AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Created Berm And Retention Pond To Contain Runoff - Water Volume

May 15, 2012

I have a site, on which I've created both a berm and a retention pond to contain runoff.  I now need to see if this is retaing enough water at a certain surface elevation.

The existing site is one surface and the berm/pond are another surface.

Is there a way to do this?

I am trying to add an entry point to a retention pond that was created by grading tools.  I will to entry point to be shaped like a trapezoid.  I also want to grade a entry point to the slope of pond to control water erosion.

I have been trying to add the entry point for days.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Calculate Runoff Water That Splits To Two New Subbasins

Sep 5, 2012

I’m using 2011, due to printing issues in 2013.  My question relates to determining how runoff gets diverted, or spreads out, after leaving a well defined channel.

I have a street intersection scenario.  It’s a “Y” situation in which the main trunk of the “Y” is curbed and contains all the water for the three storms I’m studying.  Runoff flows towards the two streets that branch off.  I need to know what percentage of runoff water splits during the 2-, 10-, and 100-year storms from the main (curbed) roadway to the other two streets - one curbed, one uncurbed.

I assume that velocity, runoff volume, storm intensity, street cross sections, slopes, and other variables play a big role in how the water diverts, but I’m not sure how to set up this scenario in SSA.  Do I somehow use a weir?  Do I use an open channel, or user-defined channel?  I have a subbasin area defined with my concentration point at the end of my main curbed street before the water splits off.  I’m not sure where to go from here when it comes to inserting links, weirs, channels, etc.

how I can set this up?  I’m not even sure it’s possible to have the software provide this type of calculation.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Sample Line Volume Report And Surface Volume Give Different Quantities

Jun 18, 2012

I'm working with TIN surfaces, doing cut/fill comparisons for a surface mine.

My volume surface statistics show a cut volume of 5167.22 cy and fill volume of 8456.18 cy.

The sample line group volume report show cumulative cut of 5527.67 cy and fill of 8465.56 cy.

What could be some causes of this disparity. All reference surfaces are built from points and use a non-destructive boundary.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: SSA Storage Volume Is Double Of Pondpack Volume

Apr 24, 2013

I want to use it as my primary hydrologic and hydraulic modeler.  It only makes sense.  Well, I got the program to work and had things linked in and was able to route a storm through the network.  But when I routed the storms, I had to model double the storage that i expected.

So I went back to the program I'm familiar with - Pondpack by Benltey - and designed the same system I routed in SSA in that program - and got the storage volume that I would expect for a site of this size - about 2 acres.

Is there possibly a setting that I'm missing that makes my outlet structures route slower or less than they should?  Or is there some other reason that a system would give this kind of inflated need for storage?

My problem: I do not know how to grade the borderline so i end up having a surface with different slopes as my pond.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Pond Bottom Does Not Show Up In Cross Section?

Apr 10, 2012

After crating my squared pond (or waste landfill for that matter) I runned a cross section from an alignment running across the the entire pond. The cross section did not show the bottom of the pond. I noticed that I forgot to do an infill to the bottom of the pond so I did it. But, still the bottom of the pond its not showing up in the cross section, just the side slopes. Do I have to delete the alignment across the pond and recreate it? That is probably the only thing I have not done. BTW, I have an access road coming down the side of the pond with a corridor created already and is not showing up neither on the cross section.

PD: I am running Civil 3D 2012!

I've managed to balance the site to zero. The contour drawing I have shows elevations - which is great - however the client has asked to see the contours showing a Fill or Cut label from the original ground.
