I guess state sets come from maya and in maya we can Copy render layer instead of setting it up all again and again...
How can I copy state set in 3ds max so I can work quicker? Where is copy button?
am working with a purchased version of 3ds Max 2012, and state sets are not showing up in the rendering menu. Also, there is no state set function in the 3dsmax.ini file to be set to true, which is what this link says to do initialize state set to true
It says it comes with advantage pack version of 3ds Max 2012, so are there versions without it installed?
I am trying to utilize state sets so that I don't have to re render an entire scene to change one thing. Â For instance, in the attached image, I need to keep re rendering the floor patterns. Â So I created a state set where only the floor renders but obviously includes reflections and everything else from the model. Â I am getting these black clouds showing up though that I can't figure out what it is or where they are coming from. Â

I have just been turning off the other objects "Visible to Camera" Â to acheive this. Â what could be causing these clouds coming from the second floor?
For some reason, when I go to open my latest MAX2014 file... the State Sets dialog shows briefly on the screen while the file is being opened but then disappears just before the file finishes opening.
I don't use State Sets so I'm not sure why this dialog is showing.
Noticed that stats sets didnt wotk with vray properties? from kens Blog:

We've started using State Sets to manage the output of render elements from our scenes and all was looking great UNTIL we noticed a rather nasty bug.
I hope I can describe this clearly. Here goes:
I have created 3 State Sets as follows:
Beauty
Outputting/saving a bitmap to ".eautyFrame_Beauty_.jpg" from the Render Output 'Save File' section.
No Render Elements enabled.
Reflection
No Ouput/file saved from the Render Output 'Save File' section.
Reflection Render Element enabled and outputting a bitmap to ".RefFrame_Ref_.jpg"
AO
Outputting/saving a bitmap to ".AOFrame_AO_.jpg"
AO material in Material Override section enabled.
Exposure Control deactivated.
Now when I switch between these state sets by clicking on the green arrows in the State Sets dialogue the 'output path' from the Beauty or AO state set gets transposed onto the output path in the Reflection Render Element in the Reflection state set.
It seems that Max 'recreates' the Render element each time the green arrow for that state set is clicked and any active Render Element inherits the output path from the previously active state set.
This effectively renders them unworkable for managing Render Elements.
I've just installed the 3ds max 2012 Subscription Advantage Pack, the State Set is not showing in the Render Menu.

> QSELECT - PolyFace Mesh - Select All
> Explode
I get a question if I want to "Disregard DrawingOrder for this operation due to the fact that it might take some time", by selecting "Yes" the process takes ~10 minutes (one explode).With an VBA automation I do the following:
> Create a selection set of all PolyFace meshes
> Explode each obj (2000 times) in the selection set with SendCommand (as .Explode does not work on polyface mesh objects)
I have waited hours for the same process (might be due to multiple explodes and/or screen updating taking place).I have always though automation is faster than manual work, but this proved me wrong.So to the questions:
1. How can I prevent screen updating in VBA (disregard draw order) during "long actions"
2. Is there a better way to explode a selection set than looping through each and every object calling explode (obj.handle)
For one drawing I can do it in 10 minutes, but I have 50 drawings with the need to explode this, having an automation run over night sounds great, but having it take 6x+ times longer for each drawing causes the night not to be long enough.

I cant figure out how to add 3rd action on my button, to show an active state (basically freeze the buttonts opacity until the next button is clicked)Â while this portion of the stage is being visited.
So I figured out how state set works.
Is possible enable/disable a state set everytime I change a scene state?
What are the rules for how elements (specifically, collections and other collection sets) are ordered within a collection set?

I was trying to get a collection to appear at the top of the list of items in a collection set, but it seems to get stuffed below all the other collection sets regardless of the name given to the collection.
cs6 64bit comes with 20 history state

I have an image with a long history palette. I have been working with a burn tool. Accidentally I bumped the keyboard, and up comes the image with a new History State, just the Burn Tool with the History Brush. one line. I have none of the others. So, I dump that one in the garbage can. Slight name change but still the Burn Tool Histoy State. I notice the same statement on a second bar at the top, and the same bar having the minimize etc buttons. So, I click the lower bar, now I have an image with all the history states. I save the History state version and exit that screen. Now when I open the History tab, it opens behind the image! I reopen the saved History State image, same thing. All I can do is save the work, exit PS and start it again. The behavior is normal now, but of course minus the history states.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm working with AutoCAD LT 2013. Just recently my layer State has not allowed me access. When I try to add a layer or edit a layer I can't get access and I get a pop-up note which reads:
"ALL LAYERS ALREADY INCLUDED IN THIS LAYER STATE. NO LAYERS CAN BE ADDED"
When I access layer states manager I can add a new layer-BUT it does not show up in Layers. Acts like the Layer State is Frozen to further modifications.
I am looking for a way to save a viewport state so I can switch between views of different parts of my drawing easily. This includes layer state switching and camera position. I have looked around on Google but cant seem to find anything. I'm after something similar to the scenes feature in Sketchup.

I tried changing a lot of them in the CUI Ribbon Properties from Full to Merged but now when I select anything the program slows down to a crawl. My reason is that its really not that convenient for ACA to keep switching back and forth just because I select an object. I use a lot of hot key’s but there are many commands on the Home Ribbon tab that I use 99 percent of the time at selection and I find it a royal pain in the ars to keep switching it back to get to the command I need. I’m using 2011 ACA. OS is Windows 7. 64 bit and 10 GB of Ram

I want to remove them out of my preset list because i allready know how to remove them one by one... but when i remove them one by one they don't get removed out of my preset list. So can someone please help me with this problem? I've allready tried to remove them out of the map with brushes but they still stay there. I've also tried with uninstalling but that doens't work either. So can someone please help me with this?? View 11 Replies View RelatedOk, I need to make a main layer set and another layer set within that main set so its a kind of sub set. But for some reason photoshop simply refuses to do it, I can make two layer sets fine but it wont let me drag one of the sets inside the other set, it will only drag to above the set or below it, not inside it.
Looking at the picture, if I try to drag set two into set one so its inside set one it will not do it. You cant see it on the screenshot but the cursor turns into a grey circle with a cross through the middle.
Is there supposed to be some kind of setting to allow me to do this or is my photoshop completely screwed up? I am using PS7

So I basically unwrapped my model and moved my UV islands into different 'quadrants' (uv tiles). Q: is this all that is required to set up the tiles correctly?
If I then export this object as an obj or an fbx into mudbox the uv view only shows 1 tile?
basically i want to texture a large landscape in mudbox and 1 4k map wil not cut it, i need to split it up into 4 x 4k maps to get enough res.
i had custom rigs with a character set to store our animations in clips. now i want to do the same with the new humanIK rig. the documentation is not very big on this. it just covers the retarget workflow.which nodes do i have to include in my character sets, so i can store my animations in one file?(retargeted and classic hand animated) or is there any documentation i overlooked on this?

I use LR to publish to Flickr but in LR5 I cannot see my photoset in the publish section. Have I done something wrong or do they just not transfer from 3.6?

I cannot remember whether I used 'Open Catalogue' or 'Import from another catalogue' for upgrading.
Upgrading from LR3 to LR4.

The import from another catalog seems to work with getting all my photos in to LR4, however what doesn't come across in the import are all my Collection Sets and the Collections within. It's not across the board. Some come in, but some don't. I've tried a few different ways of importing and the missing collections are different each time.Â

I use collection sets and smart collections to organize and work through all my jobs. Not having them cross over to LR4 just doesn't work for me. I've optimized, re-exported, re-imported.
crashes in VSX2 (and all previous versions for that matter). At Corel's suggestion I installed the trial version of X5. In the meantime, I had my X2 working a lot better.
But I thought I'd take a look at X5 and see how it looked, since I'd gone to all the trouble of installing it. In order to try it out, I opened some of my projects and played with them a bit. I didn't mean to save them, but apparently I must have because now I can no longer open them in X2. Windows explorer thinks they are X2 project files, but when I try to open them in X2 nothing comes up. Then I try to open them in X5, and sure enough there they are. Project properties confirms they are now X5 project files. I tried to do a save as, but the only options are X5, X4 and X3. No choice for X2.
This is a problem because I haven't decided if I want to buy X5 or not. If I do, fine, but I don't want to be forced into it just so I can work on my old projects. Is there any way to convert them back to a format that X2 will open?
