AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Missing SHX File Replacement Not Applied?
Sep 20, 2013
So we receive a drawing from a partner and open it, and get this message, which is expected since FONTALT set to nothing
No problem, we click "Specify a replacement...", then get this dialog.
Where a replacement font is selected (it doesn't matter if we choose a TTF or SHX), and then the drawing continues to open. At this point we presume that any text with the style named "Style-WORKING" is going to be displayed using "Times New Roman".
But alas, open the STYLE dialog and.....surprise:
The font replacement never occurred. At this point if we choose a font and press Apply then REGEN the drawing, the text with the style "style-WORKING" shows up.
This sequence of events (except for the last step) occurred for a user and some important text in the drawing was overlooked because if was not being displayed. Even setting QTEXTMODE = 1 does not show the missing text rectangles.
So what is the point in telling the user that a font cannot be found and prompting him for a replacement font if it isn't going to be applied? (Yes, I know the sender should have used eTransmit, etc., but that isn't the point here)
when I open a drawing that's missing an shx file I get a dialog box (see attached). I put a check mark in the "always perform current choice" item and select the "Specify a replacement for each shx file". I assume this replaces the missing shx file with the default shx file. But if I send the drawing to someone else they get the same message. Did the shx file not get replaced or do I need to do something further?
I was running a simulation with success including gravity and applied loads. I was checking both stresses and deflections. Both were in line with what I was expecting. The next day I went to change a few dimensions and run it again. The stresses and deflections were significantly less than expected (I did not tweak the dimensions very much). I changed my dimensions, remeshed and ran it again. It worked fine and returned expected results. I continued in this manner tweaking the size of my box.
Finally I went for one last run.... it didn't work again. It returned the significantly less than expected results. A bit of investigating revealed that it is only applying the gravity loads during the simulation. All of the applied loads are being disregarded (however, they show up in the report as if they are being applied.) If I supress the gravity my stress and deflections return 0 values. I have tried taking my loads off and reapplying them. I have tried removing the gravity load. I have remeshed. I have inputted my loads and the gravity in different orders. I cannot get my simulation to calculate using my applied loads. It was working fine.... what happened?
I am trying to apply the stripping pavement subassembly to only fill situation and even though my attachment point is only the fill case it applies it to both as shown. I am trying to get this information to provide a stripping volume for fill cases only.
As illustrated in attached image, I have several pictures (each one as different layer) in a same PSPIMAGE file. I would like to make “rounded” the border/edge of the all pictures (currently they are squared). How could I proceed with this operation?
I am having the darndest time figuring out what I'm not understanding with this, "bug". (I call it a bug because it seems to be one, imo.)
Specs: Mac OS X 10.75 Creative Suite 5, Photoshop 5.1
"Issues": If I adjust paragraph settings, like indents, in one file, those options do not return to default when I start a new file. Thus, I find myself wondering why I have such large gaps between lines of copy or to the left, etc. when I start a new text layer. (This actually happens not only in new files, but in new layers - the latter is slightly more understandable in that it's the same file.)
When a lightbuld goes on for me: "Check your type settings." And, lo-and-behold, there things are: space before or after a paragraph; right or left indents. All settings that used to be cleared when a new file - or a new layer - are opened. This is excruciatingly annoying. If I apply a layer style (e.g., drop shadow) to a shape layer, and then I create another shape layer, the latter one automatically gets all the same style settings applied. That is, the new layer has the all the same layer styles applied to it by default. Meaning, I have to then delete those as they are often not what I intend.
In any case, it used to be that I could choose what I want my own new files and layers to look like, not have previously used settings automatically applied.
I am putting together ROW markers using a process found on the Being Civil blog. The Marker setup shows on the Assemblies fine, I go through the corridor section editor and I can see the marker at the proper location for the ROW. The ROW marker will not show up on the section views, Not sure if I missed a step but everything seems to work up to the point of putting them on the section views.
something strange happened , I had open two files (work file and file to watch from) and somehow after closing AutoCad , the content of the work file is replaced by the content of the other one.It is same with the .bak file . Is there any chance to recover my previous work , somehow to go back in the history of that file?
I used a program back w/autocad 2002 called X-Sketch which allowed me to take hardline autocad drawings and alter them so that drawing had a "wavier", more hand drawn line quality to it. Essentially you could adjust the program to distort the lines on a drawing to whatever extent you wanted.
I believe X-Sketch went out of business a number of years ago, at least I can't find it.. Any replacement add on program to autocad program that can replicate this?
How to trick Inventor into using a different GD&T font than AIGDT___.TTF? I need to convert a bunch of drawings into an older cad program (using dxf12...long story) and the symbols don't translate. Thinking another font (such as gdt_____.ttf or gdt_IV25.ttf) might work. There's probably a registry hack somewhere, just don't know where.
I created a profile showing original ground and included superimposed profiles and an offset of the og line. Now when I open the drawing, the profile lines are gone. The grid is there, all of the profiles are listed under the alignment but they are not showing up. All of the styles are on and I've turned all layers on. I've tried to regain all and recover the drawing but the profile lines are not showing in the grid.
i'm having an issue with C3D 2013, i have a plan drawing, with various layouts linked with a sheetset. I'm having trouble when plotting them from the sheet set. It doesn´t plot my alignment labels. Also happening on some other drawings like plan and profile. If i do plot them one by one from the drawing, they plot fine. The problem is that it's a lot of drawings to be ploting one layout at a time...
We are working on a file here and the lables on the drawing are missing. We had station offset lables in our drawings and are now missing from the plans.
I am running 2012 and my group dialog box is nowhere to be found. (I opened 2011 and the dialog box pops up)
I just get a command prompt to select objects or [Name/Description]: -group gets me command line as usual. I enter a lot of legal descriptions and set them as various named groups for boundary analysis. Selecting the various groups via dialog is much easier. I have checked system variables but I cannot find anything I need to change. I have searched the discussion groups also but could not find any info.

We installed Civil 3D onto my supervisor's computer, and I can't find the menus. It's like they completely vanished. I set menu bar to 1, and the only menu I get is the Express menu. I don't get any of the other menus (file, alignments, profiles, grading, etc.).
On one of my computers, a couple of panels continually disappear on each start-up of Civil 3D 2013. On the modify tab, both edit geometry and edit elevations continue to uncheck themselves. I have save a workspace, made it default to no avail. Next startup i do the same thing, and so it goes throughout the day and every day.
I am trying to send some parts to get printed in 3D.
When I use the 'Send to 3D Print Service' button I select all the solids to get printed. I get no error message but the 3D render of the part has bits missing. See attachment.
I'm trying to import a .SAT file into ACAD 2000. I'm using the ACISIN command. Usually I don't have any problems with this. When I find a .SAT file that is too recent, I use HOOPS 3D Part Viewer v13.15 for ACIS to save down the file.
Lately I've been trying to import some Colson caster CAD files from 3dcontent central and I have a problem when I get to the ACISIN portion of my procedure. I get this message
"Modeling Operation Error: Missing integer in restore file. Unable to read the ACIS file"
The file looks fine in HOOPS. I'm not sure why it's not coming into ACAD. I used to not have this problem but I'm having it a lot lately.
A couple parts that I moved from one subasy to another in an IAM are not showing in the associated IPN browser at all. Yet they are visible in the edit window & look as if they have tweaks applied. I can click on & highlight them but there is no sign of them in the browser at all.
The parts are definitely in the browser of the IAM file though.
I'm using C3D 2013 on a 64 bit windows 7 machine. I have basejump loaded, and when I first installed it there would be a "Raster" tab in the ribbon that would allow me to resample, etc. That tab is now gone. How to get it back?
I used to click on a point to select it and a new tab would show up in the ribbon to list points, edit points, etc. That doesn't come up anymore either.
We just upgraded to 2013 and supposedly I should click the home tab -> pipe network -> pressure pipe network. But it isn't there. I can see that option in my toolspace and prospector, just nothing in my ribbons.
I am an IT specialist running AutoCAD Civil 3D on about 100 computers for students at a community college.
The students recently alerted me that the Plan Production templates are missing from their accounts. I have previously watched these templates build, and they are supposed to be installed for each user the first time they run Civil 3D. (I have actually seen these files get added to the enu directory as the green bar progresses.)
At one time, these templates loaded, but now they are not. I am seeing two other folders in this directory, as wel as several other templates in the enu root directory, but not the Plan Production folder.
Civil 3D is part of a suite of CAD apps I installed on our systems that includes base AutoCAD 2013, AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD MEP, AutoCAD Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD MAP, and AutoCAD REVIT.
Also, I have installed Civil 3D SP2 directly over the base installation without first installing SP1.
Finally, some users have told me that we should run base AutoCAD once and let that progrm make the first-time-use changes before running Civil 3D for the first time. I have tried running base AutoCAD first and Civil 3D first, and neither seems to make any difference.
