Revit :: Determine Surface Area Of Staircase
May 28, 2013
Is there a way to determine the surface area of a staircase? For example when you click on a floor, the properties window automatically tells you the area. Can you do this with stairs? And is it possible to put this information onto a schedule?

I need to determine whether an area intersects with another area. The left case can be easily determined by Polyline.IntersectWith(Polyline...).But in the right case, the two polygons intersect/overlap each other while polylines do not intersect.
What would be the efficient way to determine the right case polygons are intersecting polygons?

I am trying to create a glass roof structure over a staircase (see attached image - underground roof). I thought that I would do this by creating an in place mass, then adding either a roof or probably more likely a curtain wall system to the faces. However I am struggling to create the mass. I have made a wireframe of the roof (wireframe) using lines where the roof folds are, in autocad. I have then linked this in to Revit.
When I come to creating the Mass, I can only place lines using the "Pick line tool", which then only places lines on a specific reference plane (level 1,2 etc), so I only get a 2d footprint of the area I want to create this mass.
If I try to create a mass face using the 3d snapping tickbox, Revit fails to register that there are any lines for me to snap too. I have tried to "Tab", but this doesn't work either.

I need to extract the XY location of a surface label. Specifically, I am trying to determine the coordinates of the first picked point in a two-point slope label. But in looking at the IAeccSurfaceSlopeLabel interface in the ActiveX documentation, I'm not seeing where this data is stored. Even for a simple surface spot elevation label (IAeccSurfaceElevationLabel) I don't see a property that stores the coordinates.

How to determine the distance between the two “flights” of the stair?
I couldn’t find the option through which the distance between the two flights is determined.
Also, how to create another landing at the end of the stair!
Software: AutoCAD 2014, AutoCAD C3D, AutoCAD M3D, Revit
Windows 7 (Ultimate 64 bits),
Firefox 20.0,
Kaspersky 2013.

See attached file.
How can you do the area takeoff of only the selected faces (red area)?
Right now I have to use the 3rd party software to do something like this. I'm curious if there's a way to do inside Revit?

This is something that used to be very easy to do in autocad (with a polyline) and checking the length on the properties bar. When I select multiple lines (chain of lines) the "length" data is greyed out. I hate having to measure every segment separately!

I have a project involving 3 programs. I am creating a planned development in 3d to be 3d printed when finished. The project is a 5 acre tract containing 8 buildings. I have built the surface in C3D and each building in Revit. The buildings are not in the same Revit file. For my solid work, I will bring the files over into 3ds Max Design to section into smaller quadrants to build in the 3d printer.
The questions:
Would it be better to import the surface into Revit to merge surface and buildings together?
Would it be better to import the buildings into C3D to merge entities?
Would it be better to bring those entities into 3ds Max and then merge them into one? Will 3ds Max Design allow me to insert entities accurately in the environment?

I am trying to get C3D to report the surface area for a bounded area with no success. I am aware of the Bounded Volume feature, which BTW appears to be retired in the 2014 release (AECCCFDBADDBOUNDEDVOLUME fails to produce any results). Obviously there have been some major changes.
What I want to do is retrieve a report for a defined section of a surface, regardless, of what type of surface it is. I see this as simple as deriving the 3D areas of the trinangles within a bounds of a TIN.

For a surface: I would like to a boundary above a inlet point that is 3" deep.
I would like something like catchment area but the ability to specify a depth distance. Or specify a depth in the water shed analysis in the surface properties.
The only way I know to do what I want is user defined contours for each elevation. Is there a better way to do get a specific shed area for a depth?

Is there some option in inventor to define macro for it coz i hav no knowledge of defining macros.

I have created a simple iPart that has three length variations, and therefor has three different surface areas.
I have added a simple table to my drawing. The table is linked to the iPart, I have used the column chooser to select the appropriate parameters to illustrate the length variations from the iPart. I would also like to include the surface area for each iPart member alongside each length variation in the table.

What approaches are available in civil 3D to takeoff the surface area of daylight slopes?Which do you recommend for given scenarios?
I tried compute materials but the volume report for cut and fill area is zero - so either I missed something or the compute materials for surface area does not work yet. Then, I tried the QTO manager and linked the corridor codes slope_link and daylight_fill to payitems. Slope_link has a QTO of 1,458,099M2 and daylight_fill has 913.39M2; I have more confidence in the daylight_fill takeoff.

I m trying to draw some stairs but really struggling in even finding a place to start. Basically I have a large cylinder which an access platform, I need to put some stairs to it as per the as fitted drawing which is lacking in info to say the least. I know the diameter of the tank, and the length of the stairs as the leave the platfor to the ground. I also know the floor elevation height, just not got a clue where to start.
Forgot to mention the angine of the spiral staircase in 40degrees.

How to calculate the AREA of cut and fill analogous to the volume of cut and fill between surfaces, but instead only between the alignment and the road profile in the prolfile view. From what I've read of similar posts a few people have had the same question but have been instructed how to do it with volumes as opposed to area. Also how to insert a table of cut and fill area analogous to the one you can inset from the volumes dashboard.
