Every time I open my drawing (which includes an XR ) I have to go through and freeze several layers of the XR file (mostly hatch/shading layers). When I save and reopen, these shading layers are back unfrozen again and I have to go through and freeze them.
Is there a procedure to keep individual XR shadings off after saves?
I would like to know how to write a routine to thaw all layers in current drawing and multiple xrefs; then freeze all, then thaw only certain layers globally for a drawing that is open. Such as a dimension plan will thaw only *-BLDG, *-DIMS, *-RD-*, *BNDRY.
I would like to create one that will fit every project which has a different xref name.
I'm working with alot of overlapped x-refs and every layer for each x-ref will come in to the drawing. When I'm using the viewports I need to freeze all the layers for some x-refs that don't need to show in that viewport. Since each x-ref has well over 70 layers I am wondering if there is a simple way to freeze all the x-ref layers in the viewport.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn AutoCAD, I can go on the tray menu and select the scale list and select custon scales. I get the entire list I created and able to make and delete scales.
When I do the exact same thing in AutoCAD Civil 3D, it freezes up and won't let me do anyting, I then hit esc and I can start working in the drawing again.

I am creating multiple sheets in my drawing by adding plot layouts using templates and then adding multiple viewports to those premade templates through Autodesk. I have created multiple viewports on the one layout page and successfully was able to freeze appropriate layers to display the data I wanted in each viewport. Now with my new plot layout, all the layers again are showing, once I freeze the layers I don't want in the view port of the new plot layer....all the layers freeze in my previous plot . How do I retain my settings in the previous plot layout but continue the setup of appropriate layers in the new plot layout.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running the new auto cad civil 3d 2014, downloaded from the design suite premium. I have left all of the programs installed (as a I saw that a few people chose to uninstall several of the programs). I am running auto cad on an @xi workstation, 4.1ghz processor, 16gb corsair vengence heatspred ram, 240gb ssd operating drive, 2tb storage raid 0 configuration storage drives, NVIDIA K2000 graphics card. It took me a while to configure the graphics settings within auto cad due to the high resolution, text is being portayed as small in some cases, commands are huge in others.
I am still adjusting all of those, however my real problem is that when I open certain drawings the program immediatly goes to not responding, and when I am working back and forth and trying to open multiple drawings it does the same. Just opening the program off of my desktop on a cold-start up takes maybe 15 seconds to be fully functional, the same with certain drawings. However others just seem to not want to be opened. This occurs with drawings large and small. Some large drawings open perfectly while some small ones crash, and vice versa. What could be the cause of this?
I want to create a Layer Filter that excludes both Civil Layers and Xrefs.
I have created one that excludes Civil objects (Excel Civil.jpg) but when I add a filter for excluding xrefs as well the Civil objects appear in the filter again indeed all the layers are included again (Excel Xref.jpg) if I invert the filter nothing is displayed.
What is the use of layers in civil 3D,I can do anythings using layers.

When i Export the drawing to PDF format through the plot command and choose the DWG to pdf, some of the layers not appear in PDF file and some of them appear.
is there is any command that i can control the appearance of the layer in the PDF file.
I have a bunch of feature lines defining some building footprints and what not. They are on different layers for each possible design I am considering. Whenever I freeze any of the feature lines, they all turn off, eventhough they are on different layers? What is the problem?

I have more than 100 alignments of a road network in Civil 3d. I want to assign separate layer for each alignment. Is there any easy way to do this?
I changed the layers for a few alignments and exported them to Autocad 2007 format, but the centrelines were in single layer only.

I have just upgraded to 2012 and I get a brief freeze when I enter a command such as line.
It only appears to happen when dynamic input is on or while I am in ortho mode. It seems to freeze while computing the coordinates for displaying. I have looked up the help files on direct entry thinking it might be linked to that but that didn't find any solution.
I am going through our Civil 3D template and purging all layers we do not use. However, there are four assembly layers AutoCAD won't let me delete, but I cannot find any style or object referencing them. If it matters, the layers are C-ROAD-ASSM, C-ROAD-ASSM-BLIN, C-ROAD-ASSM-OFFS, and C-ROAD-SCTN-DIAG.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working on the template for my company and making all the styles, labels, etc all consistent to our company standards. This also includes our standards layer names. There are 2 layers that I can't get rid of because they are in use somewhere. C-ROAD-CNTR-STAN and O_PROF-VIEW-TEXT both of these layers do not meet our standards and I can't get rid of them. I went through every style and label to see if I could find where they were being used, but couldn't find them anywhere. I made sure I check the layers for plan, profile, model and section on the display tab of each style.
Since there are so many styles to go through I wanted to try to narrow it down, so I started a new drawing from the template. I purged all of the styles, purged the layers, but they were still there. I set the object layers all to 0. I made sure that every label style default setting was also set to 0. Then I even created all new styles and labels for everything, did a "replace with" and made sure only the new styles were in use, removed the old styles and did a purge. But these layers still are being used somewhere. I tried using LAYTRANS to translate them into the 0 layer, but it doesn't work. There are no blocks in the drawing that are using these layers.
The only command that works to get rid of them is LAYDEL, but doing that makes me concerned that a setting may not have a layer set up for it and it may cause problems in the future.
Attached is a dwg file that I have stripped down as described above. I am using Civil 3D 2012, SP 2. Where a layer is in use? How you can now find where a style is in being referenced?
The name of layers of surface elements,
I’m not sure if there is a smart way to know the name of the layer of surface elements (attached). For example, the surface may contain major contour, minor contour, boundary, etc. how one can know their layers to edit them. Is this done by trial and error?!
Also, I’m not sure how the size, color and orientation of the contour text is controlled

For example if I make a building pad using the grading tool and create a surface for a design. I would like the minor and major contours to be on different layers. Same for my grading I would like my cut daylight boundary to go to a CG-Cut and fill daylight boundary to go to CG-Fill layers. Is there a way to do this? It would really streamline my work designing pads.

I've got all my surfaces from those site designs on different layers each displayed in a different layout. I need to label existing contours on each layout in different places. I've setup additional contour label styles (two for each design, major, and minor) and layers (two for each design, major, and minor). However, when I add labels to my existing surface, they come in on the right layer, but whenever I freeze any of the many layers my contour labels are on, they all turn off. The only workaround I can figure is to make copies of my existing surface for each design option and label each independantly. However, this is inacceptable as far as data management goes, since my one file will be hundreds of megs with all those surfaces.

We have our pipe networks living in a master file that is XREF'd to our sheet files. Now, the pipe and structure objects are all the layer C-PNET. The style for the pipes is comprised of the layers C-STRM-PIPE (for pipe walls) and C-STRM-PIPE-PATT (for the center line that is the width of the pipe). When I go into the XREF I cannot freeze OR change the color of the layers comprising the pipe style even though they are all set to ByLayer in the style dialog. The only way to freeze the network is to freeze the layer the pipe network is on C-PNET. However, this presents other problems with our file setup and we dont want to universally freeze C-PNET.
why we cant freeze the portions of the pipe network that are defined in the style as being on C-STRM-PIPE, and C-STRM-PIPE-PATT? If so, how do we remedy this?
“Locking” the layers state (turned on/of frozen/thawed/ locked/unlocked, etc.) in the viewport,
I’m wondering if there is a technique that allows locking the “state” of layers (turned on/of frozen/thawed/ locked/unlocked, etc.) in the viewport mode such that the viewport will keeps its required state REGARDLESS THEIR STATE IN THE MODEL MODE!
For example, in the screenshot below, freezing the point in the model mode will also freeze them in the viewport! And thus the layer state are not kept as required in the viewport which adds more efforts.
One possible option is saving the layer state! But this feature is not a property for the viewport but needs to be selected from the layers option. And thus we need again to think about layers that are supposed to be turned on/of frozen/thawed/ locked/unlocked, etc. in a particular viewport.
What I need here is to LOCK the viewport not only in terms of scale but also regarding the state of layers!

I have Note label Style objects and Marker Style Objects that have layers assigned to them. When I bring a Note label or Marker Style into the drawing, it comes in on the zero layer. I know that the object layers of the drawing settings are controlling this. Is it possible to have the Note labels and/or Markers come in on the assigned layers of their Styles?
I would like to make my "Layers" Ribbon wider so that I can read more of the layer name that what is currently shown. Where do I find this option in the CUI?

For example, if i were to copy the dwg into folder A and copy a dwg into folder B. I would then update the master dwg with either a layer color change or linetype or add a layer / label etc, could those changes from the master be (linked) or a child or the parent master dwg? Or does this work with dwts?

I have created a drawing template in C3D with layers, blocks, descriptor keys and all the fun stuff, but this was just for the survey section of the engineering group I work with. Now the engineers, who had another template set up with design layers which they don't use but may want to use, asked me if I can add their layers to my template. The have about 2000 layers and I do not want to manually add this information. Is there any way I can either export their layers or merge the layers?
