View 3 Replies View RelatedI'd like to build a location-based quantity takeoff using compute materials (actually using a mix of QTO, composite volumes, and maybe parcels and bounded volumes but this question is specific to compute materials). I have been working on this technical challenge today and hope to have it solved by tomorrow morning.
I created a new 'Quantity Takeoff Criteria' and added materials for the items I'd like to takeoff with compute materials, such as the corridor shape volumes that are not well handled by QTO. So there are structure quantity types for materials Pave1, Base1, Curb, RW.Footing, Wall, and Barrier. But, when I return to Compute Materials I have the option to assign 1 object to each corridor shape named. Here is the problem, there are 36 pave objects named Pave1 and only 1 material Pave1.
The solution I tried is to go back and edit the code set styles to add a location prefix like 99CL1>M>06 to the link names - making 36 99CL1>*>**-Pave1 objects. But, apparently these are links and obviously not objects so the names did not go through to the compute materials objects list.
The next two approaches are: 1) Go back to the subassembly properties and edit the codeSetStyle with prefixes - I assume this means I'd need a distinct subassembly for each location, a unwieldy situation. 2) Create a specific material and shape pair for each location, for example 36 99CL1>*>**-Pave1 material and Pave1 shape pairs. An awkward workaround but preferable to defining a specific subassebly to each location.
I'm trying to move our Appearance & Materials libraries to a network location. But I'm not quite sure which files need to be moved. I copied all the files in the folder: C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAutodesk SharedMaterials, but when I change my project settings to reflect this location they're not available in the Appearance & Materials library managers.

I am having trouble setting materials for a kitchen countertop that i created by modeling in place. I think that it has something to do with the installation, and am wondering how to fix it. When I am editing the model, in the properties pallete I choose the browse button next to materials and this is what comes up:
How do I set up the materials so that they are available to choose from? I have no other materials issues with walls, etc.
When creating custom materials and utilizing them within your Revit project, are the image files embedded within the RVT file and thereby increasing file size? I was needing to know before we load down the project file (.rvt) with many custom materials. Hopefully it is just a pointer to a separate material file.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to know about the effects of adding a lot of custom images to the Project Material Library and assigning these materials to objects in the project. Does this bring the entire image file, and therefore it's size, into the Revit project file. Can this create a file size and performance issue when fully utilizing many custom material images? I know that Renderings themselves within the project will add to the file but what about assignments.

The problem is than we cant assign materials to the solids, once that we had opened on Revit.
None instance material parameter exist in order to drive the material whit a family parameter, and assignin the material by category is not enought couse we had different components in the same category. sub category assigment is also imposible cause none Subcategory parameter is shown to assign the solid to on sub category created.

I have Windows 7 64-bit, 6GB of Ram and Intel (R) Core i7 2.20GHz...(I checked all the software requirements before downloading the correct version of Revit 2012)

I have a Revit file with over 1,000 materials and associated appearance assets. It was created in a previous version of Revit before library support. What I want to do is create libraries from them. However, the only instructions to add them one at a time using dragging and dropping. That will take me days to do. Is there a way to simply create an asset or material library out of multiple materials from a project file at one time without having to individually select them?
