AutoCAD 2010 :: Dimension Centerline Of Wall?
Jul 23, 2012What is the easiest way to dimension to the centerline of a wall? I need to land a dimension tick where there is no line.

View 2 Repliesi need a lisp that construct line between two lines of wall by selection called (Wall Centerline)
i attach example of what i want assuming that i will often isolate wall layer in the project to facilitate the task.
I'm drawing individual guest rooms for a hotel that I would like to xref into the main floor plans. The walls between the rooms are 8" wide. I would like to only show half the width of those walls (4") so when xrefed againt another guest room in the main floor plan, the total width would be 8". But I would like for the one side of the 4" wall to appear as a centerline on the individual plans, but at the same time, be able to shut the centerlines off on the main floor plans. I'm new to ACA 2012 and perhaps I'm going about this in the wrong way.........?????

This is my 3 days of using autocad 2012 3d. I have a basic knowledge in 2d. Attached is the drawing that I am working on. When you open 2.jpg - I want to remove that wall including the window but theres a message appeared that this is 3d solid. When I erase it all of the highlighted lines disappear. But when I am trying to explode all the lines the 3.jpg is view before I explode all the lines the after the 4.jpg is the view after explode. The wall have space in the middle.
How can I remove the wall without affecting the other 3d walls?
I am looking for an example autocad drawing of the connection between a window and a wall. In other words, a drawing which shows how the window is attached to the wall.
Does not matter what kind of window, materials etc.
I know there is a command for making a hole on a wall or a facade without compromising the finishes on the wall.
eg:i have a wall now drawn out, with all the details of the wall done, but i realise now have to make a window out of the wall i have hatched, but i do not want to create a rec and trim it. as i may have to change the window position again.
Is it possible to change the dimension style somehow, such that it adds 3 units (in this case inches).I have a client that wants the neat length of the pipe given above the dimension line, and the length with extra sock below the dimension line.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn AutoCAD 2012 My dimension style/scale seems to change automatically. I'll add one dimension in paper space, and then the very next dimension will be in a different style. It will say 30" one time, then 400" the next. Seems like it picks its own scale randomly. It happens with the default dim styles as well as custom styles.

I would like to set up the dimension style to report this dimension automatically without editing the text manually to change 1' to 12". Is there a way to set this up through the dimension style?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to move the horizontal text of a vertical dimension that's outside of the extension lines to the right or left?
This was possible years ago with a simple stretch or moving of the text grip. Now, if the dimension is above the extension lines, the text is to the right. If it is below the extension lines, the text is to the left.
I am attempting -- without much success -- to put my dimensions in paperspace. The problem is that sometimes (almost always) the dimension value is in paperspace. That is, when I do a Linear Dimension of two points of an object while in paperspace the resulting value will be a few inches instead of many feet.
My model is drawn at full size; my viewport is set to 1/4" = 1'-0"; I am using ACA 2012.
I am not sure if it instructive, but I have found:
- The only time it comes out correct is if my first point is at 0,0. But if the second point is 0,0 it will be wrong (paperspace value). Bizarre
- most of the "wrong" dimensions have the "Associative" property set to "No". The box is grayed out so I am not sure how to change it.
- If I MEASUREGEOM, the value is the correct model space length but if I do a linear dimension using the same two points the value is in paperspace.
After creating a parametricly dimensioned, fully constrained, 2D drawing I wanted to add a couple of annotative reference dimensions to two different curves. I first select the parametric radius dimension (default is annotative). Next I click on the curve, then click the desired location. The dimension shows up, highlighted for editing. I press enter. Now the over-constrained window pops up giving me two options: Create a Reference Dimension or Reselect the Object. I choose Reference Dimension. The dimension immediately disappears. No error shows in the command bar. Attached is the file. It is the two large radii along the bottom (or top, its symmetric) that I am trying to give reference dimensions.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIm drawing the image below for school but I cannot figure out how to create the radius dimensions as they shown.
The only ones I know how to do are they .25 and the .75 diameter. I have tried changing the dimension style in every way I can think of. Just to clarify the 1.31 and .63 radius demotion how the leader starts in the center and the arrow is on the inside of the circle yet the text has the extended leader and is outside the circle and the other radius demotions the text is in the middle of the leader is what I am trying to learn to do.
How can I print a dimension with its arrows but without it's dimension lines?
For example--I draw a rectangle and draw a horizontal dimension across the center of the rectangal. Then I flip the arrows and drag the number to the left outside of the rectangal. I want arrows facing inward from the left and right and the number out to the left. I don't want a line stretched across the center of the rectangal.
I have been working in AutoCAD for 4 years and am having trouble with dimensioning. I was given a drawing that was exported from VectorWorks into a dwg. However, when I try and do my dimension in paperspace, they are not correct. They only time they seem to work is when I do the scale at 1:1. But If I redraw the object I can do whatever scale I want and it works fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAutocad appears to be seclectively rounding this dimension. Both are the same DIMSTYLE, but one is rounding down, and one is rounding up. They are in the same drawing with the dimension taken on the same two lines.

I am getting this Dim reassociate icon all over my drawing. how i can re associate all my dimensions in one step. Because every time a try to re associate. it asks me to select two points. I simply can not do this as i have hundreds of them in my drawing. I don't understand how they become dissociated. I have attached a screen shot of it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to create a wall style that has 2 components, a framed wall and a brick veneer. What I would like to do is have this wall react a certain way when I insert a window. Basically, I don't want the window to cut into the brick veneer, only the framing.
I have attached my attempt so far, and I have not figured out how to get the window to only cut the framed portion.
