Apr 5, 2012Are there tutorials for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 that assumes that the user never use AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012? Maybe a step-by-step tutorial. I tried the online tutorials on this website but I find them a little bit confusing. If I want to create 3D model of a city, what's the best way of creating 3D model of the city? I thought that one way of creating a city is:
1. Create terrain using DEM data.
2. Create streets, roads, highways, train tracks, etc. <- I need better tutorials.
3. Create buildings.
3ds Max :: Create Terrain From Points File
Jan 21, 2014I have file: DEM with approximately 13000 points. The text file is (Y X H):
436800,00 104700,00 559,00
436805,00 104700,00 558,20
436810,00 104700,00 557,30
and so on....
I would like to insert those points into 3DS Max and later create a model from it. The problem is because I don't know how to import those points with this software. What would be the best way?
AutoCAD 2010 :: Rotate 3D Model In Model Space?
Apr 13, 2012Basically I've got a detail specific to my design, I've extruded all of the layers up to their desired levels etc, but now I want to be able to rotate it all so that instead of these layers being orientated vertically, they are orientated horizontally, if that makes sense. I understand that there is something involved with the UCS but I'm not sure how to get this to work. This may be an issue with my computer as I know my laptop graphics card is pretty rubbish and impacts a lot of 3d programs such as Rhino and SketchUp so this could be the issue here

However, for each file attached the levels of the project from ACA are not recognized in MAX - all the levels are stacked ontop of eachother in the same place. Dec 12, 2013I am looking for furniture content for renderings. I find some in Autodesk Seek. Most of the items are autocad 3d . It looks like they are built with surfaces. I want to make them usuable in 3d models in Autocad for architecture. I would like them to be easily accessible from the tool palletes. They seem similar to the ones that come from Archidigm. How do I drag and drop these 3d models into the tool pallette - I tried to first convert them into a blcok , but that did not work. Where can I find good furniture content, ready to drop into tool palllettes for ACA?

Aug 21, 2013I am creating a project with multiple level in ACA 2014. Set up levels like we always have but now we have a project where the lowest level is below 0. When I generate a model or elevations, the model is created with the lowest level inserted at z=0, not the real level.
After I experimented, if you create a model with say level 1 & 2 not included, it creates the model with level 2 @ z=0 ?

While in a view I make a "New Model Space View". After I tag this MSV it seems that being able to see the border of each MSV that is in my view dwg would be a useful thing. Is there anyway to turn this boundary on?
AutoCAD Architecture :: Model Space Colors Missing?
Mar 5, 2012We have a bit of an urgent situation at work. Namely we have stepped over from standard AutoCAD 2010 to AutoCAD Architectural suit 2012.
The situation is as such that if we set our search path to our ctb and our dwt (nothing else no other search path changes) our dwt templates load as being visibly black/white all the colour information is wrong.
Upon closer inspection of elements draw in the dwt for example a line though it still displays as being physically black/ white the properties menu declares it as being the colour we need it to be for example red. We have double-checked in our plot dialogue box if the ctb is present and its presence is confirmed. The peculiarity is though if we try and locate it using our (findfile “CTB\NAME\AND\PATH” method the command prompt returns nil meaning as far as I have come to understand as missing/ not loaded/ not found. A line the properties menu states the plot style is set to ByColor and not by the specific CTB file as when the same line is selected in AutoCAD 2010.
We have quite an extensive customisation comprising almost of every kind of file AutoCAD has put up for user customisability so my instinct was that something within the whole customisation was causing our issue.
We have since rid of all customisations and reset the profile using AutoCAD and as double backup also via the registry keys, we also have deleted our corresponding AutoCAD application folder in the hope of eliminating some nasty that may of stayed behind.
We have no plug-ins that cannot be the problem. Further experimentation shows that if we create a search path using the following lisp the colours are displayed right for the duration of the AutoCAD session but upon restarting AutoCAD the colours again become black/ and white.
When entities such as the lines are moved the items being moved flicker across the screen in their correct colour, once placed the image instantly shows as being black/ white again.
As final symptom our model space colour seems to be the only thing effected, our layout tabs are fine however we don’t work in layouts but rather in model space.
I have also as last used the vars2src command in AutoCAD 2010 and imported the variable settings into AutoCAD architectural suit 2012 hoping that the issue was a variable setting overlooked, to no avail though. Neither is our desktop icon enabled with any switches such as profiles.
AutoCAD Architecture :: Using Detail Boundary And Model Space Views?
Apr 8, 2013I'm using project navigator and I want to use the intelligent title marks created by the Mode Space View drawing that is created when I use the Detail Boundary.
I have purchased a 5 hour block of support time on this and after 4 days they have not found a result for me and are looking to developers at this point.
My issue is this. I xref in the floor plan that I want to use to make some enlarged floor plan details out of. I have a custom high detail display configuration set for this view drawing. I use the detial boundary tool that adds the detail boundary and tag and then created my model space view with an intelligent titlemark that will then reflect the number and sheet when inserted into a sheet drawing.
The problem is trying to get this MSV to reflect what I see on the floor plan. As of now it just brings in a enlarged detail of the area but it's all the same color with no hatch detail.
I can change the result of what I get by selecting the “model space view” that I created and then going to properties and changing the “display controlled by” on the display tab of the properties of that object. If I change that to “Drawing default setting” then the result is set to whatever the drawing default settings are. It looks like the “default settings” for a 2D Section/Elevation object are “General” Display Representations.
how to get my custom “Bew_High Detail” display representation to be the default Display Representation of the “2D Section/Elevation” object then I think I would get my desired results.
AutoCAD Architecture :: Model Space View Can't Be Dragged Into Sheet
Jul 9, 2012We have had a reoccuring problem in autocad architecture 2012 where model space views can no longer be dragged into a sheet. It just shows a circular cancel icon.
The sheets are set up fine and it may even have several MSVs already in place then out of no where the ability is lost. We have tried allt he usual fixes (checked the layers, restored the .bak file, tried on other computers, installed service packs) but it seems once the file is "poisoned" the only fix is to recreate the sheet and delete the old one. Not a terrible solution but it is not efficient.
We have a dozen computers all with acad architecture 2012 and it seems to happen on random computers and we can't pinpoint any specific differences between them.
We did not have this problem with Autocad architecture 2009.
It could be something with the project database.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Missing Objects In Model Space 2014?
Aug 29, 2013We experienced a problem. we have a drawing file, is about 1.6meg not big. while working in model space doing some 3D work, all of a sudden all the objects dissapear except for some text. all layers are on and thawed. we regen all, zoom all. weird thing is when we go into the paper space tabs everything shows up. so all the data is there some place but cant find it in model space.
there are no xrefs in the drawings and i had cleaned all the multiple copies out before to keep the file size down and more workable. this is happening on two machines. other drawings are fine.
AutoCAD Architecture :: Doors / Windows And Openings Fail To Display In 3d Model?
Mar 6, 2012Okay so to start with I have a building with 2 staircores. Everything is drawn in 3d and I have drawn the 2 staircores as elements and subsequently Xrefed these elements into the relevant constructs and subsequently a 3D model view.
When I view the elements as a live drawing (ie. when I open the individual elements) the drawing views okay in plan and in 3D wireframe, hidden mode etc... no problem so far!
When the drawing is Xrefed into a construct and subsequently a 3D model all of the windows and doors disappear... but in 3d only - ie. viewed in plan mode they are fine. I have checked the display configurations in the constructs and views and they are all set to display these objects in the medium detail and high detail for the model and plan modes.
In 3d wireframe mode the windows and doors can be seen within the wall but the opening which they should create is non-existent!This occurs in teh construct and view drawings.
Here's the catch.... I have a 'West Staircore' and and 'East Staircore'. Both are drawn as individual elements. The West staircore is giving trouble, but the East is perfect. They were both set up using the same DWT file which means that the default display configuration settings should be identical.This is backed up by the fact that they view correctly in the live element drawings.
When they are both Xrefed into the same construct, one is fine and the other will not display in the 3D model!

AutoCAD Architecture :: Drag And Drop Model Space View To Sheet?
Oct 27, 2011We're testing some new machines running Windows 7 64-bit with both AutoCAD Architecture 2011 and 2012 64-bit installed.
When dragging and dropping a model space view onto a sheet, instead of the folder with paperclip symbol, we're getting a circle with a line through it prohibited symbol. This only occurs when our project files are on our network. When we use them on a local machine this does not occur.
We cannot drag and drop onto new sheets either.

We are running on a Novell Linux Open Enterprise Server network. We previously had a problem with not being able to open any sheets if another drawing was open, which we resolved by disabling Novell File Caching. We are also now experiencing unhandled e06d7363h exception errors with any type of file access in the Project Navigator. This crashing also does not occur when the files are on the local machine.
AutoCAD Architecture :: Usually Visual Style Behavior When Switching Between Model And Layout Tabs
Aug 20, 2010I have just started working with Architecture 2011, so perhaps there is some strange issue at work here, but I haven't come across it previous releases. Whenever I switch from model tab (in 2D wireframe) to a layout tab and then back to model space, the visual style automatically switches itself to "Wireframe" or "3D Parallel Project", instead staying 2D Wireframe. It is highly annoying as I have to hit the 2D Wireframe button on the Visual Style Menu everytime a switch. This also occurs everytime a hit the Save button. It won't stay put in the visual style that it should.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Creating Text In Model Space It Appears Both Mirrored And Rotated 90 Degrees To The Horizontal
Oct 11, 2011When creating text in model space it appears both mirrored and rotated 90 degrees to the horizontal. However, when I create text in paper space it is fine. I have tried looking at the properties for the text but although I can find a place to rotate the text back to the horizontal it is still mirrored and therefore unreadable.
When I copy paste stuff from one document to another this also occurs.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: Exporting DEM Surface (terrain) Data As Shape
Nov 8, 2013I am rarely new to map 3d. What I would like to do is to export 3 dem surface in any kind of format, so that I could open it in 3d max.
I know how to generate Contours, but when I export them to dwg and later open in autocad architecture there are missing info on z coordinate - so everything is flat.
Is there some way to make .3ds file or .dwg file so that would really look like a 3d terrain in ACAD architecture or 3d max?

Mar 15, 2012When you use the Spacing command to set the work canvas grid spaciing, it requires that you pick a point in the drawing and then enter the value? Shouldn't it just prompt you for a value? Seems like a bug maybe. Am I missing a settings or something?
