AutoCAD Architecture :: Ceiling Grid Using Space Boundary?
Jan 23, 2012Is there an easy way to use space to generate a ceiling grid. My predicament is that when I create a space, the lines show up in Medium Detail and I have to switch to Reflected display configuration to see the grid. But when I am putting in the grid it asks me to choose the space, which is now not visible. Unless I change the display configuratiion, is there a way to pick the space while in the reflected display configuration.
Or better yet, is there a way to create a script that will toggle the space display on and off while in reflected.

While in a view I make a "New Model Space View". After I tag this MSV it seems that being able to see the border of each MSV that is in my view dwg would be a useful thing. Is there anyway to turn this boundary on?
AutoCAD Architecture :: Using Detail Boundary And Model Space Views?
Apr 8, 2013I'm using project navigator and I want to use the intelligent title marks created by the Mode Space View drawing that is created when I use the Detail Boundary.
I have purchased a 5 hour block of support time on this and after 4 days they have not found a result for me and are looking to developers at this point.
My issue is this. I xref in the floor plan that I want to use to make some enlarged floor plan details out of. I have a custom high detail display configuration set for this view drawing. I use the detial boundary tool that adds the detail boundary and tag and then created my model space view with an intelligent titlemark that will then reflect the number and sheet when inserted into a sheet drawing.
The problem is trying to get this MSV to reflect what I see on the floor plan. As of now it just brings in a enlarged detail of the area but it's all the same color with no hatch detail.
I can change the result of what I get by selecting the “model space view” that I created and then going to properties and changing the “display controlled by” on the display tab of the properties of that object. If I change that to “Drawing default setting” then the result is set to whatever the drawing default settings are. It looks like the “default settings” for a 2D Section/Elevation object are “General” Display Representations.
how to get my custom “Bew_High Detail” display representation to be the default Display Representation of the “2D Section/Elevation” object then I think I would get my desired results.
AutoCAD Architecture :: Paper Space Schedule Tag An Object Nested Inside Xref?
May 2, 2012We've been working with adding schedule tags in paper space for objects nested within an xref. The first time you do this however, the manual properties (it seems) do not update if the value of the manual property is changed back in the xref dwg. However, the Automatic properties do seem to update.
When we initially found this we past it off as a limitation. However, one of our users was experimenting and found that the first time you tag the xref resident object... the schedule tag reads the correct manual properties value. However, If you remove the property set from the schedule tag... then the manual property will update correctly showing the current value as it is back in the xref dwg even if it is changed.
This makes complete sense as the manual property set data can be edited from either the tag or the object or from the schedule... IF THE TAG and the object are resident in the same drawing file - in this case you DO NOT want to delete the property set from the tag... if you do this the property set is also removed from the object. However, when tagging objects nested within an xref, then you need to remove the property set from the tag... THEN the manual property will update correctly.

Mar 23, 2010I'm using AutoCAD 2008 and trying to make a smart ceiling grid using the tools palette. The tool runs fine, however my grid doesn't show up in my drawing. I checked all my layers and they're fine. I think my ceiling grid visibility display is turned off.
Any command to turn it on? Checked the product, it gives me options to turn it on/off when it's already visible in a view, but this doesn't work since I can't see it at all.

I switched to the work tab, that has a 3-d view and there is the grid. I cannot find what I did alter its visibility in model space.

The build panel is now there, but it is not working. All the icons are questions marks and when I click on the ceiling grid icon it says 'unknown command'. Feb 1, 2012after discovering zones and the space evaluation tool I wonder whether it is possible to customise the XLS output further by also reading out information from a property set attached to the space?
The office standard is to have a property set attached to each space that defines a room number (which is the level ID plus a number, say G-01), the area and the space name.
We used to simply schedule the areas with a schedule table. That only gives us net rooms, no subtotals per department (or say per flat) and no grandtotal.So we got as far as using zones grouping the spaces in each flat.
Now I need an area schedule XLT template that also displays the room number from the space's property set and the schedule grouped in a fashion that I get subtotals per flat (=my zones) in another column and a grandtotal.Playing with the Space evaluation tool I seem to only ever get Room/ zone names and their areas.

Jun 12, 2013I have a model space with a few XREF drawings. I have a layout with a viewport of these drawings. All seemed fine until I imported another drawing using XREF. I went to adjust this viewport and it is not showing the new drawing that has been imported into model space (I can see the three drawings that were there but the new one will not appear) to you have to like "reload" a viewport or something? (From my understanding viewports alwasys stay current with model space)

Nov 9, 2012i need to know if there is any way to control the points in the point cloud.
1. either only import the point cloud in a polyline area i specify
2. add all the points within a boundary not limited to the pointclouddensity = 100, freaking default is 15 almost cost my job today. extremely stressed out right now.
i am talking about extreme lidar surveys. 1km 1km LAS/0.5m contours/xyz files times 355 of them. covers a 2km wide corridor. but i only need 100m wide after i define the road alignment. no need to have all the extra points.
right now i densify the heck out of it and end up like 5-12m points. decent but not good enough because the geotech is bitching about that accuracy is not good for some feasibility study. or is there any software i can do this besides civil 3d.
what i want can also do is automate the 'add points to surface" under point cloud and have the software do multiple boundaries without having me baby it over the night. right now every click is 5 minutes and adds like 400k to 1 million points. Civil 3D 2012

Jul 26, 2013I'm using Autocad 2010, and have never had this problem before. Working in plan, the traced linework over 2 xref pdfs (both on locked layers) keeps moving in model space either when I'm performing another command on different linework or when I regen. The layers that keep moving are all locked, and do the same when they're frozen. There is no consistency to where they move--usually within the same screen view--so it makes me wonder whether I xrefed these files into a different plane? They're not georeferenced though.
Or is this just a bug? I thought the file may be corrupted so started a new one, still same issue.
AutoCAD Architecture :: Xref Display And Cut Planes
Aug 14, 2013Using PN, I set up 2 levels. Level 1 at 0'-0", Level 2 at 10'-0". I create a Level 1 construct and create my AEC model. I then create my Level 2 construct and xref my Level 1 construct in to use as an underlay. However, using OOTB Medium display configuration I cannot see the Level 1 xref because the Level 2 cut plane is at 3'-6" and the Level 1 construct is 10'-0" below this cut plane. Is this the intended result?
To allow me to see my Level 1 xref in my Level 2 construct, I am required to override the global cut plane in my Level 1 construct and set my wall cut planes, for *each* wall style, to 3'-6". After saving the Level 1 construct, I reload in the Level 2 construct, and the walls appear, as an underlay, in the Level 2 construct as desired.
Is this the only way to see one xref above or below the other? Isnt one of the major advantages of using xrefs is as underlays for stacking levels?I dont have to override the global cut plane in all my wall styles.

Mar 5, 2013ACA2011.I've got a construct that for some reason has 2 xrefs listed within it that I can't detach. It says that it is unresolved and when I try to detach it it says "c_Floor Plan - First" has multiple references, Not detached." This is one of two xrefs in the drawing doing this...how is it possible to have an xref of the same name in the drawing? I can't figure out how to detach it. It was causing problems in the view to which it was referenced, and I solved it by creating a bogus, blank construct called "test" and changed the path of the xref in the construct to this drawing...but I still can't detach it.

Jul 26, 2012When I set the background mask to "yes" for text or dims it does mask out the xref as long as I set the cursor on the text / dim. When I move the cursor off the text / dim, the xref reappears, so when I print, the text is illegible due to the background walls etc.

Aug 7, 2012i have a structural xref drawing that has all the text 10"high. I xref (overlay) that drawing into another one, but that drawing is going to have a scale 1/4"=1'-0" is there a way to auto scale all the text in to xref to become 4" high?

the structural drawing that im xrefing in will be overlayed over my floorplans, then printed at the 1/4"=1'-0"
I need the structural base drawing to keep the 10" text height because some times i have to print off the entire structural plan separate.

Feb 7, 2012All I want to do is trace on top of an x-ref elevation. The x ref hides all my new lines so I cannot see what I've just drawn. Even the display order has no effect, not that I want to use the display order every time I draw a line. I just want my new black lines to show up on top of the faded xref image.

Apr 20, 2011I've been using XCLIP for years. Never had an issue.
Today I installed 2012 and found that the ability to stretch and edit XCLIP boudaries had finally been added. SWEET!....wrong.
I was working merrily along when all of a sudden my screen blinked, refreshed, or something, and 80% of the lines within my XCLIP boundaries just disappeared.
I closed the drawing and reopened. Closed ACA and reopened. Rebooted and reopened. Gone.
If I delete the XCLIP, it all comes back. Apply a new XCLIP, gone again.
Open the drawing in ACA2011, still gone. EGADS!
Is this a totally new problem???
It literally took less than an hour after installing to find a problem in ACA 2012. My Autodesk woes continue.

May 18, 2012I am using Autocad LT 2013 and Autocad Architecture withing the same office. When I open a file that has an Xref from Autocad Architecture with 3D walls in Autocad LT, the walls only show as 1 line instead of 2. If I open the orginal file that the Xref came from, with Autocad LT the walls show up just fine (as blocks instead of 3d walls as I expected). I am hoping to be able to veiw the Xrefs correctly in Autocad LT.
