I'm having difficulty placing a pattern type on my materials. When I select the pattern from the list that pops up and I click "OK," the pattern selector pops back up and won't let me exit. I think that if I go back to my original pattern, it will go away. I've tried restarting Revit and various other matierals in other projects on different types of families in both the surface and cut pattern prompts. How do I chage my patterns?
I have a client who wants to see a more realistic representation of the direction of the planks in her floor. I cannot figure out ow to do this. I have succesfully changed the direction of the beam system under the floor, but cannot change the direction of the floor panel. I have tried the folllowing:
1) Going into sketch mode and changing the beam support direction.
2) Changing the pattern in the materials fsettings from horizontal to vertical.
When I save a selection in the family editor I can't seem to find the load selection button on the manage tab like you would in the project environment. The whole panel selection is not there. If I make a selection of at least two elements I get the load selection button on the modify tab. Is this as design or as forgotten?
At this moment it seems I first have to make a selection in order to load another selection.
When working on materials in Slate's "View" panel it's easy to shift/drag to make a copy of a material component. However, that operation makes a copy, not an instance, and it does not provide a prompt when drag/copying as the Compact Material Editor does. Is there an intuitive method for instancing material components within the View panel in Slate? Sure, I can switch back to the Compact Editor, but it would be better/more efficient to stay in the same material editing work environment.
Regarding Shift/Dragging materials in Slate, there's another odd behavior I'm getting. If I press Control while in the View Panel, a plus sign shows up near the cursor, which I intuit to mean it is in "copy" mode. But, Control/Dragging a material component produces no visible effects (nothing happens). what that plus next to the cursor is indicating?
How to get the all the materials back in the materials palette? When I switch to 3D Modeling and go into the Render Tab in the Materials section, I do not have any materials loaded.
I have just downloaded AutoCAD Architecture 2014 and am finding the materials editor difficult as I am used to using the 2010 materials editor. Is there a way of changing the editor back to 2010 or is there a basic tutorial available on how to use the 2014 material editor?
How to make the name of a material show up in the Compact Material Editor? For instance, if I double-click on a standard material, and put it into the first material slot, the name stays "Default-01" instead of "Concrete_brown_stucco" (for instance).
This isn't a BIG deal but it's just one more thing to slow the workflow down !
Other than rendering this scene, I was trying to see if I can get the object in model space to show the details of the material I have in the browser more accurately.
I butchered the .dwg trying to compress it to an uploadable size, so I hope it can be viewed..
I'm working on a 3-D rendering of an interior view for a client presentation. I need to create a custom material appearance for the carpet and paint to show exactly what the room is going to look like with the clients finish selections. I know there was a way to create custome materials and assign them custom appearance jpg and/or png images in Revit Architecture 2010. Is there a way to do the same thing in 2012?
None of my custom materials are rendering on the cloud. If I render it on REVIT, they come out just fine. Is there something that I need to do to get my materials to show up?
There are several i-drop items in a doors catalogue, having selected three for a tools pallette, one item is a 2 panelled door, a regular fitting, some infills are glass, so how to assign materials?
The principal panels do not list in Object Display, seem to be 'untouchables' while outter frame, stops, muntins can be assigned hardwood or softwood finishes. How to change a plain yellow object into a regular door, with or without glass?
I am having trouble setting materials for a kitchen countertop that i created by modeling in place. I think that it has something to do with the installation, and am wondering how to fix it. When I am editing the model, in the properties pallete I choose the browse button next to materials and this is what comes up:
How do I set up the materials so that they are available to choose from? I have no other materials issues with walls, etc.
When creating custom materials and utilizing them within your Revit project, are the image files embedded within the RVT file and thereby increasing file size? I was needing to know before we load down the project file (.rvt) with many custom materials. Hopefully it is just a pointer to a separate material file.
I wanted to know about the effects of adding a lot of custom images to the Project Material Library and assigning these materials to objects in the project. Does this bring the entire image file, and therefore it's size, into the Revit project file. Can this create a file size and performance issue when fully utilizing many custom material images? I know that Renderings themselves within the project will add to the file but what about assignments.
For some reason when I render any of my items that have white materials, they will not be white. They appear grey. In the shaded view they are white, but even the realistic view is grey.
I recently tried exporting an FBX file from Revit 2012 in to another 3d software as well as the FBX converter. On both occassions, the materials don't show up, nor the textures.
How does the Cost parameter in materials work in Revit? I know you can set a value for a cost. But what amount of that material is the cost associated with? For example, if I set a cost 3.00 for Common Brick, is that 3.00/unit, 3.00/sq. ft., etc?
ive noticed that in designer pro x9 the colour editor gets a cross hatch pattern when manipulating 3d or bitmap objets is this correct? if so, what is the purpose?
I finally had the opportunity to use CS6 to create a pattern. Some of the artwork contained blended symbols. When I went to save the pattern, it tells me the symbols and blends will be expanded. In CS5 I can build the artwork, using any tools I choose and drag it into the swatch panel. The source artwork remains fully intact with blends and symbols. Better yet, I can save the source artwork as a symbol and update the pattern directly from the symbol editor window. And even MORE bizarre is the fact you cannot edit a symbol while in "Pattern Edit Mode", even though the "Edit Symbol" button is clearly visible and active within Pattern Mode.
The CS6 Pattern editor is cool, but if it won't retain symbols and blends I find it a big disappointment.
I am using Revit Arch 2011 and it is more natural for me to use shift to add to a selection and control to subtract from a selection. Can this be changed and how?
I am having a problem with selecting polys (or edges for that matter) while working in the UV editor. When I draw a marquee around an entire object, my selection is not selection some polys either on the top, bottom, or on the back side of the object. The same thing happens when I use a marquee to subtract from a section. This happens both when selecting in the viewport (when the unwrap uvw modifier is active) and in the UV editor. My selection are working as they should when I am not in the modifier.
I just discovered that there is an ignore backfacing setting in the UV editor, which I, of course, had active.
Best way to quickly paint materials on the surfaces of a linked file? We need it for documentation of our interiors. Paint does not work through to the linked surfaces.
