We are using C3D 2013 and have recently had 3 different episodes where a dwg file was open and being worked in, CAD shut down without warning and the drawing was lost. As in, it's gone. No longer on the network anywhere. These were 3 different drawings in different projects. The drawings were not new, they had been previously created and worked in by more than one user. We were able to find a backup file and did not lose every thing but still thinking there has to be something causing this. The machine is a Dell Precision T5600, 16 GB of RAM, only had it for a few months.
I have 2013 inventor/mechinical a cad did not have enought memory on c: drive added another hard drive E:Â need to move my files to the e drive. single seat all on this computer.
I have some blocks with attributes, with the default of some of the attributes being blank. When I try to transfer the block to my Tool Palette, the block loses the attributes that have blank defaults. Why are these attributes disappearing from the block?
I'm using AutoCAD 2013. I need to explode text so that it will appear as line work, otherwise my surveying instrument won't display it.Â
When i use the express tools explode text command, the text disappears, this message is shown in the command bar
"The line objects have been placed on layer 0."
However, there is nothing on layer zero. Might this have something to do with missing shape files, or can AutoCAD only explode certain simple forms of text?
I started a drawing for a project, and so far I don't have much information in the drawing. I created a few objects, then went to one of my Layout pages and created a viewport to view the objects, and bam - some of the lines are missing (the yellow objects). As you can see on the screen grabs, I hovered over the Model tab to prove they're still there. Even when I double-click inside the viewport to edit through it and try to grab the objects, they're apparently gone. But they're not, they show up in the Model tab.
The layer they're on is turned on, thawed, and unlocked, but every object in that layer is missing when I leave the Model tab. I've opened viewports on other Layout pages, and they all refuse to show the yellow lines.
I consider myself an advanced CAD user and much of the evolution that hapenned since I started using CAD-14. However, one of the most annoying features introduced in CAD 2010 is the 'disappearing' layer dialog box once you go to select a color. So you open the layer, create a new one, go to select a color just before you assign it a linetype, lineweigth and make it current, but as soon as you open the 'select color' dialog box and hover over it the layer window just goes. I know you can just make sure you do the color selection last, but what if you want to create three different layers and assign them a color ? you have to open the layer window 3 times and look for your layers...
when i make a parent view from model space of 3d objects not all of them will appear in paper space. some times it will only display objects from one layer and other times it will pick and choose. this can also happen when i edit an object in paper space and when i return to paper space objects i was not even editing have disappeared from the view. note this does not always happen, in fact it does not always happen with the same objects.Â
It does not matter if i open and close AutoCAD the objects will still be gone. This has happened before SP1 but seems to be happening more since the release of it. i can provide a file.

In AutoCAD 2013, when I try to select a dimension object for moving, erasing, &c, the text disappears. How to get it to stay displayed? Â Seems to just be when using AutoCAD 2013.
The minimize, restore down, & close icons keep disappearing from the upper right hand corner on my current drawing file in 2013 LT. They will reappear once I re-zoom the drawing. Is there any way to keep these icons on the screen at all times?
When I try to open help in Inventor 2013, I get the error shown below about internet access. So I downloaded the offline files and saved them to C:program filesautodeskinventor 2013 and double clicked on the tutorial_files.ipj file to open Inventor as instructed in the installation notes, but still get the error. I opened the HelpIds.xml file in the Inventor Bin folder and set Use Online="0" and also copied another set of files into c: programs autodesk inventor2013local help and double clicked the tutorial_files.ipj file located there.Â
I am currently using Autodesk Inventor 2013 Product Design Suite. When I open a new instance of Inventor, I get the "Welcome!" window the pops up along with the blank inventor program. From here if I attempt to create a "new" file, it seems to just freeze. I cannot even get into the window that lets you pick which template you would like to use. I have tried creating from all 4 locations (Welcome!, general toolbar, Get Started, and Inventor's file equiv).
I have no problems opening files that have already been created which leads me to believe that there must be some error in bringing up that new template window. This makes converting my 3D models into 2D autoCAD files impossible.
Can you save files for 2012 in 2013?  I have the ability to upgrade to 2013 while others at my company are not able to, since they were not put on the subscription service.  If I upgrade will they still be able to open my files or can I back save to a previous version?  I know I can save it as different file type, like .iges or .step, then use feature recognition.  But I need them to have full editability to sketches and features.
I have no this problem for version before Inventor 2013, just start from this lates version.
I models a ballet bar assy in 2'6" width with derived sketch, then I used DA to copy all the files with new name in 4'. After that, I tried to open the new files, it crashed itself, no matter I open a part or assemble.
But if I changed the derived sketch name back to its original, everything is fine for new files.
I attahced the zip file, try it. If it crashes, just change file: BALLET BAR 4ft_SKETCH
One of our customer has inventor 2013 and I am working with inventor 2014.
I would like to know if there is anyway for my customer once my job is done to be able to load the Sub assembly with his software and be able to work with it ?
They told me Inventor fusion is not an easy tool and would prefered to use inventor files.
I thought I'd share a little discovery we made here yesterday. Before we upgraded to Inventor 2013, there was a lot of fuss and hesitation due to 2013 not having the AMDT import wizard functionality. This lack of functionality was also confirmed by our VAR.
I can confirm that Autodesk Inventor Professional 2013Â DOES have the usual Mechanical Desktop import wizard.
I can also confirm that it still doesn't bring in extruded text :-)
I've attached a collection of screenshots as proof.
When I try to open a .ipt file that is posted here in Inventor 2013, I get an error.
I have tried on several different files and it will not open them. I dont have any problem opening my own files, just the ones that other users have posted here.
I've been working with psd files in CS4 and after saving once, everything seems normal. After working on a file more and trying to save, I get a message that it can't be saved because the file name is not valid. If I close the file without saving and try to reopen, it says I don't have permission to open the file. I've tried doing a SaveAs under a different name with same results. Even worse is that the files I thought I had saved previously simply disappear from the folder they were in if I do the SaveAs step under a similar, but different name (like adding -1 to the name.) They don't appear anywhere on the computer that I can find. I'm running an up-to-date Windows 7, 64-bit. CS4 also is a current 64-bit.
So I have 25 years 3d CAD experience. Catia, Alias, Ford PDGS.I have spent 20 hours on Inventor 2013. Great program. Very intuitive. Have been banging out models easily.
My issue however is a Client has given me sone .stp's and Iges files to work with. They open fine as a .iam The issue is saving. I have the project folder setup, go to save.
I Get the "do you want to save changes to "XXXXXXXX.iam" and all its dependants.I select "yes to all".I get the "Yes" under the "Save" Column for all listed .ipt's...I hit OK.......Autodesk attempts to save.
...Then I get the dialogue box up with ! icons "The system cannot find the path specified" - The database in C:Users.........xxxx.ipt could not be saved
We've finally nibbled the bullet and upgraded to 2014. I'm getting errors in the Task Scheduler logs about missing files in various projects. It would appear that (almost) without exception, the failed files are all Content Center parts that were inserted as custom parts. Do I need to run a migration on the Content Center parts (Inventor/ContentCenter Files/R2013/en-US) in order for the custom parts to migrate properly?
In a seemingly random way, files occasionally just show up corrupted (thumbnail is white with an X in the center) and no longer open. Image info still shows up but the image is corrupted or lost. I do not have the Preserve feature (or whatever it's called) active, as it didn't seem to have an option to select where the preserved files are stored, and I don't want hundreds of MBs of image files to be stored by default on my small SSD C: drive, where my operating system is installed. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why these files disappear. I can not professionally trust a program that exhibits this behavior. Must I now store duplicate file sets, to be drawn from should X4 decide to corrupt my working files at random?
I opened up a few files in Photoshop 7, and when I was done working on them, they wouldn't save saying they were locked. I closed the files without saving them, and then selected them in the folder, right clicked, went to properties, and unchecked "read only." I was able to work on them and save them after that, but then I noticed they had disappeared from the folder. I have gone to folder options and checked "show hidden files." I have searched for them. When I click on the shortcut for them, it says the file is no longer there and it is not in my recycle bin. Have I lost these files for good?
I have a problem with Inventor 2013. The dimension lines have disappeared. I've been through all the dimension styles and layers to make sure I hadn't turned one off
All other drawings are fine and if I create another even using the same model it works just fine but I'd rather find out why than re-do the whole drawing.
I'm trying to generate frame members around a combination of 2D & 3D sketches, the preview is fine however when I click apply and OK it magically vanishesÂ
Everything is set up fine in the 'Insert Frame' dialogue box and the previews look spot on.

At times when dimensioning or creating views in 2D, items will disappear. These items are dimensions or even complete views. They return as soon as hit the scroll wheel on the mouse or my 3D connexion mouse.
I have recently ran in to an issue where the imported AutoCAD blocks disappear when I export to .dwf, this only appears to happen after I add the revision table. If I were to add the revision prior to importing the blocks all seems ok. I have tried removing the block and deleting the definitions from the Inventor.dwg then re-inserting once more and I still have the same issue. The only real working solution I've found so far is to start from new and reproduce the drawings.
I have a brand new Dell M90 Workstation (1 week old) with Nvidia Quadro Fx2500M Video Card (Certified). Both the context menus and dialog boxes are disappearing off the screen at different times - they are still there because when the mouse is moved across the area parts of the boxes reappear. Dell has replaced the video card, hard drive and motherboard and still the same problem.
