AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Generate Quantities By Creating Sections?

I am trying to generate my quantities by creating sections with template to do the cut and fill, however after i create the corridor and the corridor surface which should use the bottom of the curb, instead it is using the top of the curb. How can i change it so that it uses the bottom of the curb. It is a road crossection which i used from toolpalette, CIVIL3D 2012
I have a corridor drawing with my corridor and have sample lines ever 25 feet. I would like to generate my sections in a seperate drawing. Is this possible?
(I am trying to keep different pieces to my project in different drawings.)
I am trying to produce some longsections from a DWG Format Drawing i downloaded from a mapping website (promap) at the moment im going through the process of using a 3d polyline, snapping it to every contour i need, then viewing it from the side and drawing a longsection table around it (Pretty amatuer im sure) How is it possible to produce a longsection automatically using Civil 3D/AutoCAD (The contour map is made up of 3D Poly lines).
Is it possible to create manual points from a cross section.
For example, I want to create a surface from a sketched (hand drafted) proposed cross section by clicking on the different points on my cross section and having a point created in my plan view.
I am working with an ancient engineer who swears by hand drawing data into the cross sections, and then wants me to produce proposed contours based on this data. I am trying to get out of writing down the Station, offset, and elevation, and then manually creating points and having to type in the offset and elevation again.
Stuck on Civil 3d 2011 (until the end of this construction season)
I have some cross sections showing existing and finished grade. The finished grade is a channel and floodplain with slopes to catch existing ground. I’d like to create a report of the offset and elevation at each grade break for the finished grade. Optionally, it could be offset and cut or fill at each grade break. I’ve found the tool to create annotation for the offset and elevation info, but the cross sections are too small on the drawings to accommodate all that text. Is there a way to generate a report for the section view group or even each section view that would contain that information?
I am wondering if Autocad has some sort of function for creating quantities of continuous order text. Example: I have a grid for which each cell needs a label as such A-001, A-002, A-003..... etc.
I didnt know if there was any function within Autocad that serves as a text generator for something of the such.
Right now I have just copied the first Cell "A-001", pasted in all the other cells, and am individually going through and changing each number. This is a lot easier than generating text each time but it is still quite cumbersome.
We are just starting to use the pay items through QTO Manager & Takeoff. Everything was working fine until...I deleted a hatched area that represented a Butt Joint quantitiy. Now when I go into Compute Quatity Takeoff & select the Compute button, this quantity that was deleted is still there. And, since it is now deleted, I can't find a way to remove it from the Butt Joint quantity. I've tried using "Removes pay item from specific objects." I've tried deleting all my quantities and starting from scratch.
I have created a building pad on my site and need to extract fill quantity. I set the elevations on my building and created a 5:1 grading object. to the existing ground.Autodesk Instructions are, for the actual building footprint, that I need to create a grading object at 1:1. for the area covered by the actual concrete pad. Need screen shot of the style settings of this grading criteria. because the area is flat it is impossible to determine if the floor area has been built. When I run sections and create volume reports the only fill quantity is from the grading objects that slope out from the pad. I must be overlooking a setting in the style for 1:1.
I am using Civil 3D 2011 for my job. I am trying to put together preliminary estimates and need earthwork qunatities. I have no issue importing a google earth surface. I import the surface and create a boundary. How do I calculate cut/fill quantities? I tried creating a finished ground surface then making a tin volume surface to compare the two. However, I do not know how to create a fnished ground surface. I have also tried grading in civil 3d. Cannot get anyting to work.
I designed an upholstered furniture with curved surfaces. When I generate sections or elevation I'll see the invisible edges on curved surfaces! Is there a way to get the same result as the object viewer hidden line (or shaded with edges)?
2nd question. is there a way to control how many steps the surfaces are tessellated? The outline is not very smooth!
I am trying to work on a previous file in my office, and when it opens on mycomputer, it does not display as it should.
In general, the purpose of the project is to reinstate the side slopes of a road abutting a river. Cut & fill sections have been generated on 20m station increments along the road corridor/surfaces in order to calulate cut and fill as well as to reference the design to flood levels.
When I open the file, all of these sections (and there are alot) have relocated themselves to various locations in model space, none of which are aligned with the viewports that are being used for printing.
Could it be software and/or hardware incompatibility with the computer they were originally created on? (I believe it was created with C3D 2010, or C3D 2011 - I am currently running 2012)
When i am designing a layout and i want to put the sections on the left side or the right side with a nice font and blend or filter for the name of the section if the size that i have to work with is limited and i have a lot sections how do I add those sections if the canvas I have in photoshop isnt big enough to put all my sections?
Also, do i just put the name of the sections right under eachother and then slice some sort of content box under them or do i space them out a little bit to put a content box? These parts are really confusing me and I have been trying to figure it out but i cant.
I have generated a TIN surface and change the style to "Slope". I want to create a legend for the surface, but the legend has no content, only the header.
How do I generate a table that shows cut and fill quantities for comparing two surfaces similar to that what shows up in the panorama window. I am not working on a road project with an alignment.
I work in Rail Development and I am trying to create an assembly that will automatically generate a rail/tie shape and label Top of Rail Elevations, Track name and number, and offset distance. I have been copying/pasting a block onto each track in every cross section. This takes way too long! I have attached an image of what I want the assembly to look like in the cross section.
Before now, I have been typing in all of that information, when there are 9 tracks and 77 cross sections.
Althout I have created the widening on my aliment and used a designer critery on my corridor, I can't achieve that the corridor use the widenig on the curves.
I need that the corridor generate the widening on the curves, I can't stake the corridor without widening.
I am creating exhibit drawings and legal descriptions for right-of-way and easement acquisitions. I'm using parcels to create the various objects for the exhibit drawings: parcels allow me to label the acquisition, area, and lines and curves. The parcel property gives me a 'mapcheck' description that I use to generate my legal description. All good.
How are people generating this sort of information for polylines? I will have polylines from my POB to my TPOB that I need to describe. I have artificially closed these polylines to create parcels from them so I can glean the information that I need, but that feels like a work-around.
If they have addressed the issue of being able to generate feature lines as a continuous linetype, like when you turn on linetype generation in a polyline? I can't find it anywhere and I would have thought this should have been addressed by now! Real basic need for plan creation!
I do a lot of visualization work I need a corridor top surface split by material FAST. before I used Corridor Solids but I don't have the extension in 2013. So I export to CivilView, so far so good, then attempt to roundtrip the mesh back in Civil3D and that is where things fall apart.
Export to DWG is not split by material
Export to 3DS results in a blank screen
Export to FBX comes in missing large chunks of mesh out of scale and in the wrong location
I have sevreal corridors with various spurs. The contractor wants the cut/fill volume in sections along the corridors, not one big cut/fill calc. Is there a way to do this in C3D? I have got the volume table with the chainages on, but he does not want a cumulitive figure for the whole corridor.
We have created sections from our corridor. We see FG and EG, we can use bands for EG from surface. How do we get the FG band to show the elevations for FG? The only option we have is the EG surface. We have tried to create a surface form the corridor in the corridor properties but that surface still doesn't show up in the surface list in the bands. I would have thought this info would be dynamic and come directly from the corridor would it not?
I am working on a project for a park in which they are looking for a new access road and a parking lot. I created the road and sections for it, now im looking to get material cut/fill from the sections. I am having a tough time getting them to work. The only thing I can get to work is if i created a volume surface comparing my eg to my fg surface. That will give me a cut and fill material amount for my new road
What i am trying to get is the volume report for each sections, so i can get the cut/fill for each section. I have followed the tutorials and tried everything, but nothing seems to work. I created a surface from my corridor, and for some reason when i go to edit my materials, i cant add my proposed surface from my corridor to make the comparison from, and i think thats my problem. Everytime i go to create my volume report, i get all 0's.
I am trying to set up portrait cross sections. I can get my views to create a grid and such that look correct, however when putting them on sheets, it rotate the border, but also the modelspace. Are there certain settings in the sheet creation or the dwt file I need to review to do portrait sections?
