AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Measure Area Of A Region - Defined On TIN Surface
Dec 6, 2013I’d like to ask how I can measure the area of a region, defined on a TIN surface. ( i.e. the area of the bounded topographic terrain )

See the attached JPG, I basically have a conical internal diameter with a pin protruding into it..... I need to measure the flow area as shown in the sketch attached here. the way I have this shown in the attached JPG is the way that we had previously performed this in Pro-e.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a corridor which builds a surface which then is integrated into my overall surface. Until today I have been using a basic assembly which has worked fine, however today I began splitting regions where we have varying sideslopes etc. Once I re-associated the new regions with their corresponding assemblies, my entire surface went haywire, and now seems to be ignoring several other corridors / feature lines / other grading features I have.

I can see the area of a TIN surface no worries (under Surface Properties/Statistics/Extended), but want I want to get is surface area of a TIN volume surface where no "extended" option seems to be available to view the area information with this type of surface.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get C3D to report the surface area for a bounded area with no success. I am aware of the Bounded Volume feature, which BTW appears to be retired in the 2014 release (AECCCFDBADDBOUNDEDVOLUME fails to produce any results). Obviously there have been some major changes.
What I want to do is retrieve a report for a defined section of a surface, regardless, of what type of surface it is. I see this as simple as deriving the 3D areas of the trinangles within a bounds of a TIN.
For a surface: I would like to a boundary above a inlet point that is 3" deep.
I would like something like catchment area but the ability to specify a depth distance. Or specify a depth in the water shed analysis in the surface properties.
The only way I know to do what I want is user defined contours for each elevation. Is there a better way to do get a specific shed area for a depth?
I'm an Archicad User and I'm evaluating Revit at the moment as I'm interested in a better integration with other Autodesk products.I have two questions though that Google and the Docs couldn't answer me.
1- I have an Annotated Region (a polygon), how can I annotate an angled measure of an edge? I've tried the aligned dimension tool and this link: URL....
2- What's the proper way to join a point of an edge to another edge without changing the length? (somehow to 'rotate' an edge around one point and 'snap' the other point to another edge). I'm using a circle tool and snapping to intersection at the moment.
Also, I know this isn't the best place to ask, but is Revit worth the change? I mean, i'm completely satisfied with Archicad and so far Revit isn't very intuitive at all and the workflow seems it's never going to be on-par with Archicad, I'm considering the change solely for the fact that Revit may have a much better integration with AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, and other Autodesk softwares.
I have a surface built for the bottom of a pond. The way to get the surface area (not the volume) of the bottom of this pond?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a large ex surface that I have divided into basins and such. I know need to evaluate the slopes in these areas. To do the whole surface at once seems to not be possible. Is there a way in c3d to view analysis information for a section of surface for instance in a polyline or fence?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow to calculate the AREA of cut and fill analogous to the volume of cut and fill between surfaces, but instead only between the alignment and the road profile in the prolfile view. From what I've read of similar posts a few people have had the same question but have been instructed how to do it with volumes as opposed to area. Also how to insert a table of cut and fill area analogous to the one you can inset from the volumes dashboard.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to have a closed region that can display the area of the region (I want to see it on the screen without having to click on the area and look in the properties). Is this possible?
I want the closed region to be dynamic i.e. when I change the area of the region the displayed area should automatically change. Is this possible?
Even better would be if autocad could give the area a id and in a table that can be exported to excel reports the area of the region. Then if I have many regions autocad give every region a new id and all the id:s and areas are reported in the same table.
As a hvac calculation engineer i often need to measure quickly pipes length and ventilation ducts area.
Measuring pipes lenght is quite easy with qselect + tlen.lsp, but, so far, how to measure ducts area quickly.
I'd like to add that ducts surface seen in 2D would satisfy me and i only talk about 2D drawings.
How to do this measure? Maybe there are lisp routines that could work?
How to make my drawing as region that cover the close area. When i select the circle object and tooth object, it not become a region . I already connect all the line but its not working.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe are able to measure distance in meters between 2 points using COGO tools. Though, when meassuring areas (command area) even setting units to meters it shows: "Area = 0.00000073, Perimeter = 0.00343123" which is not expressed in meters. The area in meters is around 8900m2. We are using latitude, longitude LL84 (WGS84). Is there a way to easily measure area over the map using this coordinate system?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFound that in certain drawings, the measure area tool will just suddenly stop working? It's very odd. It let's me pick points, but won't let me press enter to see the total.
Closing and reopening AutoCAD doesn't work. It seems to be a permanent thing to the affected drawing.
It's happened to me in a few drawings, but only in those specific ones. Other drawings are fine. I'm guessing it's a setting I've changed somehow?
I've been getting round it by creating shapes using the polyline, and then looking at the area in the properties window. It's an ok solution, but not ideal.
Is there an 'easy' way to see a cross sectional area and measure it? I have tried getting a cross-sectional area by off-setting a work plane into the model, sketching on that plane, and pressing F7.
This shows the cross-sectional area, but when I click the inspect>area I can not select the cross-section. Any thoughts besides creating a sketch on that surface and extruding it to remove; taking the area measurement, and then undoing the extrusion?
I've figured some things out, but am struggling with what appears to be a very valuable tool... the area tool.
I found many references to the boundary tool, but that looks more complicated.
I have figured out how to mark the corner and press enter, but the output is for example 1.7 sq ft vs. what should be approx 35K sq ft.
I tried to change the units, but that didn't seem to make a difference.
I have an assignment. I've done all the work until i reached the end of it which is adding 2 cylinders to a weird looking object.
I'm trying to put the cylinder which shares a space between a wedge and a region but I'm unable to subtract it.
How to go about creating a surface, region or 3D object using non-coplanar points? I'm drawing a few different 3D models for an artist friend of mine to use in her proposal on a local public art project.
However for this version I am bottlenecking on how to create these regions. I have vertical(ish) beams of varying height twisting in different directions with sheets of alternating metals welded in-between, the bottoms line up straight with the tops following an S curve but with the twisting geometry the top two endpoints for each will always be in separate planes.

I'm wondering if there is a lisp possible to measure area's by pick point (as in bpoly). This little feature exists in Microstation so i was looking for something similar.
Is it also possible if this lisp can measure areas from an external reference (dwg, dxf, dgn, shp etc..)? I'm kind of new to AutoCAD in that sence.
How can i select areas of an image and find their size in pixels?
using the measure tool or image size only works for square (straight sided images).
With Illustrator CS6, is there a way to measure/calculate the enclosed area of a given vector shape?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am trying to select the thorns/rose seperately in the attatched image, but because of the varying levels of definition of the borders, I cant see any way to do so other than by hand pixel by pixel. Are there any addons that make this task easier, or is there a simple function that I have just not seen.
My goal is to overlay it on three seperate colored layers, and "cut through" the lower layers with the top layer set on multiply, that way coloring the details while leaving the shading intact.

When I right-click the dwg name in the Settings tab of Toolspace and choose Edit Drawing Settings, then Ambient Settings, I see the Area settings, but in the closure summary, there is also "Square Area". Why are these both there? It WOULD be nice to show sq. ft. as well as acres, but I can't find anywhere to edit it.
