3ds Max :: How To Import Digital Terrain Data DTM
Nov 1, 2011i´m looking for a workflow to import Digital Map Data from a source. The Data we´re using comes from Geographical Institutes. The File-Format i have never heard of:
-binear DGM *.dgm
-*.adf
-ASCI GRID *.grd
I dont know how to convert it to a mesh or something that i can import to MAX. The free plugin, called "Terrain" on Maxplugins, can import files like *.dtm or point clouds but not our Digital Map Data.
Any simple workflow to import such Heightmaps into max?

Apr 5, 2012Are there tutorials for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 that assumes that the user never use AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012? Maybe a step-by-step tutorial. I tried the online tutorials on this website but I find them a little bit confusing. If I want to create 3D model of a city, what's the best way of creating 3D model of the city? I thought that one way of creating a city is:
1. Create terrain using DEM data.
2. Create streets, roads, highways, train tracks, etc. <- I need better tutorials.
3. Create buildings.

Is it going to be released as an add-on sometime soon? Is it already available for download, and I'm simply not aware of it? but i ran into some trouble. At step 5, where it says to press Base or use the command VIEWBASE i get a window that will ask me to open up some kind of inventor file. The tutorial does not acknowledge this, but the rest of the instructions and result seem like just what I need!

Mar 15, 2012When you use the Spacing command to set the work canvas grid spaciing, it requires that you pick a point in the drawing and then enter the value? Shouldn't it just prompt you for a value? Seems like a bug maybe. Am I missing a settings or something?

The TFW and AUX files appear to be insignificant metadata. MAPIIMPORT fails to insert the GeoTIFF. You can download it yourself by going here, go to Single FIle Download on the left-hand side, then click anywhere on the map, then click again anywhere on the map. You are given a list of datasets. Download the dataset labeled "2005 IndianaMap Digital Elevation Model."

AutoCAD Map 3D :: Industry Model - Generate Graphic Crashing
May 31, 2013I recently installed Autocad Map 3d 2014, 64 bits, on a windows 7 machine. I set up an enterprise model in a SQL server 2008 R2 database, created a custom industry model with one feature class, converted a SHP to my custom industry model. All 80 features were converted.
The problem is when I'm trying to call Generate Graphic function. Autocad Map crashes and I get this error in the error log:
An item with the same key has already been added.

My question is related to released state of iparts. Currently we are generating/ releasing
all the iparts when new member is added in order to manintain the parent child version relationship
Example : say i have a ipart 41020.ipt and i have members 41020- 001 ~ 008 . I check out the parent
from Vault and add 009 member to it.
Question :
Do I have to generate all and check those in to maintain the version relationship between the child and parent inside
Vault 2013 ?
Or
Only generating 009 will maintain version relationship inside Vault 2013

May 31, 2013I work in Rail Development and I am trying to create an assembly that will automatically generate a rail/tie shape and label Top of Rail Elevations, Track name and number, and offset distance. I have been copying/pasting a block onto each track in every cross section. This takes way too long! I have attached an image of what I want the assembly to look like in the cross section.
Before now, I have been typing in all of that information, when there are 9 tracks and 77 cross sections.

Apr 6, 2011I am creating exhibit drawings and legal descriptions for right-of-way and easement acquisitions. I'm using parcels to create the various objects for the exhibit drawings: parcels allow me to label the acquisition, area, and lines and curves. The parcel property gives me a 'mapcheck' description that I use to generate my legal description. All good.
How are people generating this sort of information for polylines? I will have polylines from my POB to my TPOB that I need to describe. I have artificially closed these polylines to create parcels from them so I can glean the information that I need, but that feels like a work-around.

Jun 6, 2013I do a lot of visualization work I need a corridor top surface split by material FAST. before I used Corridor Solids but I don't have the extension in 2013. So I export to CivilView, so far so good, then attempt to roundtrip the mesh back in Civil3D and that is where things fall apart.
Export to DWG is not split by material
Export to 3DS results in a blank screen
Export to FBX comes in missing large chunks of mesh out of scale and in the wrong location

Use the OverlayWidenMatchSlope1 rehab subassembly to build a corridor, targeting the existing road surface
2
Make a report using Corridor > Feature Line Report, reporting the Links to get the slope
Am I correct?

I have it in a layout (paper space) and used a viewport to get the section I am after but there are some changes in labeling and minor model modifications needed to make it a stand alone model and I do not want to modify the original model to make these changes. How can I take a section like I have in view port and make it into its own model with a different scale so the changes can be made and the original model is left in tact?

Jun 14, 2012CIvil 3D 2013 / My drawing opens in layout view and all model objects are appropriately coloured by layer. If I hit plot at this point, my colour dependent .ctb file works fine. However, once I swtich to model view, all my linework turns white and if I switch back to Layout view it remains white and plots each line with the weight assigned to the colour white.
