When opening non native dwg files (exports say from solidworks) it doesn't bring the file into the correct areas in relation to the model being in the model space, drawings being in the paper space and not just pasting into Autocad from the non native file.

We recently updated all of our software at my company from 2010 architectural desktop to 2013 autocad. We do a lot of architectural work where we use the "wall" functions to draw our floorplans. I have noticed that the walls are disappearing on some files and not on others. Or we will only be able to see the outside line of the wall, but not the interior, which results in an undesirable appearance to the floorplans.
I have also run across these error messages when opening the files, I dont know if they are related or not:
"Unhandled exception C0000005 (access violation reading 0xffffffff) at address E43AA180h"
and
"Unhandled exception C0000005 (access violation reading 0xffffffff) at address D41218AEh"
Is it possible to vectorize native PDF files within the AutoCAD 2013 environment. If yes how? Sample PDF file attached.
View 4 Replies View Relateda colleague has 2013 and when he opens a file e.g.. Rob's cottage.dwg it is listed/shown as Drawing 1 in ACAD and if he tries to save he needs to browse to the folder and select the file called Rob's cottage and overwrite.......is this a setting I can't recall?
don't have PC specs handy, but was running fine for 2012 and previous versions (on subscription)
When opening a file, or attaching an external reference, the file dialog box does not always default to the last folder where a file was opened for attached from. It was defaulting to the folder at the top of the list on the left side of the dialog box until I deleted the cloud icon. But, there is still a problem with defaulting to the last path accessed.

I have all of particular files that are referenced, however i cannot open the main file and have them load in 2013. I also cannot click reload or even detach and then reattach them. Nothing happens. However if i open the file in 2012 it opens just fine then i can bind everything into one. is there a setting i need to change?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading the server in our office Autocad 2013 is having trouble opening files. When I attempt to open a file the progress bar gets to about 85%, a "not responding" message comes up for about 15-20 seconds, and then the file opens. Two workstations in the office have AutoCAD 2013, one has 8GB RAM and Windows 7 64 bit, the other has 16GB of RAM and also a WIndows 7 64 bit OS. Neither PC had issues opening files before the new server went in, and neither PC is having problems with any other network program. Is there somewhere within the program or in Autocad's registry entries that might still be pointing to the old server? I have tried the following, Firewall has been turned off, VP has been disabled, repair has been run on the program (through programs and features in the control panel). I have email support through Autocad and sent them an email this morning, but have yet to receive a response.

They told me Inventor fusion is not an easy tool and would prefered to use inventor files.
How can I have my external editor (PS CS4) open my files in their native NEF format and not as a copied PSD or TIFF?
I do not want an edit copy and wish to have the RAW file open in photoshop. I have had this option in thw past, but since installing LR 3 on a new computer can not configure to just open the NEF file in Photoshop.
I have an assembly that was created on 64 bit version of Inventor 2013, the total file size of everything is around 150MB. Even if I use 'Pack and Go' to move the file to another computer running the 32 bit version I get an error when I try to open it which says something like:
'unable to allocate 3GB memory for FBAttributeSegment'
The actually figure is over 3GB but of course on a 32 bit version of windows it is physically impossible to allocate that amount of memory (even with the /3GB in boot.ini hack)
I've performed various dynamic simulations as well as animations within the assembly so I'm thinking that perhaps its trying to allocate that huge amount of memory for a saved state of one of those.
What FBAtributeSegment might be and whether there is any special way to save an assembly to avoid this problem? The name FBAttributeSegment doesn't correspond to any part or assembly names.
I should also add that I have no problem opening it in a 32 bit version of Fusion which again suggests to me that it is something like simulation or animation that is causing this
Now that we have switched most of our users over to 2013, we are receiving this error - only randomly, not on most drawings - but until it is resolved, we cannot batch plot, publish, because it dumps the plot. Here's a clip of the error we're receiving. When I run a Recover, it doesn't resolve the issue.

At this point however, i've designed a small conversion form that can be called by our engineers and allow them to convert between various units. I'd like to have a button though that allows them to call up the Quick Calc application from within AutoCAD. What i'm wondering is how do i actually call a native autoCAD command? Is it possible and if so where could i find documentation on the syntax. For what it's worth i'm working in C# in VS 2010.

My main user folder on the iMac is set to be shared (read/write, including all enclosed files) with my MacBook Pro. The job is a series of one-page InDesign files (they are newspaper advertisements). The IDD files contain a series of Illustrator files with linked PSD files.The idea is that we can both work on the .idd and .ai files in the same folder at the same time.
It's all working fine EXCEPT that whenever an .ai file is opened on the MacBook, Illustrator doesn't know where the linked PSD files are. We can update the link, but when the .ai file is then opened on the iMac and saved, the same thing happens the next time it is opened on the Macbook.
I don't want to embed the PSD files into the .ai files as sometimes I have to modify them and they can be linked to up to 20 .ai files.

I am having problems opening an idw created in the 2013 version on my inventor professional 2014.
The idw contains its own template, views, dimensions, details and cuts.
Upon opening in 2014 to release details of the scale is changed randomly and the views are out of the leaf.
When I open a drawing in Autocad 2014, the drawing name opens as drawing1 or drawing2, etc. The files have been saved with a drawing name, however when I open them after saving they open as a unsaved file.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading/switching my stand alone license from Civil 3D 2011 to Map 3D 2013, my computer is crashing before a complete opening of some larger dwgs (1575 KB). Sometimes I get an Out of Memory message.Other (much smaller) drawings open fine.The switch from Civil to Map was made because we were not using any of the civil bells and whistles that make it unique.
Map suits our needs. We use shp files (data connect) to generate most of our work.I can use another computer in our office that has Map 3D 2011 and am able to open up any of the drawings with no problems. Because I had no issues with Map 3D 2011, I thought moving up to 2013 would be "easy".
We have a subscription and every couple of years try to load up the latest and learn to live with it.Now I am wondering if we can all just go to Map 2011 and forget 2013.
I have AutoCAD Civil 2013 and AutoCAD 2010 installed on my Windows 7 system.
Whenever I double click on a *.dwg file Windows starts up Civil instead of AutoCAD 2010 to open the file. Even if I already have AutoCAD 2010 running.
I went into the Control Panel Associations and attempted to Associate a file type with a specific program. When I pcik the *.dwg file extension the only option that Windows gives me is "AutoCAD Application". I even browsed to the AutoCAD 2010 directory and manually chose acad.exe but Windows just defaulted back to "AutoCAD Application".
Using Autocad - I am not a designer or engineer so have no experience using the software. I am working on a translation of an autocad file. However when I open the document I can only see the 'front page' of the document and Can't find any way to navigate through the different pages (even if I know there should be a lot more than 1 page)
I realise it sounds like a stupid request, but as mentioned, I have no experience with this software.
The user has Autocad 2014 64 bit Service Pack 1 running over Windows 7 Pro. Everything is working fine until she receives .dwg files from a supplier that uses Autocad 2010. When she opens those files, the screen is empty, no crash/freeze, no error message, just a black background. The other opened files are still there in the background.
The only way she can open the file is by asking a colleague, also running Autocad 2010, to open the file and convert it using the WBLOCK command. After the conversion the Autocad 2014 user can open the file without issues.

I have created .dwg drawings in AutoCAD LT 2013 and have found that people with older versions of AutoCAD cannot open them. Is there a generic overall version of AutoCAD that I can save my drawings in that would be accessible to all versions of AutoCAD?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI get an error every time I open any drawing after it has been saved in 2013. Opening a dwg that was created in an earlier version does not give the error, but after I save it in 2013, it does.
If I create a new dwg in 2013, save it, close it and then open it I don't get the error the first time. But then if I save that dwg again, I will get it the next time I open it.
The exact error is:
One error was found in the drawing file during open. Would you like to cancel this open?It is recommended you cancel the open and run the RECOVER command on the drawing file.
I run the recover command. It says it found, fixed, and erased 1 error. I save, close, and reopen the drawing and the error still appears every time.
