View 3 RepliesUsing someone elses template. When I plot to PDF the layout sheet name is not the PDF plot file name, it uses the drawing file name (and hence the same file name for all plots, not what I want). When I plot in paper space, my layout sheet name is the output file name, is there a way to change this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedAs the layout tabs I'd like to have a multiple model-views tabs.
I can use layouts tabs, I can change the background color to same as model tab and all its ok.
However I'm unable to set scale to have text and annotation with a "human" size (that is, thinking on my screen and not on the paper).
Maybe this is a newbie question but I'm lost....
What is what I must to set ? I dont want to use layout to print, but to view my drawing with custom layer settings.

Restore my Model and Layout Tabs at the bottom of the Drawing area. I went to Options/Display Tab, and under the pannel of "Layouts elements" the box of "Display Layout and Model Tabs" is checked, yet, I can't witness this diplayed. Even if I have to toggle something to make it hidden and displayed, where is the place for that? See the pictures of my settings and the Drawing area.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to export a layout to a new model -as a new drawing-. I did ths after bind all the X-ref files and explode them all then with "Export layout to new model" command from the right click menu on Layout tab. But the file is slightly big, the file has more than about 105 layout , the AutoCAD gets hang and after about 10-15 mins it shows a dialogue box contents"Unhandelled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click continue the application will ignore this and attempt to continue" I clicked on "Continue" and a file has been created with 0 bites. And that file cannot be opened.

i know that it took me a while to perfect my settings the last time i set up a new version, but i am struggling to work it out now.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy group and I are getting an infrequent but annoying problem with Model Documentation (MD) generated views in paperspace layout tabs. We all on autocad 2013, with sp1.1 installed on x64 machines.
We are seeing objects/ blocks showing in the MD views (viewbase created) in the layout that are no longer in model space. One common factor in this is that these objects seem to always be externally referenced (xref) files that have been either unloaded or completely detached (both cases purges preformed afterwards to wipe any remaining blocks made no difference). In this latest case the ghost objects show up twice (we needed 2 of the same xref) at what appears to be the correct old coordinates.
We have no work around for this and when this occurs we either have to revert to an older version from vault or create a new dwg, port all information over and recreate all views. The interesting thing about this problem is that if we revert to an older version from vault, the ghosts do not reappear/ reoccur at the same commands they appeared at previously.
I am having difficulty with the text in my drawings. When writing dtext or dimensions on my drawings in modelspace the text appears rough/rugged in both model space and layout space. I am using True Type (Arial) as the font. I've read older posts where people have suggested checking in Properties that the text is really laying down at 0 in the Z plane which it is. Some say using True Type is the problem, but just last week I was doing what seemed to be the same operation and I had no problems at all.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been using AutoCAD 2014 for a couple of weeks now and there seems to be a problem when switching from the model tab to the layouts.
This is the problem i have: I draft my plans in model space as usual, once i finish that, i want to go to the layout tab
where the titleblock is and modify its attributes. When switching, AutoCAD crashes, it allows me to save a recovery file but it closes the program completley.
I have submited the error report to AutoDesk but i have not seen any other comments about it.
my plot file names don't include the drawing name, only the layout name. it used to include the drawing name. i must have changed something but i don't what.

I want to export a layout as a dwg file. Why do I want to do this? I got a drawing, and they put some stuff on the layout, so I want to export the layout so I can then work in the new file in the model area? Do you get what I mean?
Also, If I make a layout, I put my Firm Logo and information in the layout. If I send this to another firm, which isnt using Autocad, they than can only see the model area, so If I can export it into 1 file, in the model area, they cann see the whole thing.
I'm trying to import a drawing from a dwt file into a drawing as a new layout. This would be perfect if the model space objects associated with this dwt file would import as well.
View 9 Replies View Related“annotation scale” on the lay out mode,
I’m not sure about the current “annotation scale” in case of lay out mode.
Annotation scale option is displayed only in the model and viewport mode but not in the lay out mode (attached)!
Based on what annotative objects living on the lay out but neither in the model (or viewport) are re-sized? At this mode, there is no option to choose the annotation scale?
On other words, how to choose the annotation scale in the lay out mode?
I have several objects on various layers in model space and they are exposed through a viewport in a paperspace layout. I also have a corporate CTB plot style.
Here is my problem: If i plot the objects from model space, they all plot with the correct lineweights as defined in our corporate CTB, but when i plot them from the paperspace layout, some but not all objects plot with a heavier lineweight than what is defined in the CTB.
I thought the CTB was supposed to override any settings applied to individual objects, but more importantly, why the different results, on the same objects, depending upon the space from which they're plotted?
I need to plot a drawing with a few plans, which are in 2D but also a 3D model of the intire installation and a few side views, which are side views of the 3D model. When I plot the drawing I am able to get the side views in black and white by taking the following steps:(i got these steps from this post: URL....
- set the visual style (in model space) to hidden or wireframe.
- in the layout you select a viewport that conntains a 3D visualisation and double click in that window to set the visual style to 2D wireframe and also set the viewports shade plot to hidden.
because the plotter is black and white only I see those side views in different shades of grey but the problem is that the difference in grey isn't clear enough (and yellow pipes are hardly visible) and I can't adjust these. When adjusting the .ctb it only affects the 2D views and not the 3D views.
It is possible to change the greyness by changing the color of the diffent pipes that are in the drawing but this is not a desired option by the client.how to alter the shades of grey in 3D visualisations so that not all pipelines look the same .I attached a file of what the plot preview looks like and another of what the actual plot looks like
Having an issue where the .ctb works in some paper space tabs and not in others. When we do the plot preview on one tab the line weight is correctly shown, and when we go to a different tab, the preview displays colors and no line weight. We tried this on two separate machines both running the same operating system, AutoCad 2013 and using the same .ctb.. We tried creating a new copy of the ctb. There must be a setting that is different in the viewports, but I can not figure out what it is.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs it a proper way of copy some details or layout from DXF files to CAD file? I received multiple(10 files, 2.5mb average) DXF file from source, and they need to input some layout of it to the base CAD Drawing file.My CAD file became huge (around 40mb) when I copy some of the layout from DXF. Do I need to save DXF file into CAD file before I copy some of their layout to get a lower file? I need to send the CAD file to the source for their copy.

this has occured on more computers around the office which is making me think it might not be the autocad
I've attempted to plot the contents of a ctb file using any one of the 'export to csv' routines floating around the web however what i'd like to include (an never seem to manage) is an actual display of the colour represented by the pen (you will of course realise i am referring to a ctb file rather than stb).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an AutoCAD drawing (I did not create it) of a proposed trail in my city, and I've been tasked with making some kind of model or render of a section of it. I'm at a loss for how to even start, unfortunately. In the end I would like to have an accurate 3D model of a boardwalk section of the trail with surrounding terrain. I have Sketchup, Google Earth, and Revit at my disposal.
My first problem is topography. When I import the CAD drawing to Revit it seems there is some topographical data, which will be needed to realistically build the boardwalk on top of. I was able to get the terrain of the area into Sketchup from Google Earth, but then I don't know exactly where to build the model.
I've attached an image of a floor I created in the outline of the boardwalk. The area in question begins at the two handicap parking stalls (represented as the two blue towers for some hilarious reason) and ends at the second square (a viewing platform). My preferred method would be get an accurate topograhic site in Revit, build the boardwalk, and then place surrounding vegetation so I can get some renders.
EDIT: I've attached "Screenshot 2" which shows I found I was able to create terrain in Revit by selecting a layer of the CAD file. However that layer is suspended above, and my placeholder floor is underneath. Now I just need to get the floor (representing the boardwalk) to go along the terrain.
i got for a project some files (in the pic below) wich i actually can use for an 3D model ( geodate's). Problem is, i dont know how i can use/open them to generate an 3D Model. How to figure out which programm I can use this files or how i can use them in AutoCAD?
View 1 Replies View Relatedcreate a 3D model using a .dxf file?
.dxf file contains 3D contour lines.
when importing it to Autocad 3D 2013 is shown as a colum instead of a 3D model.
Say I have a model and some layouts in a file.
I open the file to the model. My RAM usage is about 33%. Next, I open the first layout and my usage climbs to 43%. I open the second layout and my usage climbs to 52%. I open the third layout and my usage climbs to 62%.
I can go back and view the layouts already opened marginally faster then when first opening them, and my RAM usage will not increase.
If I continue to open new layouts, my computer will spend all its RAM holding these and freeze. My computer will suspend graphical processing and be forced to run on sips of RAM until all active commands are finished. But RAM usage will never decrease.
I have been working with my Windows Task Manager open in the corner, watching this happen. This way, I can save and close the file to clear the RAM and then proceed to reload the file and continue working on my file with 34 layouts.
I do not know if it is a function of storing the UNDO functions, or just how the program is designed, but this is a problem for me.
QUESTION
Is there a way to clear the UNDO or layout memory without closing and reloading the file? I do not have to close AutoCAD - just the file.
ATTACHEMENT
The attachement is a screenshot of my Task Manager.
I started with TM, browser, and AutoCAD open (I had already started writing this post)
I opened the file to the model.
Opened up 6 layouts (you can see the bumps)
Saved (you can see the tiny rise)
Closed the file, but not AutoCAD (precipitous drop ;] )
Lastly, I reloaded the file.

I received a drawing today that doesn't allow me to choose existing ".ctb" files. Opening the "Plot style table (pen assignments)" from the Page Setup dialogue box. I can choose "Start from scratch" , use a "CFG" file, or "Use a PCP or PC2" file". I do not have any CFG files. I usually use PCP in my "Plot" dialogue box for the plotter pull-down menu.
How to use my plot style "BRhalf.ctb" when plotting this drawing. Also, a "heads-up" on background information on this drawing's plot style options, vs. the plot style options on many other drawings I have plotted.
I'd like to export AutoCAD file from a model built in 3Ds Max to get some engimeering drawings(as below) But the dwg file export from 3Ds Max is always with the wireframe(as the last one)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI`ve been trying to create a new drawing template in autocad 2013, I have saved it as a dwt file as suggested . When i go to open the new template the first thing i notice is that the thumb nail has a black ground , while the other templates that came with autocad have a white background !...when i open the dwt file it opens like a normal dwg file in model space not in paper space. the dwt file behaves as just a normal file .
