I'm new to 3ds max. Why on some objects when you try to select elements off the object only a single poly is picked when on other objects whole elements or blocks are picked?

PROBLEM: When I go to select the objects as as a SINGLE OBJECT, each object within the group is selectable -- as if they were not grouped.Shouldn't it be that when I select ANY of the objects within the group ALL OBJECTS in the group get selected, and not just each object?
I'm new to 3DS Max. Let's say I draw a box, then add many height dividers. I then apply a bend modification to the box until it resembles an arch.
Let's now say I want to take a part of this object - maybe the left half - and apply further mods to only that part. How do I "divide" an object into sub-objects?
where I can't use the move tool with the mouse properly. I'll go and select a single item on a layer and then try to move it with the mouse (move tool). I've done this before and still do it all the time on Photoshop on my other machines. However, on my laptop it won't work. I grab the single object I want to move and the second I move it, it defaults to moving every single layer in my file.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I pick the properties command sometimes the box comes up blank and the "Esc" key has to be pressed to bring up the box. When the box does come up the properties of a picked object does show and you cannot change the properties of the picked object. I am runnung AutoCadLT 2014.

Check attached file green and red line and make a single poly line instead of 2 red or green line.
I have just upgraded to Elements 12 from version 6 and find that if I select a file in the organizer, select "Edit with Photoshop Elements editor", carry out the editing and save the file with the boxes for "include in elements organizer" and "Save in Version Set with original" checked the edited photo is not automatically included in the organizer nor stacked. On returning to the Organizer it tells me that a new photo has been found in the watched folders and I have to import it and stack it manually.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis isnt so much of a problem as an annoyance. When I try to make poly lines from connected single lines my procedure is as follows...
pedit, right click, multiple, select lines/objects, enter, yes, join x 3, esc
My annoyance is if i hit join once it will not make the lines into polylines, if i hit join 3 times or so and then esc it will.
It just doesnt seem that is right and I think i might be missing something. I have been doing pedit this way for a long time adn its probably finally time to figure this one out.

I have a box which I want to convert all 6 sides/polys to their own object.
I activated the Poly Count from the Display Menu; but it shows the components that are in the view at the moment. I'd like to know instead if there is a way to display the number of the components selected.

Converted the object to edit poly and duplicated + attached all the piece.
So I have this one object that is really long and this is the rail of the whole staircase.
Now I created a spline and once I select the object and add a Path Deform, the object isn't rotating correctly along the spline. At the beginning of the spline its @ 90 degrees and further down it starts to spin.
How do I make it so it's always 90 degrees to the ground?

Is there a way to exclude single attributes from being defined in a object style? As example: i want to define an outline that does not change width of the objects, but everything else.
There is a small tick box right of every attribute with help text "None this object attribute is not defined by a custom style" but i can not mark it. My feeling is, that i need to switch on this tick box to get the result i need, but i can not. When i click on it, it just gives me a greyed out "Revert". When i try to make child styles, there is a way to break the connection to parent style with these tick boxes, but no luck.
Is it a bug? I tried it with X6, X6.1 and X6.2
how to switch a texture at certain keys, or Keyframe a file texture on a shader at one key and then change the file texture to something else on a later frame, on the same polygon face. Like this...
How to switch or change these two images at different textures at different frames.
Click animation. Here I just keyframed and switched two poly planes. But I want to swap out the textures by keyframing them instead.
In mesh edit mode, when you assign a material to the selection, it works as expected, it assigns the material only to what is selected, for example, a face.
In poly edit mode, it works differently, if you try the same approach it assigns the material to the entire object and you have to deal with multi-materials and material IDs to achieve that, what is very boring and totally unintuitive imho.
Is there an option to make the poly editing mode work like the mesh editing mode, or at least another way to achieve the same result in a intuitive or at least 'visual' fashion?
When ever i do that i get an unexpected number of edges on an object.

I can rig it now but at the time of animation i know it will be a problem while animating it. It will lag while moving its controls. I have seen people animating with low mesh and while rendering they use high mesh. Do, i have to create a low poly version of my model?. If yes, Then i have to paint weight twice. low poly one and the high poly one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use the sculpt layer symmetry feature to flip some detail onto another side of my model. Mudbox tells me that symmetry is not yet initialized. Some searching told me that I need to set the topological axis for the model. Which in turn tells me I need to select two adjacent faces.
The problem is that using Shift + S does not select a single face rather it selects the one under my cursor and the surrounding faces. Is there another way to select a single face?

In Photoshop CC it's default behaviour to affect all shapes (in seperate layers) within the selected area. I often want to change some anchor points on a single rounded rectangle, for example, to make it fit perfectly.
Is there any way, without selecting "isolate layers", to restrict the selection to the currently selected shape layer?
I can use the "/" key to deselecting the current photo but how do I select the current photo with the keyboard? Usually the space bar is used for this but that displays the image. Is the only way to select the current photo by using the mouse?

Now I would like to make the curve path in visible, and I was able to search for instructions on how to do that except that I'm finding them mystifying. I read "you can select a single item inside a group with Ctrl click," but when I go to the group in the layers gallery, the text and curve are treated as one item, and I see no way to separate the two.
