AutoCad :: Closed Region That Displays The Area?
Oct 29, 2013
I want to have a closed region that can display the area of the region (I want to see it on the screen without having to click on the area and look in the properties). Is this possible?
I want the closed region to be dynamic i.e. when I change the area of the region the displayed area should automatically change. Is this possible?
Even better would be if autocad could give the area a id and in a table that can be exported to excel reports the area of the region. Then if I have many regions autocad give every region a new id and all the id:s and areas are reported in the same table.

I cant do booleans with polylines, for that I need to convert them to regions which I dislike because I lose edit vertex capabilities right? Also, from a region, how can I convert a region to a closed polyline in one go.

I'm trying to calculate the principal moments (and section modulus) of a slection of closed polylines.
On this blog, I read that there are some new classes and functions in the AutoCad 2014 objectARX that can do this.
The one that interests me the most is 'RegionAreaProperties.PrincipalMoments Property'.
However with my limited programming skills, I can't get it to work in vb.net.
I thought is was just a property of a region, but something like 'myregion.RegionAreaProperties.PrincipalMoments' does not work.
With the code I already have I use a selectionfilter to select multiple closed polylines. I can convert these to regions if nescesary. But what is the next step? I can't find any samples of it. Not even in the Autodesk Developer's Guide.

I have small problem. When I use hatch on certain area it also wants to hatch one closed area ,however other closed areas do not hatch. I rechecked , remade the closed area which is hatched along side with the area I really need to hatch. So how can I isolate that little area? Or what is the problem?

Presently the "AREA" of a closed polyline is in "sq-in" first, THEN "sq ft".
For everything I do, and likely others, I need sq ft - without having to waste time and roll my cursor over the results.
Is there ANY way to change this default to have sq ft FIRST!??

I was wondering if there is a settings for the displayed values in a polyline's properties. Such as area. Normally it will display square feet but I would like for it to also display acres. I know it a simple conversion, but over the course of a year or more it could save me alot of time.

I've read 2013 is going to include line labeling capabilities by selecting 2 points rather than selecting linework. Is there going to be a way to label an area without creating a closed polyline or parcel, where it works the way a hatch works. So if I selecting in the middle of multiple individual intersecting lines, it labels the area.

I need to segregate closed polylines in my drawing by area range. Ideally, I would input the number of ranges I need.
Then somehow find the smallest and largest pline area to determine the range values (rounding up to a sensble number)
Then with the ranges determined the polylines would be segregated and moved to new layers.
I've been trying to hobble together pieces but with no joy.

Is there a way to make AutoCAD2012 display the area of a closed Polyline as Feet- Inch(ex 22'-4") rather than the feet as a decimal (ex feet=22.3333333) as it does when the units are set to Architectural or Engineering?

I have used PEDIT to join multiple polylines, which now appear as polylines. But when I use QSELECT to show all open (non-closed) section, one polyline still shows up as open.
I've attached the file I'm working on. The polyline in question is the green outline on the object on the right.

I've recently migrated from AutoCAD 2008 (non-industry specific) to AutoCAD 2010 so I don't know if this was an issue in 2009.
Back in 2008, when I choose the 'window' option when specifying a plot area, AutoCAD would show the workspace so that I could manually select a windowed plot area, and at the same time the whole workspace would be greyed out except the previously active window area.
This was handy, because we can have as many two dozen title-blocks (and therefore separate viewports) in paperspace, and knowing what plot area I last plotted or added as a saved page setup.
In 2010, it no longer does that. I now have to rely on the dashed border to know where the active plot area is/was (checked 'display printable area' in options>display tab) which I personally don't really like using.

How to changes the settings for the "Square Area" in mapcheck's closure summary. When I right-click the dwg name in the Settings tab of Toolspace and choose Edit Drawing Settings, then Ambient Settings, I see the Area settings, but in the closure summary, there is also "Square Area". Why are these both there? It WOULD be nice to show sq. ft. as well as acres, but I can't find anywhere to edit it.

I want to know if there is an easier ACAD solution for drawing. In the given triangle of ABC (sides and angels are known) I want to draw line CM so that the area of BCM becomes 2000 cm (are of ABC is 5311.7 cm3).
Is there an easy ACAD way for drawing this line without using trigonometry for calculation?

I need to determine whether an area intersects with another area. The left case can be easily determined by Polyline.IntersectWith(Polyline...).But in the right case, the two polygons intersect/overlap each other while polylines do not intersect.
What would be the efficient way to determine the right case polygons are intersecting polygons?

how to get the points of a region using c#. ?
We have irregular shaped regions (and meshes) that we are trying to map for duplication. I've seen the code that gets the mass properties but cant figure out how to expand that down to the individual points/coordinates that make up the border of the region/meshes.

I am having one region entity which is not getting exploded.
This region is resultant of solid editing (bolean opearions) on some regions. When I use explode() function to explode this region programatically it returns status as 'eNotApplicable'. And if I try to explode this region manually using EXPLODE command in AutoCAD 2010 it gives message as 'Cannot explode REGION'.
I am not getting why this is causing problem in 2010 only. It is working fine in other AutoCAD versions.

I have the need to curve a region, then extrude it, is this possible?
The region is a flat view of a plasma cut plate with lots of holes/shapes that then gets rolled, doing it the way I describe would exactly re-produce in cad how the finished physical product comes out.

I am starting up my class again using AutoCAD Civil 2011. I want to extrude a circle or just a closed pline to a solid. I have done this many times before, but now it is not extruding to a solid, just a "Surface Extrusion". My commands are C:circle; C:region; (shows as filled circle and confirms it is a region); and finally C: extrude ; when I extrude it it is not a solid but rather a hollow "Surface Extrusion". Is it a function of 2011 and something I have turned on?
