Maya Modeling :: Sweep Profile Along A Closed Curve / Spline?
Jan 29, 2014It's possible in maya to sweep a profile along a closed curve? Like in 3DsMax, for example to make a window frame with a particular section profile?

View 1 RepliesThe attached profile is a section from a solid. I would like to create a closed profile in order to extrude the shape into a solid. The polyline command and splinedit don't seem to do the trick.

I am presently learning Maya as my new job require the rigging to be done inside Maya and instead of exporting my controllers aswell learn how to do it in Maya...

But I'd want to pin the root of the curves so it doesn't fly off the head when I use soft modification. Is there any way I can lock or pin the root CV of the curve? (its a cubic nurbs curve)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working out of the Mastering Autodesk Maya 2011 book and am on page 135. (I'm on a MAC)
Tool: Rebuild Curve (after creating curve with): EP Curve Tool
I'm trying to rebuild a curve I just made but when I hit "rebuild" I get the error message:
//Error: Nothing was selected to rebuild. You must select NURBS curves or curve on surface. But it's strange, I DO have it selected. In the Outliner I have it highlighted and the curve is highlighted yellow.
The strange thing is when the curve is not highlighted it is RED? I also don't seem to be able to select it with the cursor - only in the Outliner.
I created the curve with the CV Curve tool by snapping to the ends of 2 other curves and then hitting "enter".
I'm guessing the fact the created curve is red when unselected is telling me something is wrong with the curve but I'm unsure.
I was watching a tutorial on digital tutors and they Revolved a CV Curve to make a tire, and I want to know how to extend a curve along an axis instead of revolve it.I painted in the Right viewer to show what I want to achieve.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to extrude a cube along a CV curve, but I seem to be running into two issues.
Here is the first one.

For some odd reason I am not seeing the option called "use selected curve for extrusion" in the extrude window. Does it even exist in Maya 2012? Or did they take it out?
And here is my second issue.
[URL]....
Since there is no option called "use selected curve for extrusion", I have to experiment with the "Poly Extrude Curve" options. But when I do....the mesh gets all messed up and it always seems to come to a point at the other end of the CV curve.
Why can I not see the option "use selected curve for extrusion"? And why does my mesh keep coming to a point at the end of my CV curve?
i am trying to add CV curves to a scene that I already created.
whenever I draw the curve in side view, it is actually nowhere near the object that I wanted it to be near. Its like super far away and im not sure how to move it to the right spot.
Is there some method to add the curve based on a position of an object?
I am trying to make some trim work to go on a project of mine. Im using a shape then tryig to extrude down the curve is there a way to make the corner tight or a plugin to make trim work easier. you can see in the first image what im trying to make and the second my curve and what i get when im done.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm rigging a model of a robot and I have wires (nurbs circles extruded along a curve) attaching to two objects that are on different joints. I have it rigged so that when the first joint moves, half of the CVs of all the wires (in a control cluster) move along with the joint (and, in turn, the object they are attached to). This much works fine, the extruded nurb follows the curve and stays the same diameter from start to finish. My problem starts with the rigging of the second joint (the second joint is the parent of the first joint). I've tried many different ways of rigging it, but as I'm only just starting rigging my thought process isn't quite a straight line yet. Basically my problem is when the source curves physically move, the extruded surface goes twice the distance as displayed in the picture below.
I need to know how to get the extruded surface to always be in the same place as the curve with out breaking the connection.
I have traced out this piece of geometry using CV curve and then used loft to convert the Curves into actual geometry. I need to have one solid piece of geometry to project an image onto, how can I convert this to one solid piece? I have attached my .mb file.horro_chair.mb.zip

I am once again trying to get the hang of drawing a 3D spiral staircase and cannot seem to figure out the SWEEP command properly. I have a channel, or a rectangular tube shape which I want to use for the stringers. If I use a round tube, like when I do the handrail, there is no trouble. But when I use a channel or rectangular tube shape the SWEEP command causes the shape to bank and I end up with an unuseable shape.
In the attached drawing (ACAD-2007 format) I have shown a SPLINE which indicates the path I want the outside stringer to follow.
I try to sweep along spline that made of elliptical arc and line.
Funny thing that I was able to create a solid few days ago by doing this method. Now I can't!
I tried even reload Autocad.
I have looked through these forums and found plenty of sweep problems and the answers to the problems but none for this particular type. I made a 3d intersection curve and am trying to sweep a profile along that curve but I keep getting the discontinuous segments error. I am using standard inventor 2011.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am practicing modelling 3D sweeps using an intersection curve, and tried to insert a swept cut on the attached model, but the ends are not circular. I assume this is because the plane which I drew the sweep profile on is not on the top face. Is there an easy way to rectify this and create the semicircular channel in the ends?

I need to create an arch (shown in elevation), that follows a curved path (shown in plan).
I'm trying to do a 3d curve stair rail. I had the 3d spline path, I had the polyline rail profile, but after I sweep the profile, it end up being twisted at the end of the rail. Same problem happens when I did a sweep using a helix path, imagine a vertically placed rectangular profile at one end of the path then after using sweep command, the other end was somehow twisted on a certain degree. How can I avoid this twisting problem
See the before and after image. I wanted the rectangle profile to remain vertical throughout the whole sweep
I have two faces of different size and am trying to sweep out a curve section between the two. But since the two faces are of different size it only follows the path with the original face selected.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSpline curve command has changed. This is terrible as I used to use simple line types to show different things on my drawings that was rapid fast with custom macros etc. Now the spline curve command does not work in same way costing me hours of time wasted. I have now resorted in saving all incoming drawings to older version and completing my drawings that way. Only problem is the new drawings are growing above the capabilities of my old machine.
How can I initiate the old std 2 point spline curve in the new software so it works the same way as old version?
When I create a curve using spline on the screen I have noticed that often the curve between the points of the spline will become as straight lines. When I click on a point the curve appears again as normal and as I wanted. Any way to stop it from happening? Is this simply a characteristic of AutoCAD or something I am doing wrong? Does the curve appear as desired when plotted? The curves I am referring to are sections of a ships hull.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor a monthly magazine on uncoated paper, our workflow is as follows:
- convert every photo to uncoated cmyk (PSO Uncoated) + apply some corrections to look nice in this profile
- apply a fixed correction curve to the photo's
- (resize images + apply proper sharpening for print)
- export pdf: convert colors to destination, preserve numbers
The correction curve step is critical. Without it, everything is printed much too dark.Unfortunately our printer can't provide us with a correct profile for the paper that is used. That's why the correction curve in photoshop is needed. The profile + the correction curve give a good, predictable result.
However i don't like the workflow with the correction curve, because only photoshop links can be corrected. We would also like to put a digital version of the magazine online, so i have to replace all links if i won't to have them displayed correctly.
Can i somehow combine the icc profile with the correction curve into a new icc profile?I did some research and found about "Custom CMYK" in photoshop (see screenshot), but i think an existing profile (PSO Uncoated) can't be edited or replicated in this dialog box.
I am having difficulty aligning the profile for a sweep feature. I need the profile to be normal to the path, but aligned vertically. In other words, the rectangular profile should remain "plumb" along the entire sweep. Is there a simple way to do this?
I have shared the sample files, trying to use the profile in two different ways, through Dropbox (they are too large to upload). I am using Inventor 2013.

I am trying to sweep a profile throughout the helical sweep path which is a series of 3d sketches. The sweet prifile sweeps correctly to the first 3d sketch profile but whin I select the second line the preview is gone and Inventor gives me an error saying the sweep cannot be done. how I can have the sweep done throughout the helical structure.Attached is the ipt file.

My goal is to write a Drawable Overrule, which would change the entities color to dark gray, except when they are on a specific layer. For closed-only curves in this layer, I want to add a semi-transparent hatch.
