When I am creating a drawing, every so often, when I draw something, it gives me different elevations for the Z axis. Is there a way to keep that at 0? I'm not sure if it's because of vendors blocks, or whatever the reason, and I know how to change the elevation back to 0, but how do I stop it from starting to begin with?
I have multiple paper spaces to show a variety of drawings. I currently have my floor plan as a viewport, but I need to delete it in order to add in my elevations. I tried deleting my current viewport, but it also deletes the rest of mine. How do I delete a viewport from only one paper space, so that it does not interrupt with my other drawings?
The behavior in AutoCAD 2012 has changed with regard to the UCS command. I am trying to rotate my UCS along the Z-axis.
In 2011, I could enter UCS [enter] Z [enter] then select 2 points on *any* line using END point osnaps to have the ucs rotate along the Z-axis at the angle of the selected line.
Now in 2012 when I enter UCS [enter] Z [enter], a rubber-band line displays anchored from a pre-selected point which appears to be the drawing origin, usually 0,0,0. I am only allowed to select a single point, which results in the UCS NOT rotating to match the line as before.
I am aware that I could now use the OBject option, and then select one end of the line. This is fine except it does not work if I select a line that is part of an attached xref. With the old method in 2011, I could select 2 points of *any* line.
I am also aware that I could "type" in a value in both cases above but that option is too time-consuming and error-prone. Are there any legacy options available for the UCS command to make it work as before? Or is there a way to override the UCS-Z command option to not pre-select the first point at the drawing origin?
Lisp routine or macro that will either rotate or align selected objects so they are parallel to an axis on the current UCS?
Specifically, when placing mtext to label an object. I typically align my ucs to the object then create the text so it is parallel to the object. It would be great if I could create the text with a rotation of 0, align my ucs to the object to be labeled and then with a single click, select the text making it parallel to the X axis.
When I use the copy with base point command in paper space and try to paste it into paper space of another drawing it seems to come in on a different axis or something. I can see the view ports as they are supposed to be however the text just shows as a line. It would be as if I were to put text in model space on top view and see it just fine then go to a front view and see just a line.
i try to make an animation. I create a cylinder and i want to rotate it by longitudinal axis. i click 'components', select the cylinder and after i click 'position' to select the axis that axis system appears in the right side of the cylinder not in the middle. If i continue whit this settings the cylinder will rotate by a circle not by his longitudinal axis. How can i move that axis sistem in the middle of the cylinder? I can drag it but can't place it exactly in the middle.
Is there any way I can extract the rotation of a block relative to the yz axis and xy axis. I can extract the insertion point and xy rotation but not the yz and xz.
I'm rigging a shoulder pad to a biped and I'd like it to only rotate on one axis. Google hasn't been that useful, and I hope I don't need scripting for this kind of minor thing. I'm rather new to 3Ds Max Design but I'm learning fast and liking it so far!
I've attached what I want to effectively accomplish. I'm looking for a way to lock the z-axis of the object with the upper arm's z-axis.
. How to assign proposed elevation to layout alignment along each station?. I know there is a way in LDT to assign proposed elevations to s specific range of stations or the full alignment, under menu "profiles/ FG Vertical Alignments/Create COGO Points" I am looking for the same one in C3D.
2. How to add connecting alignment label and station in profile view. For example I have an main alignment and in-between lot of other alignments are meeting with this alignment.
I want to show in profile view of the main alignment the meeting alignment's name and the station it meets with?
How to get precise elevations at lowest and highest points. I need to get spots where the water flows and its precise elevation at that spot as analysis.
In C3D 2012, when I needed to know what elevation a surface contour was at, I simply hovered my mouse near the point in question and a small window would tell me what elevation my mouse was hovering at. Now, in 2013 I am trying to do the same thing but the little window only has the name of the surface and no elevations. So, how am I supposed to know surface elevations on the fly? Is there some setting to turn that back on?
I'm trying to label elevations on some large contours.
The problem i'm having is that 'multi line' does not give me enough elevations, while 'advanced placement' gives far to many elevations for mapping and plotting purposes. Is there a way to have more control on how Map labels contours?
We have a good size channel and the section for the channel varies quite a bit. We want to find the volume excavated in the channel between 2 elevations (it is the area of sand per the goetech report)? A template was not used to create the channel surface, breaklines and gradings were used.
I need to project a surface/grading (or something of that nature) across my berm and have it intersect with the inside bank. This is better explained if you see the attached image. In the plan view you see 4 featurelines. Outside TOE, outside TOB, inside TOB then inside TOE. I need to project the outside TOE across the berm (shown in the section view) then create a new featureline where the line and inside slope of the berm intersect. Note that all the elevation shots vary as does the widths across the berm. What's the best way to do this?
I've had a rather odd request come in for Volume calculations and I'm not sure how to go about it.
I have 2 surfaces: 1-Design 2-Excavation to Date
Now, the engineers would like to use a dozer to push this material down the hill but they want to do it incrementally by elevation. They would like to know how much material there is to excavate above elevation 90, then between elevation 80-90, then 70-80, etc all the way to 30-40.
I attached a sketch... what is the best way to do this?

I downloaded a bunch of GIS files for Baltimore City and am trying to compile them to make base tiles we can use for different projects. I have tried using MapImport and MapConnect to bring in the shp file for the contours. They come in but without the elevation. The elevation is brought in as Object Data with MapImport, but is there a way to assign that to the elevation field in the polyline properties? MapConnect brings the elevation in as part of the table but again how do I get that elevation assigned to the elevation field in the polyline properties? I just assigned the elevations manually for the 10' contours in one tile. I have to do about 50 tiles, and it seems like there must be a much better way to do it.
I am currently working on a project with an architect and I have some elevations that are in the current floor plan sheet. During the last project review he wants to move them off the floor plan sheet and onto another sheet. No Problem. However when i went back to regenerate the elevation to copy to another sheet, I noticed that there were a flashing boxes where the old elevations were. Is there something there that needs to be purged somehow. I tried using the purge command and they are still there.
I have two different point groups that I am using in my drawing. One is from a survey done a few years ago and the other is from one that I did just the other day.
I don't have a problem inserting the points or whatnot, but the issue I am having is that when I click "Datum" to adjust the elevations of my new point group (to make my benchmark 100.00'), Civil 3D alters all of my points; including the ones from the older survey. Is a way to adjust elevations to only one set of points.
I have a survey figure that no matter what will not come in with the correct elevations, its a spline (continous) curve that the elevations get blow up on.
Only thing I can think of is the when it starts to interpolate the curve it cant get the elevations correct, this only happens in the curved area, once it goes tangent everything goes back to normal.
changing series of elevations, which are currently flat like plans, to an up right position. I just want to change the plane of the elevations essentially. This is being done in autocad 2011
When I capture the elevation data from google earth, the elevations on the grid once in Autocad Map 3D are not the same as shown in google earth. It seems that the elevation have been scaled up.
