I am trying to utilize state sets so that I don't have to re render an entire scene to change one thing. Â For instance, in the attached image, I need to keep re rendering the floor patterns. Â So I created a state set where only the floor renders but obviously includes reflections and everything else from the model. Â I am getting these black clouds showing up though that I can't figure out what it is or where they are coming from. Â

I have just been turning off the other objects "Visible to Camera" Â to acheive this. Â what could be causing these clouds coming from the second floor?
am working with a purchased version of 3ds Max 2012, and state sets are not showing up in the rendering menu. Also, there is no state set function in the 3dsmax.ini file to be set to true, which is what this link says to do initialize state set to true
It says it comes with advantage pack version of 3ds Max 2012, so are there versions without it installed?
clarify if State Sets work or not? Are they a non feature that should never be used? Â Every time I use them on any job they corrupt and loose all render settings. Â 3dsMax 2014 sp3
For some reason, when I go to open my latest MAX2014 file... the State Sets dialog shows briefly on the screen while the file is being opened but then disappears just before the file finishes opening.
I don't use State Sets so I'm not sure why this dialog is showing.
Noticed that stats sets didnt wotk with vray properties? from kens Blog:

We've started using State Sets to manage the output of render elements from our scenes and all was looking great UNTIL we noticed a rather nasty bug.
I hope I can describe this clearly. Here goes:
I have created 3 State Sets as follows:
Beauty Outputting/saving a bitmap to ".eautyFrame_Beauty_.jpg" from the Render Output 'Save File' section. No Render Elements enabled.
Reflection No Ouput/file saved from the Render Output 'Save File' section. Reflection Render Element enabled and outputting a bitmap to ".RefFrame_Ref_.jpg"
AO Outputting/saving a bitmap to ".AOFrame_AO_.jpg" AO material in Material Override section enabled. Exposure Control deactivated.
Now when I switch between these state sets by clicking on the green arrows in the State Sets dialogue the 'output path' from the Beauty or AO state set gets transposed onto the output path in the Reflection Render Element in the Reflection state set.
It seems that Max 'recreates' the Render element each time the green arrow for that state set is clicked and any active Render Element inherits the output path from the previously active state set.
This effectively renders them unworkable for managing Render Elements.
IÂ have a button with the following actions: Â click: sym.play(2000) Â ;mouseover: var mySymbolObject = sym.getSymbol("Guns_Nav") ;sym.$("Guns_Nav").css({opacity:.3});Â mouseout:var mySymbolObject = sym.getSymbol("Guns_Nav") ;sym.$("Guns_Nav").css({opacity:1}); Â I cant figure out how to add 3rd action on my button, to show an active state (basically freeze the buttonts opacity until the next button is clicked)Â while this portion of the stage is being visited.
I am trying to reprocess some videos that I created several years ago that utilize AVI files, all of which are 640x480 15 FPS. I load the VSP file and all of the video clips load fine. I have no problems viewing the AVI files in Windows or in other video editing programs. If I try to view a clip in VS, VS Pro X4 aborts. If I just try to generate a video file (same as first clip), I get the message "No combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection."
I've also noted the VS X4 aborts if I try to utilize AVI files generated on my PC from video screen capture programs.
Just bought my first SSD drive (240GIG)and are about to set it up for the purpose of doing any Adobe CC work the fastest I can. Â Obviously I have to install the Windows 7 Pro system onto the drive and Adobe files, I imagine that any work Adobe .psd/work files I should also keep on the drive? Â So partition it like C: Windows 100GIG D: Program Files and Work Files 140GIG Â Or should I add another drive E: so I can set scratch disks to it? Or can scratch disks just utilize my old non SSD drive? I imagine getting everything onto SSD would be the way to go, but thats only guessing.
I have CS6 and need to be able to utilize the open GL option but not sure what I need to do to make this work...trying to bring a 3D pdf into photpshop for animation. Screen simply reads "enable 3D view'.
What are the rules for how elements (specifically, collections and other collection sets) are ordered within a collection set? Â I was trying to get a collection to appear at the top of the list of items in a collection set, but it seems to get stuffed below all the other collection sets regardless of the name given to the collection.
I need to upgrade my graphics card. Question can either Photoshop CS5 or Light room 5 utilize double precision capable GPUs?  Background: Application- photographic RAW files editing (no video editing.) Software- Photoshop version CS5 and Light room version 4, OS- windows 7 64bit, Hardware- Asus P8P67 Deluxe LGA 1155, Intel Core i5 2400 processor, 16GB SDRAM, SSD (apps/temp files), HD (archives), current video card- Quatro FX 1500.
I am trying to utilize Trimble's ability to export Points to an XML file.  The XML file contains some additional Attribute data. I have created the new Point UDP's and also Created a new Point File Format. Here lies the Problem, when I go to the Insert Tab in the Ribbon and pick import from XML. It gives me no choices to select a Point File Format? It just imports the file with just PNEZD data only, and not my additional Attributes.Â
I have an image with a long history palette. I have been working with a burn tool. Accidentally I bumped the keyboard, and up comes the image with a new History State, just the Burn Tool with the History Brush. one line. I have none of the others. So, I dump that one in the garbage can. Slight name change but still the Burn Tool Histoy State. I notice the same statement on a second bar at the top, and the same bar having the minimize etc buttons. So, I click the lower bar, now I have an image with all the history states. I save the History state version and exit that screen. Now when I open the History tab, it opens behind the image! I reopen the saved History State image, same thing. All I can do is save the work, exit PS and start it again. The behavior is normal now, but of course minus the history states.
Is it impossible to create a sub-set in the Layers Palate of Photoshop 6.0? I have a folder (set) I'm using for my navigation buttons, but want to further organize them into individual buttons. But when I try to create a new set and drag it into the existing set nothing happens.
have they removed the layer set feature? No where do see any option for a new layer set. You could create one from linked layers before and I don't see it.
I'm working with AutoCAD LT 2013. Just recently my layer State has not allowed me access. When I try to add a layer or edit a layer I can't get access and I get a pop-up note which reads:
"ALL LAYERS ALREADY INCLUDED IN THIS LAYER STATE. NO LAYERS CAN BE ADDED"
When I access layer states manager I can add a new layer-BUT it does not show up in Layers. Acts like the Layer State is Frozen to further modifications.
I am looking for a way to save a viewport state so I can switch between views of different parts of my drawing easily. This includes layer state switching and camera position. I have looked around on Google but cant seem to find anything. I'm after something similar to the scenes feature in Sketchup.
Is there any way to turn off the Contextual tab state. I tried changing a lot of them in the CUI Ribbon Properties from Full to Merged but now when I select anything the program slows down to a crawl. My reason is that its really not that convenient for ACA to keep switching back and forth just because I select an object. I use a lot of hot key’s but there are many commands on the Home Ribbon tab that I use 99 percent of the time at selection and I find it a royal pain in the ars to keep switching it back to get to the command I need. I’m using 2011 ACA. OS is Windows 7. 64 bit and 10 GB of Ram
When I restore a saved layer state in one viewport the adjacent viewport (with a different saved layer state) changes. I also don’t seem to be able to save these edited layer states so that they retain my edits.
I've been able to find very little documentation (mostly just user requests) about having multiple guide sets in Photoshop. I really think this would be a useful tool.
Anyone know of a way to print out a list of brush sets like you can print out a list of fonts? I am tired of having to go and look all over the place for the brush that I need.
I want to remove my brushes because i got too many.. I can't see them all on my preset list. I want to remove them out of my preset list because i allready know how to remove them one by one... but when i remove them one by one they don't get removed out of my preset list. So can someone please help me with this problem? I've allready tried to remove them out of the map with brushes but they still stay there. I've also tried with uninstalling but that doens't work either. So can someone please help me with this?? Ok, I need to make a main layer set and another layer set within that main set so its a kind of sub set. But for some reason photoshop simply refuses to do it, I can make two layer sets fine but it wont let me drag one of the sets inside the other set, it will only drag to above the set or below it, not inside it.
Looking at the picture, if I try to drag set two into set one so its inside set one it will not do it. You cant see it on the screenshot but the cursor turns into a grey circle with a cross through the middle.
Is there supposed to be some kind of setting to allow me to do this or is my photoshop completely screwed up? I am using PS7
I don't know how or when this happened, but i lost almost all my default Modifier Sets.Reverting/Resetting the whole GUI didnd't work at all.How can i get them back, without reinstalling Max?
