AutoCAD 2010 :: Why UCS Giving Lines

May 31, 2011

SEE ATTACHMENT:

why my UCS keeps giving me these lines attached to my UCS.  It not only attaches here but also on each of my Objects.  It slows down the computer and the only way I can seem to get rid of them is by shutting down the program and reopening.  Is there a quicker/more efficient way of fixing this issue?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Plotting Lines Using Compass Direction For Lines Angle

Apr 25, 2012

i am doing a simple project making a survey plot for a piece of land that will be broken into subdivision. all measurements are of my starting point. after plotting the starting point i try to draw line that is 113 feet long and at a bearing of N 5d W i have no problem entering this data but when i hit enter it draws a straight line. now i know 5 degrees is much of an angle so i thought maybe it just looked straight and tried to plot the next point which was 542 feet from the last point at a bearing of N 39d E but once again after i put the info in and hit enter or space it would plot a line of the proper length but vertical, not the proper angle i need it at. here is how i would put in the info:

first i choose the lne command and choose my "beginning point" as that starting point for my line then i type 113<N 5d W for the length and direction and hit enter. when i do this it plots a vertical line of the proper length but wrong angle. what am i doing wrong? i have ortho set to off and idk what else to mess with

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create IPT For Cast With / Without Giving

Aug 25, 2012

The company i'm working used to draw their casted parts in Autocad. They added the extra material (before milling) with a dashed contour line. Now we work with Inventor 2010 and the models are all created 'finished'.

Now the situation is that the CNC-programmer is adding this 'given' material in his Gibs-cam application in order to write his program. Due to that the discussion appeared what is best. To add the material in Inventor or in Gibbs. I'm interested to hear some workaround according to this.

AutoCad :: Zoom / Extents Giving Microdots

Aug 26, 2010

I'm currently marking up some electrical items on a building plan.

At present, when I enter the zoom | extents command, the entire drawing is represented as a microdot in the bottom left corner of the screen.

I assume that upon entering the zoom | extents command, my drawing should appear centred on the screen and zoomed such that the entire drawing fills the screen.

Do I need to move the drawing origin? Do I need to rescale?

AutoCAD Inventor :: FEM Analysis Giving Object Acceleration

Mar 24, 2012

I do not know how to do the folowing:

I have an object that has to be accelerated by an external force. It can freely move in space.

But when I apply the forces, the analysis complains that there are no constraints.

I don't want to constraint the object. Because that would result in stresses that will not be there in practice.

I just want to see the stresses when the forces are applied to accelerate the object.

So how to deal with this?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Keyway Generator Giving Incorrect Sizes?

Jul 29, 2013

I am using the keyway generator to place a keyway in a hub and shaft, but the depth of the keyway (and the height of the associated key) is not right.

I am using an 18mm and a 20mm dia shaft, both of which should use a 6mm wide by 6mm high key according to the ISO standard. [URL]

But Inventor gives me a 6mm wide x 4mm high key and the keyways to fit; so if I use a standard 6mm high key in real life it won't fit. There doesn't seem to be any way to change to a custom key height.

Or is Inventor using a different set of standards? It's pretty good at matching standards in other places, for example the gear and fastener generators, so this seems strange to me.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Breaklines Giving Wrong Contour Elevations?

May 19, 2013

I'm somewhat new to Civil 3D 2013 and have never encountered this problem before. I've got a top slope standard breakline (dark green line) and bottom slope standard breakline (light green line) with the highest elevation for the top slope at 72' and it gradually slopes down to about 54' within a 75' span. My problem, as you can see in the screen shot below, is I am getting 54'-59' elevation contours right next to a survey point with a 72' elevation whenever I hover my mouse over one of the contours. There are no nearby points with anything near 54' even outside of the surface boundary (shown in magenta).

AutoCAD LT :: Export Layout Command Not Giving Desired Results?

Feb 8, 2012

I need to have users plot to DWF from paper space so they cancustomize all the layers colors etc, on that specific paper space tab. I then am mixing this with FDO data generated out of Model space. Unfortunately, when using the EXPORTLAYOUT command, the data is coped into Model space but seems to retain it's paper space coordinates. I had hoped this function would behave like CHSPACE and copy everything from paper to model space in the same scale.

AutoCAD 2010 :: DWG TO PDF / False Lines?

Oct 12, 2012

I have created a drawing with hatch that I would like to print in color not in grayscale. I have used dwg to PDF for many other plots and have not had an issue, but they were all in grayscale. With this dwg when I plot to PDF, the PDF writes lines into the drawing that do not exist in autoCAD. If I plot from AutoCAD the lines do not appear and I did not draw the lines in the dwg file. However, when I plot from the PDF it plots with additional lines all over the drawing. Is this because I am plotting in color and some of my layers have the transparency set for around 45?

AutoCAD 2010 :: How To Merge Lines

Mar 9, 2012

As more and more clients, subs, etc., etc are requesting pdf's more and more often, the issue of "lines merge" vs. "lines overwrite" (and therefore, pdf "flattening" when printing a pdf) is becoming more of a topic of discussion in our office.

I know we're not the only office making pdf's that have to be "flattened" (thereby taking a huge amount more of time to print) when sending to a printer.... but not *all* pdf's we receive need to be flattened so there are some offices that don't have to deal with this issue.

The question is this:

If you use lines merge = on in your autocad, do you have a way to get pdfs that don't need to be flattened? (printing to dwf then pdf is not a reliable option either, as that does not consistantly honor the lines merge feature between dwf/pdf either)

If you don't use lines merge then how do you set up your drawings to allow for easy draworder handling? (and do you use solid hatching patterns in your drawings, which we rely on alot)

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Nil Not Giving Desired Response In Selection

May 7, 2012

I use menu's based upon the following snippet:

(if (or (equal choose "1"))(MYFUNCTIONSDEFINITION))
works a treat, its easy for me to understand even if maybe not totally orthadox in method.

So I can populate my code to have multiple selections such as follows.

(if (or (equal choose "1"))(MYfunctionDEFINITION1))(if (or (equal choose "2"))(MYfunctionDEFINITION2))(if (or (equal choose "3"))(MYfunctionDEFINITION3))

and so on, but the example above caters for situations the users enter the values of 1, 2, or 3. If the user enters anything else I get a nil response from AutoCAD. So I devised the following

(if nil (alert "Wrong selection"))

but no response from AutoCAD qua an alert

also tried to be more in uniform with the rest of the lisp and wrote

(if nil (MYalertRESPONSE))(defun MYalertRESPONSE ()(alert "Wrong selection"))

also fails to yield the desired response.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Annotative Lines With Thickness

Feb 12, 2013

We are currently in the transition to Annotative Annotation (Dims, Text, etc.).

One obstacle that i have not been able to overcome are graphical elements where I need their thickness to adjust to the viewport scale.  Graphic elements like (MatchLines, Property Lines, Limit of Work and Set Backs) these all have thickness to display prominently in our drawings.

Currently we are making duplicate copies of these lines and adjusting thier thickness but this defeats the purpose of having annotative lables etc.

I would like an annotative line with a thickness.

Ex. a 12" thick line thru a vport with 1/8" scale will print at 1/8" but the same line thru a vport at 1/16" will print at 1/16".

We would like the the line to maintain it's printed thickness (1/8") no matter the vport scale.

I have tried using the Line Width Display but that just makes a mess...obstructs the dwg when zoomed out, rounds the end of dashes etc.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Lines Are Jagged And Disconnected?

Jan 3, 2014

My 2013 AutoCAD file needs to "regen" after just scrolling in and out once. I can't do anything because the lines are disconnected and jagged all of a sudden. This started a few hours ago after I drew a spiral staircase and blocked it. I noticed the lines were all of a sudden not connecting while drawing the stairs though. Is there a command that I might have accidently typed to change some type of format? or unit set up? I have been working on this file since September and this problem has never occured. The lines look fine from far away, but when you zoom in there's a clear separation. My snaps are on and they seem to be aligning when I click, but when you zoom in they're not touching at all. I've been googling for soooo long and can't find an answer. My units are 1/8" (Architectural) and when I check the dimension between the two lines it says it's 0".
