AutoCAD .NET :: Efficient Way To Determine Whether Area Intersecting Another Area?
Apr 14, 2013
I need to determine whether an area intersects with another area. The left case can be easily determined by Polyline.IntersectWith(Polyline...).But in the right case, the two polygons intersect/overlap each other while polylines do not intersect.
What would be the efficient way to determine the right case polygons are intersecting polygons?

I've been looking high and low for this and I can't seem to find an answer. I have two paths, some text and a line going through the text. I want to be able to keep the part of the line that intersects with the text, and leave the text intact. All of the "Pathfinder" modes seem to either not keep the intersecting part, or delete the rest of the text also. Is there something I'm missing?

Is there a way to determine the surface area of a staircase? For example when you click on a floor, the properties window automatically tells you the area. Can you do this with stairs? And is it possible to put this information onto a schedule?

I've recently migrated from AutoCAD 2008 (non-industry specific) to AutoCAD 2010 so I don't know if this was an issue in 2009.
Back in 2008, when I choose the 'window' option when specifying a plot area, AutoCAD would show the workspace so that I could manually select a windowed plot area, and at the same time the whole workspace would be greyed out except the previously active window area.
This was handy, because we can have as many two dozen title-blocks (and therefore separate viewports) in paperspace, and knowing what plot area I last plotted or added as a saved page setup.
In 2010, it no longer does that. I now have to rely on the dashed border to know where the active plot area is/was (checked 'display printable area' in options>display tab) which I personally don't really like using.

How to changes the settings for the "Square Area" in mapcheck's closure summary. When I right-click the dwg name in the Settings tab of Toolspace and choose Edit Drawing Settings, then Ambient Settings, I see the Area settings, but in the closure summary, there is also "Square Area". Why are these both there? It WOULD be nice to show sq. ft. as well as acres, but I can't find anywhere to edit it.

I want to know if there is an easier ACAD solution for drawing. In the given triangle of ABC (sides and angels are known) I want to draw line CM so that the area of BCM becomes 2000 cm (are of ABC is 5311.7 cm3).
Is there an easy ACAD way for drawing this line without using trigonometry for calculation?

See attached file.
How can you do the area takeoff of only the selected faces (red area)?
Right now I have to use the 3rd party software to do something like this. I'm curious if there's a way to do inside Revit?

After selecting the area type tool, I try to click and drag but I get an error message: You must click on a non-compound, non-masking path to create text inside a path. This worked before but I must have screwed something up.

i created new polygon´s SDF (ACAD Civil,Map2011). And created new feature from geometry (from 2 closed plines - island). See on attached picture. If polygons are more complex =erroneous result from calculation ("Round ( Area2D ( Geometrie ), 0 ) "). It means ACAD calculate sum 2 areas together, but It should dedust island from main polygon.

I have shape files (also SDF) but they are without area (in geometry box there is only Type: Polygon; Vertex, Vertex X, Vertex Y).
How do I get the area of the objects?
This is data I received but when I created shape files (or SDF) they also didn't have area in geometry?
Is there a rule or something? I know it can be displayed in feature properies after ticking the box but I want area in geometry.

I am aware that the dashed line in paper space represents the printable area for the type of plotter that is being used. Now... While in page setup when plotting dwg to pdf (on the same type of paper, ISO A3) the printable area border is different for every dwg. Sometimes it is right next to the paper border 1-2mm offset, and other times a good 2-3cm. I tried to resolve this but failed. New to the paper space and the whole plotting experience. So the questions are:
1. What is the printable area in dwg to pdf, what is it for?
2. Can i change the dimensions and position of the area when doing dwg to pdf, or when using other plotters?
3. Why is the area different for every dwg file when plotting dwg to pdf?

How can it be that a hatch object has no area property? Using the AREA command, it says the object has no area.
None shown in properties.
None listed using vlisp (vla-get-Area Obj).
I have seen this before, but why or how it happens.

I have started Brian Benton's tutorials and hit a problem on the second one, "Quick Run Thru". The problem is that the object drawn is too small on the screen to be useful. This was the result of drawing the 50x30 rectangle called for in the tutorial. My First Rectangle17-07-2013 8-15-10 AM.jpg What setting adjustment is required to show the rectangle as it appears in the tutorial - i.e. larger on the screen so I can do something with it.

I am trying to calculate the area of the attached file. Just the Blue section. Is there a faster way to calculate the area than using the "area" command, then going through and selecting each line, then each arc, over and over again? I also tried making a poliline that follows the entire pattern at the width I wanted, then using the "area" command for the "object" that is the poliline. This is faster, but does not give me the correct area. It says that the calculated area does not take into consideration the width of the poliline. The width of the poliline is very important in my application, and will sometimes be changed. Than a new area will be needed with the new width.

Is there any way I can create a boundary around the hatch lines?

how to get the area of this polyline .........
i used properties command >>>
i used li command >>>
i used area then o command >>>> it says that area = 362.5350 ok this is wrong ..
i calculate the area of the polyline by separating it to parts then subtract the area >>> 368.62 - 7.79 = 360.83 this is the correct area
actually this is to hard to separate polyline to parts, when i have alot of polyline.
i guess this problem causes, when you have self-intersecting polylines the file is attached ..

I've created a successful FEA simulation in Inventor 2014 and obtained results. But I want to see the highest stress in a defined area that is smaller than the entire part (I have some stress concentrations that are throwing off my 'max'). Is there a way to probe an area instead of just a point? I'm tired of creating a dozen probes to find the 'local max'.

My question is, in SSA how would you model an inlet in say a parking lot that is NOT a curb inlet but an "area inlet" that is in sag. For the project, we are using Neenah grates and so would like to use the Neenah inlet manufacturer.
SSA 2012 and Civil 3D 2012 (We do have 2013 as well but haven't installed it yet)

As a hvac calculation engineer i often need to measure quickly pipes length and ventilation ducts area.
Measuring pipes lenght is quite easy with qselect + tlen.lsp, but, so far, how to measure ducts area quickly.
I'd like to add that ducts surface seen in 2D would satisfy me and i only talk about 2D drawings.
How to do this measure? Maybe there are lisp routines that could work?
