3ds Max :: Import Objects To Load Their Correct Material Properties?
Feb 24, 2014
I have a problem trying to import objects to load their correct material properties. The textures are all there but I have to reset there specular properties everytime. Even if I import the same object straight after I export it with the materials properly set, I still have to reset them all over again. Is there a setting somewhere like in Customize that I can change to make the objects maintain their properties on import?

When I select any object, my quick properties tab is blank and my properties tab doesn't register anything. Also, I get an error message when I go into my CUI to try to modify the quick properties tab. Pretty frustrating. I've attached a couple of images for reference. I've repaired, re-installed and unistalled and re-installed and still have the same probelm.

A user showed me today that she cannot see any properties for a wall, door, or other AEC object in the Properties palette.
Some options like height, width, etc. are shown, but not layer, style, etc. from the General portion of the Basic tab.
Is this going to be a reinstall scenario or is there a fix for this?

I'm using Inventor 2013. For some reason the material in a sheet metal part is not linked to the Sheet Metal Rule.
In the attachment you see on the left side that the material TRPL5-7 (that's a material I created) is linked to the Sheet Metal Rule TRAANPLAAT_5_7. But if I select TRAANPLAAT_5_7 as Sheet Metal Rule in Sheet Metal Defaults (see right picture in attachment) the Material doesn't change to TRPL5-7.

Recently I have Installed Autodesk Inventor Proffessional 2013 SP 1.1 Update 2 on few new systems, it is not showing correct Material Appearance (Customised Material). I observed that it is not browsing images from correct folder location.
Following image showing error.
Older systms showing correct appearnace and it takes picture from following location shown in image.
I checked Application Options>File>Design Data (Styles, etc.) for new systems showing correct folder location i.e. From User>Public Documents.
System: Autodesk Inventor Proffesional 2013 SP 1.1 Update 2

I have an issue exporting my AutoCAD civil 3d model to 3d dwf. I have exported my model to 3d DWF and am viewing it in Navisworks. When the model is viewed in the full render mode the material surface is not in the correct place, it appears to several hundred units (the model is several km2) lower in the Y direction then it should be. In autocad civil 3d when the surface is selected and displayed in the object viewer it is displayed correctly. Is there any reason why this is happening or a workaround to fix it when exporting.
Notes: AutoCAD Civil 3d 2012. Navisworks 2012. Surface render material is a Jpeg. When I originally referenced the Jpeg the surface was mirrored (I understand this is a common problem with the software) and I had to mirror it along the X axis so that the Image was upside down but the material viewed correctly. It is not upside down in the 3d DWF, just moved down.

I was performing some FEA analysis and was getting some strange results. So I investigated into my material properties to find that mine were INCORRECT! I looked at some of my co workers material libraries and they seemed to be correct. How do I go about possibly resetting my material properties. I just installed inventor 2014 about a week or 2 ago. I have attached a screen shot of the incorrect material properties.

I've got a question about the key generating function in inventor.
I'm trying to design some keys in a shaft for a project in working on. In that design the steel alloy I'm using is important so that the design doesn't fail. The only problem is Inventor uses some unit called "Allowable Pressure" to perform this calculation. All the material data sheets I've looked at don't have a material property by that name. Is this a material property or perhaps something else?

I have created a door family that has a concrete fill that replaces the insulation in an insulated precast wall. When I cut a section through the jambs looking down it looks correct but when the section is looking up the concrete fill pattern is not visible.
I would typically cut my sections looking up so that the exterior face is down in the view as it will be cast.

I am having trouble changing a property of a solid body in one of my iparts. I have a concrete block which has been created as an ipart and 6 bars running through the concrete block. I am looking to change the material properties of the bars to Alloy Steel but i'm having trouble finding any option to do so. I have changed the material properties within the ipart table to concrete, i'm not sure if this is conflicting it.

I am looking for ways to add actual custom materials - not (just) in appearance, but in actual material properties (elasticity, etc). I have looked at wiki and searched this forum (and others) but I haven't been able to find anything of the sort... but the properties of the few aluminium alloys available are not those that we use... besides that we need them at specific temperature ranges (and honestly, I haven't been able to find any temperature controls in the FEA yet either.) And.. is there a more direct, faster, way to assign materials then [big I Pro button] > iPropperties > Physical? Right click on the solid and selecting "material" seems so much more ideal.

I created a pipe network using Civil 3D 2011 and we upgraded to 2012 in the middle of the process.
I've always been able to edit the MATERIAL of the pipe for (I like to add class and type in this column)
It worked fine in 2011 as you can see in the first image.
But in 2012, the material changes that I added in 2011 chow up, but I can't edit them or revise them.
it causes me to have to label my pipes in the label editor instead of assigning the material property in the pipe properties with-in my pipe network.
Currently operating Autodesk Civil 3D 2012, AutoCAD 2012, Bentley MicroStation V8i

why the script below doesn`t change Physical material properties? It changes the thickness of the part, but not material properties on the BOM...
ShThk = InputListBox("Sheet Thickness", MultiValue.List("ShThk"), ShThk, Title := "Choose Thickness", ListName := "Thickness")
' material thickness from multi-value parameter called ShThk
If ShThk = 0.3125 Then
SheetMetal.SetActiveStyle("5/16"& Chr(34))
Else if ShThk = 0.25 Then
SheetMetal.SetActiveStyle("1/4"& Chr(34))
Else if ShThk = 0.1345 Then
SheetMetal.SetActiveStyle("10ga")
else if ShThk = 0.105 Then
SheetMetal.SetActiveStyle("12ga")
else if ShThk = 0.1793 Then
SheetMetal.SetActiveStyle("7ga")
End If

how Inventor Materials are used in your companies, what is your customization level and usage level.Do you use Inventor Materials as they come out of the box ?Do you create your own materials?
Do you modify the properties of existing Inventor materials without changing the material name?Do you show material names on 2D drawings (in parts list etc)?

Is there anyway to animate fading in/out of objects when using this material? I searched and couldn't find something that worked. I tried creating a blend material but that didn't seem to work.
edit: actually blending materials works. i thought the values went from 0 to 1.0. but it's from 0 to 100. but the render time is crazy long. are there any more efficient methods?

how to apply materials to objects. I have made my objects and am ready to apply a material to them. I typed materials into command and the table pops up where you can render a material. I then chose my material and i see it at the bottom of the table where i can edit. All is good at this point. Now, I go back to top of table and choose apply material to objects and a little paint brush icon appears. I go and try to highlight objects and it does but when i click nothing happens. Am I missing something or is there another approach?
Just in case, I am drawing a basketball court and want to put a wood floor down. I went to the material list and chose one of the woods/plastics.

I created objects and extruded them and then I adding materials from the Autocad 2011 material library. I added brick to a wall and I was wondering what command I would have to type in to "scale" the brick size or just have a way so that the material will appear larger on the object because the bricks are quite small.

When an object in an XRef is tagged (and the object has an object based PSD) the tag will not update to reflect changes made in the XRef.
This can be fixed in the XRef by running the PropertyDataBrowser command and unticking the Overrides (shown in the leftmost tickbox when two tick boxes present).
Any automatic way to keep the tags up to date? I have attached my VB.Net code attempt for this. It almost works BUT the MultiViewBlock Overrides are ReadOnly.

I cannot convince Lightroom 4.1 running on Windows 7 to import to the drive given in Catalog Settings>Location. It invariably imports to the drive where the Lightroom application resides... correct folder name but wrong drive. I've checked everything, and both the Windows Users Photo folder and Windows Photo Library folders are pointing to the correct drive as well.

I am usually fine with changin the materials by going to visibility settings- imports and changing the materials.
However I have a file where I cannot change the material no matter what I do. I tried importing it as a family, I tried exploding the dwg, I tried setting the layers to 'color by layer'. It is beyond me
There is another file where I can only change some layers but not the others.

I wish to import from a TOPCON file. The points are from a GPS unit and are in standard form (easting, northing and elevation). I have been able in import the points into AutoCAD, and although they are in the correct location relative to each other, their geographical information has been altered (ie, the old coordinates are lost, and any measurements between points are now completely inaccurate).
I am working in metric units, and I think the problem may be that when I import the block, it comes in with 'block units' in inches. I cannot see how to change this. I also cannot select 'locate using geographical information' when I insert the block, which I think may be important in preserving geographical information.
