View 5 RepliesI'd like to know how can i join these objects. I'm trying to use PEDIT command but no success. The objects are not touching so it's not possible?
How can i join two objects that aren't touching each other
OBJECTS.jpg
I want to join a couple of lines with arcs. Unfortunately I have got a dxf created with CATIA. When I try to join them with pedit it does not work.
If I move the end point of the circle away and snap it back to the line, I can join them. Blending the Curves together is working (this shouldn't if the endpoints match, right?)
You can see it in this screenshot:
(On the left the circle and line are joined after I snapped them together, on the right they are connected using "Blend Curves" as you notice the tiny white connection)
So here it leads to my question:
Those lines seem not to be lying end to end together so I can join them. Is there a function to snap them together or to automatically ignore/fill such a little gap?
I used the "break" command to split some lines into segments, but now I can not join them again using PEDIT. They are all on the same elevation. What is preventing me from joining them? I've attached the file in question, I'm trying to join the red (metal layer) lines.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am joining plines on the same layer, etc. I was taught to use PEDIT-Join but noticed that I can do the same function with just the JOIN command. Is there any difference? Is one better/safer to use?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to extrude a circle around a path in all dimensions, so I drew my path in lines, filleted the corners then tried to join using the PEDIT - Join command.
Firstly, the join says something like "2 segments added to 2 polylines" when really all I want is 1 polyline.
Second, when I try to insert my circle for extrusion I OSNAP to the end of the line, then when I specify the radius it draws in the wrong plane. So far the only way I have gotten around it is rotating the ucs. Is there an easy way to do this? my Dynamic UCS is on.
I Wonder if it's possible, with a setting or something like this, to make the join command work only on lines or polylines that had the same linetype?

The command to JOIN two overlapping anchor points as a SMOOTH join is not working (at least, on Mac).
"The join option only results in a corner join regardless of whether you select anchor points to join or the entire path. However, for overlapping anchor points, if you want the option to select a smooth or corner join, then use Ctrl+Shift+Alt+J (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+Option+J (Mac OS)."
when ever I enter pedit command, and I move into model space to select polylines to join, my curser/pointer disappears? I can not select any lines because I no longer have the little square box to select lines showing. I have nothing at all. When I move out of model space, my white select arrow reappears?

This has been occuring since installing 2013 and it's not just on my computer, our other drafter has the same issue. Once it happens on one drawing it effects all open drawings and the only thing I have been able to do to get rid of it is to close out all drawings and restart AutoCAD. Attached is a screen shot since its' hard to describe.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSomething I'd like to see fixed (or find out how) is when using the start New File icon, if you select the icon itself, you are directed to the templates folder of the active project, but if you select the "Pull Down" arror next to the icon, you are taken to the Inventor Standard default templates which are typically not used.
I see numerous users unknowingly selecting those default templates and not noticing until they've started entering dims, etc. They get very upset at having to make sure they select the icon and question as to why it would be different.
Same deal if one is to select the Inventor Icon in the far left upper corner (this is more common than the users selecting the pull down) and then select "New", again, they are shuttled to the default templates and not the associated project file templates...why?

When I initiate the trim command with a double enter (i.e. select all mode), I usually first zoom into the area I want to trim so I see no other objects, then start the trim <Enter><Enter> option, then pick the lines I want to trim. Even if these extend off the screen and cross other objects (not seen on the screen), they usually trim off completely. However, on occassion they don't. To replicate the problem try this:
Draw 2 vertical lines and 2 horizontal intersecting (like noughts and crosses)Draw a horizontal line that intersects both vertical lines but up near the top of those linesZoom in so you only see the square and extending lines (but not the short horizontal line)Trim <Enter> <Enter> and pick from bottom right to top left (i.e. around the squareZoom out.
The square is trimmed, however there are 2 line fragments left above the horizontal short line.
Fix: UndoTrim the same way and presto, it now works I found if I then moved the line above (so only a small amount), zoomed in again, tried to trim - same error.
Is there a way to display more "lines" at the command line?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI produce a lot of "Exploded View" style drawings for our equipment for assembly drawings and Operators Manuals. I model everything in 3D, set the perspective view, adjust the view I like, then use the Flatshot command to make 2D lines and arcs verions of the view to put into paperspace. Then item bubbles, notes, whatever. as of the last week, my flatshots, if they include a hex bolt head in the view, the arcs on the faces of the flats will be really stretched and skewed decidley toward the vanishing point in the completion of the Flatshot command. It does not happen on other arcs that may be in the model, seems to be exclusive with the hex. I doesn't happen if I do not make the view pespective but leave it "Parallell".
View 9 Replies View RelatedJoining lines into polylines in autocad 2007. Basically, I got stuck when joining several lines together using PEDIT and then Join. At the start, it was very smooth process with no drama. Then, I came across two polylines and wanted to join them together, it just did not work. It works most of the time. Why I can't join certain lines together or two polylines together. This is a 2D drawing CAD.

Sometimes when I am filleting lines they end up joining together like a Polyline. Is there a setting I can turn off that will not allow lines to join when filleting?
View 3 Replies View RelatedNormally i Join lines and fillets to become a polyline and no problems
But sometimes when i Join them it turns them into a Spline which i dont want.
Then i have to convert it into a polyline and it then it adds load of points/grips on the line which i dont want.
Is there a setting that stops the lines converting to a spline
Im creating plans for a new entryway and so that I have some perspective on how it will all join together i'm also creating a 3d model of my entry idea. In order to move things around to get a better view of how im planning on building this entry, I joined studs together so that I can move things around in the viewport without having to select each object. I know I can grab all the objects at the same time to move but I was wondering IF there is a way to union objects so that they dont lose the lines between joining objects. For example if 2 - 2x8 studs are next to each other and I were to union them, then they would plot as a 4 x 8 instead of 2 - 2 x 8's OR is there a way to maintain lines after union?

I have an inside web plate sketch that i want to offset but my offset does only do one line at a time.
So my problem basicly is that I want it to do the whole sketch in one click. Is it possible to join all the lines? or is there another function that I do not know of that will do this for me.
Attached is photos of the problem I have

how to join line or polylines with ellipse arcs or circle arcs and now.. I give up! Here is my problem: What I would like to draw can be compared with a pear: a succession of circle arcs ellipse arcs and maybe polylines. Once the profile done, I was planning to use REVOLVE or (EXTRUDE + FLLET) to finish my drawing... the problem is that I can't join 2 ellipse arcs from different ellipses (which means neither with a circle arc. How would you proceed to draw a pear?

Do you need to use the join command on an object before making it into a dynamic block? I have these stairs I need to scale down to fit my floorplan, but when I place grips on it in order to scale them down, I can only scale of the block while the rest becomes totally distorted.
View 3 Replies View Related3 lines. 2 arcs. All coplanar, all meet end-to-end.
I set "Units/precision" to 0.00000000 and inspected them. They are all x=0 for each endpoint, therefore coplanar. I also did a point "ID" command and checked each endpoint approaching from both sides and confirmed that each pair of results was identical, so all the ends meet exactly.
I was under the impression that Join or at least PEDIT should be able to combine coplanar lines/arcs that all meet end to end into a polyline. Also, using the Express Tool's "FLATTEN" command doesn't work.
The reason I'm doing this is because I've drawn lines/arcs that trace along the midpoint of a sheet metal's material thickness, and this sheet metal has two bends in it and isn't flat anymore, so converting the lines/arcs to a single polyline will tell me how long the flat plate needs to be that will be ordered to create it.
I have two halves of a rod that I want to join. They're both objects. What's the best way to fill in the gap between the two halves of the rod? It currently looks like this:
Using the LOFT command obviously just creates a surface between them, however, it doesn't become one model.
