VideoStudio :: Video And Audio Drift Out Of Sync On DVD
Jan 29, 2013I was following the old instructions on the recommended way of working with UVS10+ re DVD creation, i.e. do the work on the project save as a video file then come back into UVS10+ with a new project with nothing in the timeline (old computer Win XP, for burning I have a video editing profile) when ready to go into burn phase. In burn phase did the title, added transitions between the 10 clips, let UVS10+ auto add chapters between clips.
Kept all burn phase properties the same as the original, with smart render (no re-render of compatible MPEG2).
Burnt it on to a DL disc, all seemed hunky dory (but took ages to do the title) until came to play it, and then I found that the sound had gone progressively out of sync on the DVD.
The video files are kept on an external hard drive connected via USB. To be honest the old XP computer does run very slow now, as they all do with time as leeches attach themselves and drain speed and resources.
My question is what are the usual suspects for sync problems ? Data transfer from external hard drive ? Project settings in burn phase different from edit phase ?
Would it be better to create an iso on the internal C-Drive, then burn from the iso ? NB whatever USB port I attach devices to front/rear etc. I have always got the message this device can run faster, searched the net tried all the tips to no avail.
However this did not prevent me from creating single layer DVDs without sync problems in the past using this set-up/way of working, but PC is way slower now.
I guess the PC's effective speed might be in the frame ? How far back will the 'rot' go ?
Should I go as far back as putting the converted clips into the time line in the edit phase (totally new project), or will the VSP project/video files be ok, i.e. problem at data transfer/burn stage.
I'm thinking about re-doing the XP user profile to ensure that later installs have not cluttered all the profiles on the machine, i.e. including the video editing profile.

Apr 29, 2011I've a large number of DV AVI (Type 2) files I've edited several times using VS. But in the last couple of days X3 has stopped loading them into the project timeline. I suspect I have inadvertently deleted, or unlinked, the Type 2 codec. Strangely, the files play OK with Media Player, it's just X3 that's refusing to work! I've reinstalled X3 but that's not made any difference. How do I identify the codecs available?

In the past what I've done is lay the firstone on the main timeline and then cropped where necessary to allow cutting to the overlays in tracks 2 and/or 3 as needed. This however proves to be rather time consuming and occasionally I get timing issues.
is there a facility in VS X4 to lay both tracks side by side (losing the audio from one of them) and then block out sections as required by (eg) making the overlay transparent, and thus keep the timing the same all through a piece...?
VideoStudio :: X3 Won't Load Projects That Would Load Before
Dec 24, 2010I have a project that suddenly won't load. I have 25 versions of it, I save it under a new file name each time in case I need to go back to an older version.
Trouble is most of the versions won't load! Only the very early versions will load. Some of the later version start to load then disappear.
Hardware hasn't changed on the PC, maybe the video drivers have been updated, thats about it.

Dec 15, 2011I'm using both Lightroom 3.5 and Photoshop CS5 on a 64-bit Windowx XP-Pro system with 8GB of RAM and plenty of disk space.
I use an X-rite color checker to generate custom camera profiles whenever I do portraits or other color critical photo sessions. The camera profile is generally placed in the "Documents and Settings...{user...}Application DataAdobeCameraRawCameraProfiles " folder.
When I try to apply a profile in either lightroom or ACR the newely created profile is not visible in the camera profile drop-down box. When I check to see if the profile exists in the appropriate folder, it does.
I've used color profiles before and have always been able to create and select a profile. Now I'm no longer able to do this. I would prefer to not re-install all my Adobe software since then I'd have to reinstall all the updates and plug-ins.
How can I get lightroom and ACR to see these profiles and use them?

Nov 3, 2012We're using AutoCAD 2013 via a Citrix XenApp server. We have a strange issue where the pointer continues to drift for a few seconds when rapidly drawing lines. This makes it very hard to draw with any speed because we have to keep waiting for the pointer to stop moving.
We've already followed the guidelines here, but they made no noticeable difference. The XenApp server has plenty of spare CPU and RAM. How we can stop this happening?

For my particular workflow, I find that loading thumbnails as step 1 of the import process to not be of much value for me.
I would prefer to load all images from the camera CF card directly into my "Import" folder in Lightroom without having to first view and select images for import.
Step 2 for me would then distribute the images into other named folders in LR prior to the development, skipping the thumbnail phase of the process.
So, the Q: Is there any setting that allows importation into a selected folder in LR without first going through the thumbnail process?

Oct 23, 2012I have VS12. I downloaded the trial version of X5, mainly to see if it could read my VS12 files. It could. I used X5 to render a VS12 file that had continually crashed when I tried to rendered it with VS12. Not only did it render it successfully, but it did it about twice as fast as VS12 - great. However, that was yesterday. Today I've been trying to reload the original file into X5 again & I just get the message "File xxxx is already in use". Running X5 by double-clicking on the file, running X5 first & clicking the filename from the file menu or clicking Open from the file menu & selecting the file from the list - all give that result. The only way I have loaded the file is to run X5 & drag the file to the timeline. The file has opened, but the project is shown as untitled, even though there is a title. Also the project is shown as a single entity on the timeline, not made up of individual frames & captions. Where has my project gone? Is it still in X5? I've tried to open other projects, & they all give the same message! I can't try out my trial version I it won't load my projects!
PS I've just spent a few minutes holding the mouse pointer over various icons on the X5 screen & clicking a few to see where I got. After that, I had another go at loading the file - & it loaded successfully!! I assume when I loaded X5, it came up in some mode & I managed to get it out of it.
VideoStudio :: X5 Will No Longer Load?
May 28, 2013I am using VSX5 Ultimate. I installed a program called drop box and another called Helium. After installing these programs, VSX5 will no longer load. The intro screen does not even come up. I click on my short cut and my mouse pointer spins for a few seconds, then nothing. I have checked my programs and I do not have browser protect, browser manager or babylon. I uninstalled the two programs I mentioned above and restarted my computer but nothing happens still. Should I try uninstalling VSX5 and reinstalling?

May 13, 2012I created a 30min video, with a lot of photos mixed with live video, transitions, music, etc. Now, when I try to reopen the file for futher editing, it appears the software needs to re-render all the thumbnails in my video track stream. As I mentioned, I have a lot of photos in there, so it's taking forever.
With the previous software I used (Pinnacle Studio), I could flush the cache and have the program rebuild (and store) all the thumbnail info for faster loads in subsequent sessions.
