I can't change the resolution in the viewport configs either, what gives? 2011 let you set the "Download Texture Size" to "match bitmap as close as possible." I can't Find this option.
I am using Nitrous.
I'm pretty new to 3ds Max and I am trying to make a short animation. Its about a game called Minecraft ( its ok if you dont know what Minecraft is ) but anyways I got a texture online for a model I had. When I drag the texture onto the model it appears blurry. Everything else is fine except that its blurry. "set the interpolation of the texture to none". How to find the interpolation of the texture and what that means?
View 9 Replies View Relatedafter working for a while with Max 2013, i have noticed that texture display in viewport is a very poor quality compared to Max 2012, and it is same with display of environment map in viewport.
I have found some ways to manually set texture quality in viewport here, but i would like to know if there is any way to make Max 2013 viewport texture display EXACTLY IDENTICAL to way it was in Max 2012.
For example, if i manually change nitrous texture resolution, then resolution improves, but if i display some environment bitmap in viewport, i get extreme lag when minimizing/maximizing viewports. About 2-10 seconds to minimize/maximize viewport lag whenever there is an environment map displayed in any of the viewports. As soon as i disable display of environment in viewport, viewport minimize/maximize task is instant again.
In Max 2012, when i display enviro map in viewport, i have absolutely no delay in minimizing or maximizing what so ever.
So i would like to know how i can make Max 2013 display same quality of textures as Max 2012, and make it perform same way as in Max 2012 (no lag when switching viewports).From what i understand, viewports in 2013 should be optimized, therefore actually faster, not slower.
I noticed recently that the textures in one of my scenes are very dark in the viewport with "texture view (number 6)"

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt appears various people are posting things that are posted in the Readme. For Nitrous these are:
• To prevent issues with Nitrous, ensure you have the most up‐to‐date system drivers. For specific details, see the sections about 3ds Max 2012 / 3ds Max Design 2012 found at URL....
• Applying Unwrap UVW after painting in 2D with Viewport Canvas and painting on top of the Unwrap UVW can sometimes cause 2D paint to fail.
Workaround: If this occurs, apply an Edit Poly modifier on top of the Unwrap UVW modifier.
• Civil View parameters can cause a program error when modifying surface parameters.
• Object Color display will show the object’s material color when set to object color.
Workaround: Enable Use Environment Background and Display Background in the Viewport Background settings (Alt+B).
• Locking the computer can cause the viewports to stop responding in some cases.
Workaround: If this occurs, restart the program.
• Mirrored or negatively scaled objects might display face edges incorrectly.
• The Soft selection Shade Face Toggle does not always properly display the shaded faces.
• MassFX constraints can cause Dummy objects not to display in Realistic mode.
• Body Objects display tessellated/triangulated edges instead of the proper Body curves.
• Back faces display as transparent.
• Hidden Line style does not display texture maps in the viewport.
• Tone Mapper used with a Skylight set to use the mr Physical Sky environment will display a black background when enabled.
• Enable Gamma/LUT Correction does not work on stylized viewports.
• Very large textures (10K x 10K) can cause a program error. Workaround: You can control texture sizes with MAXScript:
NitrousGraphicsManager.SetTextureSizeLimit 512 true
NitrousGraphicsManager.SetBackgroundTextureSizeLimit 1024 true
Or by modifying the following keys in 3dsmax.ini:
ViewportTextureSizeLimitEnabled=1
ViewportTextureSizeLimit=512
ViewportBackgroundTextureSizeLimitEnabled=1
You need to restart 3ds Max after making these changes.-Eric
Since the install, 3ds Max 2012 has been acting strangely and will not display the perspective viewport correctly. It shows up as pitch black. However, when I nudge it via a "pan" or "rotate" mouse movement it momentarily displays correctly, then reverts to black.
I have installed SP1, Hotfix 1, Hotfix 2, and a new driver for my video card (Nvidia Quadro 4000).
In previous versions of Max, visibility was “scrubable” on the timeline. You could see the object as a ghost and gradually appearing, fully opaque. I can’t seem to get it to work in Max2012.

When I open up the drawing on my computer, it plots perfectly. I attached a clip of it, the thick black is our drawing border, the viewport is where the color stops.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhile using AutoCAD 2008 LDD, I was able to set my point label size so that it looked the same in Model Space and Paper Space. I have my Model Space at 1:1, and my Paper Space Viewport set at the Scale Factor as needed, 1" = 50' i.e.. I now am using Civil 3D 2012 and have a decent grasp of Point Label Styles, the problem I am having is that when using the same parameters as mentioned before, my Point Label is at the right size in Model Space, setting the height at a size comparable to the Drawing Scale, such that if the Drawing Scale within the Viewport was 1" = 60', I would set the text size 4.8, but when doing this, it makes my Point Label text size huge.

We saw an option for Sketchy in the dropdown menu but I can't find any information about how to use it, or how to change the settings, or even what the intent is for it. View 2 Replies View RelatedFor my 3D scene, I have to use a texture file on the floor. If I use the only file, than it looks really boring and below par. What I want is, I want to generate some (around 6-8) texture files within the original texture file - so the colors of all the texture files remain same but only the texture varies.Likewise there are more than 500 texture files and I just can't do them manually. Is there any way out to do this in Photoshop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a lava texture and a ground texture. I'd like to be able to make some cracks on the ground texture that would show through the lava texture below it. Something like a cracked mud look. I would be using this for a game I'm making form some terrain textures. Are there any plugins that would aid in making these transparent cracks and perhaps even add depth to the cracks?
I guess a spider web where the spider was on crack would be something I'm looking for. Similar to the following image:

View 6 Replies View RelatedHow do I change a polygonal viewport to a rectangular viewport?
View 5 Replies View RelatedProblem: When I create a new viewport, another viewport's paperspace blanks out or disappears. When I copy a viewport over, the new VP doesn't show anything and you can't maximize/"enter" its paperspace; it's like a simple rectangle, but the properties box says it is indeed a viewport.
Ex. Viewport 1 shows the top view of an object, Viewport 2 shows the right side view... as soon as I add Viewport 3, the top view in VP 1 blacks out. I attempt to ReDraw, Regenerate, etc, but it doesn't re-appear. I've run Plot Preview to see if maybe it's just a fluke with the graphics card on my screen, but alas, even in plot preview the viewport is blanked out.
It almost seems like there is a limited number of viewports I can use.
Solution: Run the MaxActVP command and set the value to a number greater than the number of VPs you actually need. This particular file had that value set at 2; hence, why a new, third VP blanked out the first one.
I have a drawing with a viewport that fits to the page. And I created another smaller viewport over top that just shows the legend. Now when I try to double click inside the smaller viewport it always goes into the larger one. I have tried bringing the smaller one to the front but that didn't work. I know that I can clip the larger viewport around the smaller one or bring the legend right into paperspace or slid the smaller one off to the side work in it and slide it back. This is more out of curiosity of how to get into the smaller viewport.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did a test drawing with 4 viewports in paperspace.I frozen a layer in each viewport (as a viewport override, not global), and wrote code to gather info on layer overrides in viewports.The function takes in a database, and is generally used on drawings only open in memory:
public static bool GetLayerInfoFromDB2(Database db) { //do viewports on layoutstry {using (Transaction tr = db. Transaction Manager. Start Transaction()) { ObjectId ldid = db.LayoutDictionaryId;DBDictionary ld = (DBDictionary)tr.GetObject(ldid,
[code]....
the odd thing is it never finds the frozen viewports on the first viewport. It catches the others fine.I cannot see anything odd either, the counts of viewports and layers are all correct, and the drawing has no problems.Is there something that must be done to initialize the mechanism that reads viewport overrides?
how do you create a viewport within an existing viewport ?

BTW, after applying Service Pack 1, in Preference, the "Default transition effect" keeps going back to Random. I tried selecting cross fade but it keeps going back to Random!
