When I copy or move an object in a file converted from Microstation to Autocad 2012 the system freezes or slows down to a crawl. If I redraw the drawing in Autocad it works fine. I have a lot of drawings converted from Microstation and I don't need to be redrawing them all.
View 1 RepliesEverytime I try to open files created from Microstaion but saved as CAD it blue screens my computer! I have a newer laptop with Windows 7. However, an older computer in our office with Windows XP can open these files with no problem? Both computers have AutoCAD LT 2012.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA co-worker had a copy of a handy little guide called "Lynn Allen's Tips and Tricks for AutoCAD 2012". I think she (or another co-worker) got it at AU.
On page 33 under the heading "DGN Support", it says the following:
Complex linetypes are now maintained! To ensure that custom linetypes are displayed, copy the corresponding .rsc files to the support path...........
The way I read that, Acad will read the RSC file and display linetypes from it. Is that true? Does it only work when I'm looking at a DGN file? Or can I use the RSC file with my dwg file? I'd test it myself but I don't have access to any MicroStation files.
If Acad can read the RSC file directly, then I don't see why the linetypes can't be used in a dwg file. AND that being the case, I also don't see why an Autodesk product can't be created to WRITE these RSC files. As far as I'm concerned MicroStation's custom linestyles is so much more advanced than Acad's linetypes.
What happened to the option/enter command in the move object dialog that has been around since the early days of Illustrator??? Instead of having to mouse click the "copy" button in the move object window, one could just hold down option with Return or Enter and the Copy command would happen rather than a simple move. Immensely useful for prepress work!

I am considering a move to DNG conversion so I did some test conversions and was amazed to find that, far from reducing the size of my mRAW files, it increased them by about 60%. I repeated the exercise with RAW files and found that this did reduce the size of the files by over 10%. In fact, i ended up with the crazy situation where the DNG files converted from mRAW were much bigger than those converted from RAW.
Below are some sample sizes based on Medium previews, Embed fast load data - YES, Embed original RAW file - NO, Compatibility Camera Raw 7.1 and later
Before : mRAW 17Mb mRAW 12Mb
After: DNG 28.5Mb DNG 21Mb
Before: RAW 23Mb RAW 22Mb
After: DNG 20Mb DNG 19Mb
If I went for Full Preview, the DNG sizes rose by about 2 Mb
why the mRAW conversion is so inefficient?
I am still not entirely sure whether to adopt DNG but, if i do, it looks like I certainly won't be using mRAW as the source.
I could not move or copy the hatch,it seems like locked. The dxf drawing was exported from CSC OrionR18.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIf I drag an effect from the target circle of one object to anther in the layer's panel it replaces the effect along with all appearance. But I want just to add the effect. For example, a layer has a drop shadow and a path, round corners. I want to move the drop shadow from the layer to the path so that the path now has the round corners and the drop shadow. To do this I have to open the shadow effect of the layer wright down its parameters, then create a shadow effect for the path with the same parameters which is a lot of work.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to OPEN some legacy MicroStation drawings through AutoCAD. I have done this with nearly 400 files thus far but there are a dozen or so that are coming back with an error message reading 'YOU HAVE A SELECTED AN INVALID OR UNSUPPORTED DGN FILE'. I can look at these through Bentley Viewer, but do not have a full version of MicroStation to try and fix things.

If you select an object and then drag it, it moves. This is without initiating the MOVE command and without picking any grips.
Is there a way to subtract and object but it doesn't erase the original object?
I have a way of doing this by copying an object and placing it in the original position. Than subtract a single object leaving the copy of the object behind.
I wondered if there is a way to accomplish this with less steps.
I attached DGN file in dwg, the same way of attaching any exrefrence. I would like to make changing the this attached file. It does not respond as block or xref.
How can I edit this DGN in the AutoCAD?
I am copy clipping some objects, and then pasting them back into the drawing as a block. At first everything worked fine, now when I perform that routine, and paste back into the drawing, it inserts it way off in left field. What parameter did I upset now?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of assisting a client implement Civil 3D into their work environment. Up to this point they have been MicroStation users. They have now seen the power of Civil 3D and are making the move. However, they're not yet Civil 3D experts and they still have some projects in MicroStation that need to be completed.
So in a project in MicroStation they are trying to place a pattern (similar to a hatch pattern in ACAD) into an area but the software has stopped looking for the MicroStation cell file (I believe that's what it's called) and has now started looking for the AutoCAD acad.pat file. This has only started happening on any computer that has Civil 3D installed.
Where that search path is located within MicroStation so I can reset it? Until this is resolved they've halted further installs of Civil 3D.
I have a ribbon that I'm trying to copy onto my page and it is a png file. I've copied papers that are jpgs just fine. Once I copy the png ribbon it locks and I cannot move it around. How do I either unlock it or is there a way to see where I am placing it on my project?

Newer AEC objects will be disallowed from participating in this operation”. And I cannot paste the object copied from other file. This happened to me when I work with Autocad2010 using drawings saved as Autocad2004 in Autocad2013.
Since I am working in a group of people that have different versions of Autocad, I need the solution for this problem.
I am trying to convert a mesh to solid in AutoCAD 2010 using the CONVTOSOLID command but I get this message . . .
'Mesh not converted because it is not closed or it self-intersects. Object cannot be converted.'
Is there another way of achieving this?
I have a 3D file (not of my creation) that gives me some problems when I try to copy it (it is a 3D building).
The problem is that, when i click on "copy" command, I can select a point but then AutoCAD crashes and it takes about 30 seconds to return working a normal way and permit me to paste it. (it happens with "move" command too)
Otherwise, if I use "copy with base point" I have no problems: after a second I can paste it where I want.
How can it be possible? Cause if sometimes I mistake and digit "copy", I always have to wait the long Autocad response.
This problem happens with both autocad 2012 and 2013 and it doesn't happen with other 3D files I have. The drawing is made mainly of meshes.
I have a Dell notebook and a NVIDIA Quadro 2000M video card, so you can understand I don't like this problems: I spent a lot of money for something I hoped could work well with AutoCAD.
About that, aren't there drivers for the graphic card? Cause when I click on "check for updates", autocad says me that there are newer version of the driver, but then it says me that it is impossible to update it (I have a connession and a student version).
I have spent the last three days writing a lisp program that will copy a text string from one text file and paste it into another. I have tried using the write-string, get string, prin1, princ and print functions with no success.

Converted the object to edit poly and duplicated + attached all the piece.
So I have this one object that is really long and this is the rail of the whole staircase.
Now I created a spline and once I select the object and add a Path Deform, the object isn't rotating correctly along the spline. At the beginning of the spline its @ 90 degrees and further down it starts to spin.
How do I make it so it's always 90 degrees to the ground?

This actually started out as a font, and I converted it to an object with paths using apple-shift-o. I'm wanting to get rid of the balloon around the lettering, but am having a real hard time doing so using the convential methods (ie cutting, deleting the anchor points). When I do this, it seems to interfere with the lettering. How I can accomplish this for a piece of text I converted to an object?
A CSV (comma separated value) file was converted into a topo CAD file. But when I try to xref or insert it into my base drawing, it is showing up really small. The scale is obviously wrong.

I want to be able to select (using the File Open dialog box) a "Step" file that I have downloaded from my supplier, then convert it to an IPT file (NOT AN ASSEMBLY!!!), automatically.
My current goal is to specify the rotation and translation of an object using a text file full of numbers. I have been told that I should import a "move" file. However, I can't seem to find any kind of reference about the move file format or how to use it. I see in the import dialog box that there is a file type called "move" but I don't know how to format the data that I put into the "move" file.
Also, I tried to export a "move" file so I could take a look at what Maya generates, but I keep getting the error "// Error: Could not save file "C:/My Documents/maya/projects/body_in_ocean/scenes/examplemove.mov".
I created a group with my object in one file, referenced it in my working file, moved the group around and set some keys in the working file, but I can't seem to export any move data. How to get this to work?
