View 4 RepliesI'm trying to put particle flow presets from Max 2012 so it'll show up in 2014. I put them into the ParticleFlow Presets folder, but notice the defaults have .pfp name, and the old ones are .max files. How to get the old ones to populate into the dialogue for 2014?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to add smoke to a rocket using particle flow. However, while I have managed to do so, with only 400 shape facing particles (which look excellent), they seem to slow down the render about 10 fold than without.
The scene itself has 200,000 polygons with most, if not all, objects having mental ray Arch & Design materials on them. The particles however use a Standard material with particle age, gradient and noise maps. There is currently only one mr area spot light with raying shadows in the scene.
Also another thing is I would like the shape facing particles to be affected by backlighting but I've tried placing orange lights within the rocket boosters and this hasn't appeared to light up the particles in front of the booster towards the screen. I imagine the only way would be to use a material like mr Arch & Design to be translucent.
I am unable to remove the shortcuts from Particle Flow panel. I remove them and then close 3ds Max and then when I start it back up they are back in place.
This makes it so that I cannot properly use those shortcut keys. For instance CTRL ALT M opens up a Particle Flow menu instead of what I have it set to. But if I remove those shortcuts it works. Then I reset max and it is back!
I’m tying to make an Phaser system with Particle Flow.
What I would like is the following:
The particles first build up, then shoots out along a straight line even if the ship and target is moving, leaving a streak.
The phaser illuminates the scene.
Once it hits the shield (in this case), the particles spreads along this shield showing the curve in a smoke like texture.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile modeling I always take ref planes for modeling and texture projection.But while modeling I am facing a problem.
Let me tell the backdrop first I am modeling a female face from 5 image planes for which I have assigned 5 separate cams.
Now 4 of them r working fine but on of the image is coming in the way of the fifth cam.
Now I can easily put the object in layer or isolate etc but turning them on or off is a real pain in a** while modeling.
How can I get an object to follow another object as well as reorient when the parent is deformed? See the attached image. Here I have wrist band rigged by using the "Path Deform Binding" modifier. I want the metal part to follow it as well as reorient to the flat surface it sits on. Here I had to manually rotate the metal part which is tedious if I want to try several band states.

I'm trying to model a cable. I do it with cylinder and EP Curve. I want to set an object motion and Object Flow Path.
I fallow also tutorial but still getting weird result.
My cylinder doesnt fallow the curve along. See attached img.
I set my motion object to normal...also the axis are set so the cylinder moves along curve on time slider good. But when I set Flow Path (latice) the object fallows the curve just with other end.
have number of curved objects which makes a design but goes in straight way. what i want is to follow that grouped objects to a curve .
Power Clip option is not suitable for me as it reposition its original state. is there any other option which can make it in better way.
Is there a way to exclude single attributes from being defined in a object style? As example: i want to define an outline that does not change width of the objects, but everything else.
There is a small tick box right of every attribute with help text "None this object attribute is not defined by a custom style" but i can not mark it. My feeling is, that i need to switch on this tick box to get the result i need, but i can not. When i click on it, it just gives me a greyed out "Revert". When i try to make child styles, there is a way to break the connection to parent style with these tick boxes, but no luck.
Is it a bug? I tried it with X6, X6.1 and X6.2
I don't know how to phrase it correctly but the 3d camera tracker inside of After Effects will only apply key frames to the null object. This causes the footage to rotate around itself.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHave you developed a method or set of rules that has made working with large data sets / drawing files an enjoyable process? When working with an extremely large area, Map 3D tends to chug or lock up to the point where now I'm trying to rethink the "Proper" map setup and get opinions on your AutoCAD Map 3D - Mapping Best Practices.
I'm basically looking for comments, recommendations, and/or best practices when defining maps. If you have ever worked with an extremely large dataset or set of shape files and need to import the entities and the query from a drawing file (or maybe even multiple drawings), insert text, insert blocks with attributes. You'll know that this process can be time consuming when working with large datasets. Most staff that work with large data sets are moving to ArcGIS, which makes sense, but I'd rather do all my mapping / GIS with Map 3D.
So maybe setting up multiple drawings with each Layer in a separate drawing makes sense. (30 drawings in a central folder). The Task Pane option is not my preference. I'd prefer all drawings files to be setup with attribute data in-place and stored in a central folder. From there I will proceed with the setup of an extensive Query setup that will generate various maps by altering properties and inserting text from various object data. Essentially loading a saved query that can be ran with updated data to regenerate the labels in some instances.

I am interested in getting into the programming end of game design and was hoping to get decent at working with animations in the process. I have downloaded tons of fantastic models/scenes, but all of them are single objects and that makes animation difficult. Primarily, I am working with biped models and need to be able to move their limbs independently and faces where I need features to be able to be moved simultaneously in different ways.
I have looked up tons of tutorials and have the concept of how to move independent objects through the time frame, but I have no clue how to take a single object, break down its components, and use them individually while still having them be linked. Again, I know how to make simple objects and join those objects at pivots, I just seem to be having trouble working backwards.
I tried working with the object as editable mesh and had trouble getting all of the wires into objects and maintaining any sort of realism in animation as things seemed to be willing to go all over the place (having done a bad job at attaching the mesh into good objects), is there a better way than clicking and dragging and hoping you go everything you needed without things you don't?. I was hoping there was a way place pivot joints within your model and then connect those pivot points with bones.
where I could get prefabbed scenes with models created specifically for animations. I could be missing something completely here, but there has to be a way to animate individual components of single objects, or else the purpose of having single object models is lost to me .

PROBLEM: When I go to select the objects as as a SINGLE OBJECT, each object within the group is selectable -- as if they were not grouped.Shouldn't it be that when I select ANY of the objects within the group ALL OBJECTS in the group get selected, and not just each object?
is there any way of making one object appear in multiple places?
The problem is that we are designing some objects (call them "buttons") whose design we have not finalized how they will look yet.
i.e. The shape, size, layout of components of these buttons is still undecided, although we know that they will be in use in a large number of places (on a large number of pages).
So what I want is to have a single master copy of the object that I can edit in one place, and for those changes to ripple out across multiple places on multiple pages.
P.S. I thought Edit ==> Clone Shape would do this, but it appears to create separate, un-linked copies. In fact all it seems to do is in effect the same as Control/C and then Control/Shift/V!
I'm new to 3DS Max. Let's say I draw a box, then add many height dividers. I then apply a bend modification to the box until it resembles an arch.
Let's now say I want to take a part of this object - maybe the left half - and apply further mods to only that part. How do I "divide" an object into sub-objects?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 20 pieces of geometry that when assembled create a single object. In my layers window, it shows all 20 pieces under a single layer. When i attach all object so create a single object, all the layers "sub-layers" stay intact.
I have never noticed this before, but would have assumed that the layer would have been consolidated to reflect the singular object in my viewport. Is Max acting the way it should?

View 9 Replies View Relatedi have 2 square shapes on my artborad. each square shape has its own gradient fill. i would like to merge these 2 shapes to form a single shape. not a groupe of shapes, but a single, flattened (compounded?) object.
the gradient of the first square includes a zero-alpha. the second image is the two shapes simply layered, but i want to basically flatten them together to form one shape.
what steps are involved in merging these shapes to form one shape so that their gradients are unaffected by merging with the other?
I need to change the color of the M and [R] in this text, allow me to set the stage.
To create this symbol you type the Letter M, change the font to our companys symbol text and the following characters then follow. However when editing the text it is recognized as a single character. I have changed the text to outlines, however it still changes every letter when I change the color. I have went into isolation mode and it still changes every color.
where I can't use the move tool with the mouse properly. I'll go and select a single item on a layer and then try to move it with the mouse (move tool). I've done this before and still do it all the time on Photoshop on my other machines. However, on my laptop it won't work. I grab the single object I want to move and the second I move it, it defaults to moving every single layer in my file.
