I try to sweep along spline that made of elliptical arc and line.
Funny thing that I was able to create a solid few days ago by doing this method. Now I can't!
I tried even reload Autocad.
I am once again trying to get the hang of drawing a 3D spiral staircase and cannot seem to figure out the SWEEP command properly. I have a channel, or a rectangular tube shape which I want to use for the stringers. If I use a round tube, like when I do the handrail, there is no trouble. But when I use a channel or rectangular tube shape the SWEEP command causes the shape to bank and I end up with an unuseable shape.
In the attached drawing (ACAD-2007 format) I have shown a SPLINE which indicates the path I want the outside stringer to follow.
It's possible in maya to sweep a profile along a closed curve? Like in 3DsMax, for example to make a window frame with a particular section profile?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a file with imported geometry from autoCAD and some additional geometries drawn in 3ds (with "sweep"). I gave all geometries the same white material - but the ones drawn in 3ds generate a strange gradient/shadow. I tried to apply other materials and a UVW-map, nothing changed.
Attached a rendering. Where the arrow points to there should be the same white color. What can I do?
I have created city/landscape artwork using photoshop line and box tools. If you go to URL... then click on the link that says (click here to view Gotham City) you will see one of the images I am talking about. Can this image be made to look the same in vector.

I dont understand what is happening because I applied shell modifier on a similar custom made spline and it work properly previously (shown as 2 in image).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a tunnel profile that I need to sweep around a path. This path is a 3D Polyline but it has arcs and slope associated with it. The sweep command has this automatic banking or twisting to it that just screws everything up. The profile needs to stay perpendicular to the path and the floor of this tunnel needs to remain flat.
I have attached the actual working drawing. It has the profile (which is a simple typical tunnel) and the path all situated.I'm working in AutoCAD 2012 if that really matters.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to model an internal 1/8"-27 NPT thread, both the through hole and the tapered part of the hole are modeled, but after I draw the helix and the polygon and orient the polygon to the helix correctly, (or even if I don't, I have tried it) it keeps saying unable to sweep object. I am using Sweep with Alignment with the No option. If I select the polygon first, then click sweep, it works, but rotates the polygon so that what I get ends up looking nothing like a thread profile.
I have tried reducing the polygon radius down to a ridiculously small value, thinking it might have been interference due to a possible trig miscalculation, but with no success, still have the same issue. FYI, I am using a .037" turn height for 27 TPI and a polygon radius of .0214", with a helix small end radius of .177" and large end radius of .189".
I am totally new to Inventor. I have a lot of experience in Illustrator and Photoshop; what I want to do is possible in those programs, but I have not figured out how to do it in Inventor.
Essentialy, I want to make a closed path from a spline and a straight line— this will become a custom shape that I want to turn into a solid. Is it possible or should I just use the split feature?
In the end, I am trying to make a solid that is similar to a section of this necklace, minus the curved portion that connected them to the necklace, itself.
I've been following the Convert 2D to 3D video that is given in the Help section of AutoCAD 2012, and whenever I try to sweep the handle using the same methods that were used in the video it says that it is unable to sweep 1 selected object (when I select the path). I've attached the DWG file.
Also, when I went to use the 3D align feature I did exactly as the video did, but my handle wouldn't align with the side of the mug. It kept lining up with the side but never between the top and bottom of the mug like you'd expect. I kept having to move it to get it down where it needed to be.
I'm trying to do a 3d curve stair rail. I had the 3d spline path, I had the polyline rail profile, but after I sweep the profile, it end up being twisted at the end of the rail. Same problem happens when I did a sweep using a helix path, imagine a vertically placed rectangular profile at one end of the path then after using sweep command, the other end was somehow twisted on a certain degree. How can I avoid this twisting problem

Is there a way to sweep a 3d polyline in AutoCAD 2012? Colleague has a sweep path that he wants to put radii in the corners. I know that in the past you could not do it. I didn't see anything in any post that told me otherwise.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to sweep a line of pixels around an axis point in Photoshop (or Illustrator) to create a circle or multiple circles from the line of pixels. I have to use the line of pixels as it is a slice of an original image to capture a color swatch. I have not used Photoshop in close to 10 years and I cannot for the life of me figure out how I used to do it or if I did for that matter? I thought I used to, whilst I had the line of Pixels selected use the Transform>Rotate option then Adjust the pivot point.
Then I manually rotated it once whilst copying (Which I can no longer work out how to do) and just continue with cmd D or whatever the "do again" shortcut was?
When I am drawing using the "spline fit" I am unable to transfer my DXF to a laser,water-jet, CNC router etc... Is a spline any differnt than a "line? the yellow will show up on the machine, but the green isn't recognized.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make some 3d spline gears in autocad, I start by generating them in eMachineshop then importing into autocad, this works fine but the gear is imported as seperat lines so I can't extrude them, i also cant join the lines because after zooming in there are quite a few gaps. How I can join the lines together without manually connecting the dots? I'll include a copy of the gear, eMachineshop only outputs dxf files as far as i know.

How to find the inflection point of a spline???
I create a spline from a list of points and want to know where the curve of the spline changes to be able to dimension this point, it is not necessarily a point that is entered.
I'm trying to create an external involute spline (ANSI B92.2M) Fillet Root Side Fit 26.9mm x 1 mm x 26 teeth x 38 mm long using the spline generator with Inventor 2012. I created a test shaft"M-182-AMA.ipt" that is Ø26.9 mm x 38 mm long with 1 mm radius on each end of shaft.
I use the following steps:
1. After creating component "M-182-AMA.ipt" I select Design tab>>Power Transmission>>Involute Spline.
2. A window appears that has the caption "Involute Splines Connection Generator".In the Dimensions section I choose "Splines Type: ANSI B92.2M - 37.5 deg, Fillet Root, Side Fit, 26 x 1.00 x 38 x 5H/5h" and change the Length to 38 mm.
3. In the Shaft Groove section I use Create new, and I push the Reference 1 button that turns blue, I then select the od feature from the model and I get an error(see attached pic "error1.jpg).
I changed the 26.9mm od to be 27mm and it still gave me the error.

As you can see, the nature of my model forbids me from making a 3D solid using LOFT.
The top surface is consisted of 3D polyline and arc, which if "joined" will be become a spline.
The bottom surface can easily be joined into polyline.
If I loft the top and bottom, it'll only give me a LOFTED Surface, which is not I want (wanted a 3D solid).
I have an xref file named Base.dwg. I need to replot a drawing (Overall_Road.dwg) which has Base.dwg as xref
I changed the line type of one layer in the Base.dwg file. Changed from DASHED2 to continuous line. Saved and closed Base.dwg
When I open Overall_Road.dwg, the line type doesn't update. I opened "Layer" window and under Linetype, it shows "Base|DASHED2".
How can I fix it to show the updated line type?
Solution to getting a horizontal sweep to miter with a vertical sweep? Or maybe there is a way to pick a path? A feature in the full version that Autodesk deemed unnecessary for LT.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI created and replaced a dwt in 2013. tried opening it in 2012 and it crashes with a "fatal error: unhandled access violation writing 0xec307ff8 exception at ec307ff8h". I restored to whole folder with our dwts to before I created them. and still crashes with 2012. they open fine in 2013.

Basically we have a number of different procedures that need to be written in each drawing. Usually we type it out every time which is a pain or copy paste. Is there any way to have 5 or so pre made text blocks to pick which to insert onto different types of drawings but that can be global used across a few systems? We have a small group of workers all on the vault server.
