRAANPLAAT_5_7. But if I select TRAANPLAAT_5_7 as Sheet Metal Rule in Sheet Metal Defaults (see right picture in attachment) the Material doesn't change to TRPL5-7.
I'm trying to associate a material with a sheet metal rule, however, in the Styles Editor, it won't let me save a material to any sheet metal rule other than Default. If I set a material, then switch to a different rule, then switch back, it sets the material to blank.

How could this be done to avoid the problem? Or can it? 2010 Suite-SP4 64bit
I am building up a library of parts and have been assigning HDPE to my parts through iproperties, I came to my next part and clicked through the list of materials and HDPE has vanished from the available materials, how to get it back as it is now not available? I am using Inventor Professional 2013.

I open my assembly and get this prompt."The material referenced in the sheet metal rule could not be located....."
There are several sheet metal parts in this assembly, so I am not really sure which part it is talking about. Would be good if it listed the part number so I could correct it. So I am off to find the one that is causing the trouble. I close my iam and open the first sheet metal part, no dialog box, so I assume its not this one. Close it, and open the next one. No dialog box, so I open the next one..... I continue this until I have opened all the sheet metal parts in this assembly and NONE show me the dialog again.... huh!! That was yesterday.
I come in this morning, start Inventor and open one of the sheet metal parts from yesterday and immediately get the dialog again. The problem is that this dialog will only appear ONCE per Inventor session.
Once I nailed down the offending part, I then tried to find the offending material. I dont really know what this dialog is telling me cause the materials for the rules are stored locally in the part. Why is it even trying to reference a material in the library?

I want to change the material of a sheet metal part using inventor api.I tried something like code
Dim partDoc As PartDocument partDoc = inventorApp.Documents.Open(FilePath & filename, False) If partDoc.SubType = "{9C464203-9BAE-11D3-8BAD-0060B0CE6BB4}" Then Dim smDef As SheetMetalComponentDefinition smDef = partDoc.ComponentDefinition Dim style As SheetMetalStyle style = smDef.SheetMetalStyles.Item("sheetMetalRule")
But I can't get the code for material change.
Any command to fill in a little gap of missing material when you extrude one surface at the angle to the other. It's easy when it's a flat surface to just extrude in the othe direction, but with 3D loft it's not as much fun. See pic attached.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe use different types of sheet metals, from stainless to bronze, and different thicknesses.
Currently, in order to show the correct material on a parts list, I have to duplicate the material Stainless Steel, and rename it to say 20 Gauge Stainless Steel. Then again for 16 Ga, 14Ga, 12 Ga, etc...
I'd like to have the parts list show the common material such as "Stainless Steel", with another column for the sheet metal style such as "20 Gauge."
We also use items such as Plastic Laminate. I'd like to create a generic material for the physical properties of "Plastic Laminate", and then change the material appearance to say "Formica #1234 Walnut". Again, i'd like to be able to put this in (2) columns on the parts list.
Inventor 2013. Need back the old materials library - most of us have no use for the 3DS Max materials workflow - if I want a custom material for rendering, I will do it in Max/Photosop The new materials/appearnces are way too complicated and confusing.
I have a material that applies an alpha mask to simulate holes for a perforated metal pattern. When I migrated my styles and updated to new appearances, for some reason the image was resized or the mapping was changed, or something. Now my perforated metal holes are 1" in diamter instead of .074. How do I adjust the png file to accomplish this, and how do I publish this new image so it is used instead of the old one?
How do we change sheet metal parts material, thickness Bend Radii from an assembly in groups.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhy Inventor rename some colors/material when migrating style library from 2012 to 2013? It's very annoying (and stupid in my opinion).
And Inventor said me "Some color/materail was renamed". Yeah good information but can you said me which color was renamed?!?
Does the developpers think about Vault when changing those color? What is the impact on the file (edited out of turn by example...).
Our customers have many colors who become differents when migrating to 2013 and it's not acceptable.
How can I create a new material in Inv2013.
I got lost with all the new menus in there.
Where can I find sheet metal.ipt template for Inventor LT 2012 ?
I seem to be failing to get "off the ground" here ... The "Sheet Metal" tab at top will not appear. Also, the "sheet metal.ipt" template is not in my files. Should I do a complete deinstall/reinstall? This is my first (or should I say, zeroth?) attempt at sheet metal, so I seem to be crawling on all 4's.
I knew how to do this in inventor 2011 but now that i installed inventor 2013 I forgot. How to create a new material and save it for future use in inventor 2013?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've made my own material library containing a short list of materials from the Inventor default library. And I have set my Project ipj to use it as the default library. All works OK. But, every time I make a new project ipj I have to go find my custom library adsklib file to add it to the project. Is there a certain folder the adsklib file need to live in so that new projects will pick it up automatically?

The only way i see is to "save styles to style library", but with this feature only the NEW created materials get saved in the library. But how to delete or modifiy materials that are already in the library?
All the assemblies that I created in 2012 are showing with lighter color steel that I don't like. Is there any way other that selecting each member to change the display color to a darker steel color? I want to change the display quality to show the member edges as straight lines and not dull zig zag looking edges. How would I do that?

I have a lot of project files to migrate from INVENTOR 2012 to 2013. So I created an VB.NET application to get and check out all project files from my VAULT, change the different paths and check in the files in the vault. However, I need to include the new material library in each project files.
I found that we could change almost everything, but not include material library.
I have a customer who uses negative material mass in Inventor to calculate buoyancy for submerged constructions. After upgrading to 2013, we have a problem: Inventor 2013 does not accept negative material mass
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn Inventor 2012 user has ability to change the material properties globally.
All parts using certain material will follow the changes made to properties and written to single library. It is clear and predictable.
In Inventor 2013 material properties belong to individual file.
When changes were done to appearance properties of a single part there could be situation when the same material parts in the assembly could have different appearance.
Here is the fact I do not understand and it is contradict to actual reality since the same material with the same standard must look absolutelly the same when switched to Master view.
Seems like to make parts look the same or to change the appearance I should click on each single file and make the same changes to each file.
I do not intend to change the appereance properties in single file on purpose to make problems to myself but I am sure I will take somebody else part and it will be changed due unnecessary reflection or other too much realistic things added in 2013. So finally I will get some sort of parrot collored assembly without clear and most importand easy way to make an order.
So I wish I could equalize all same material parts in apearance view. I do not count the way of clicking each file.
