Mar 8, 2012Best way to quickly paint materials on the surfaces of a linked file? We need it for documentation of our interiors. Paint does not work through to the linked surfaces.

Aug 16, 2013I have a problem with disappearing materials on the surface of my 3D models. I spend hours adding materials and color to my drawings using the 'ctrl' select option on the surface of 3D objects, but when I save the drawing and go back to it another time the materials seem to disappear.

Dec 13, 2013I linked a revit file of some renovations that had been done into an older revit file. This worked fine accept it did not transfer the room data over. When i try to put new rooms in they take the volume of the older rooms not the renovation imports. Why? Why? and why?
Even if I draw out the rooms when i place the room they are still separated and defined by the older room dimensions. Thats not cool that is sad?

Apr 28, 2010We use Revit Arch as our main familiy modeling software. We are just starting to model familyes in Inventor since we noticed that an EAC exchange new enviroment allows to export Inventor modeled componets into revit whith some advanteges
The problem is than we cant assign materials to the solids, once that we had opened on Revit.
None instance material parameter exist in order to drive the material whit a family parameter, and assignin the material by category is not enought couse we had different components in the same category. sub category assigment is also imposible cause none Subcategory parameter is shown to assign the solid to on sub category created.

Jan 24, 2013I have successfully opened a STEP file from our Engineering group and saved it away as an Inventor Assembly. I would like to define Materials and/or Surface finishes for all parts. Why wouldn't the Surfaces and Materials synchronize between the Styudio's Surface Creator and the BOM Materials Control in the Assembly area?
I have found the way to define a new Surface in the "Inventor Studio" Interface and saved it with a unique name. Now, I would like to assign that Surface as a Material to the parts in the assembly ... and of course I would like to define numerous other surfaces and materials for assignment to all the parts throughout the assembly. Finally, I would like these surfaces / materials to follow the model into Showcase for presentation purposes.

Feb 27, 2014I have a Revit file with over 1,000 materials and associated appearance assets. It was created in a previous version of Revit before library support. What I want to do is create libraries from them. However, the only instructions to add them one at a time using dragging and dropping. That will take me days to do. Is there a way to simply create an asset or material library out of multiple materials from a project file at one time without having to individually select them?

Jul 3, 2012I just started using PSP X4, but I have used previous versions of PSP in the past to do the following:
1. First, I use a different program (AutoCAD) that exports a .bmp. This bitmap has more than sixteen colors.
2. I open the .bmp in PSP. Then I load a 16 color palette (.pal file) by going to Image | Palette | Load Palette. This converts the .bmp to sixteen colors (just the colors that are included in the .pal file).
3. At this point, in previous versions of PSP, I am pretty sure that the Materials Palette would only display the colors from the .pal file that I had just loaded. Now with the new X4 version, it seems that the swatches shown in the Materials Palette have nothing to do with the .pal file I just loaded.
Is there a way I can force the Materials Palette to show the colors from my .pal file (and only the colors from my .pal file?

Oct 22, 2013I am having trouble with the linework reading properly. I link a CAD dwg. to my revit model and once its in my model the linework doesnt read as it does in autocad. I have dashed or hidden lines in my CAD plan and once I link it in revit they show up as solid. I am thinking it has something to do with the LTscale in autocad?

Jan 10, 2012Having issue with linked DWG which disappears arbitrarily? It is still linked and the visibility of Imported categories is set to ON, but DWG is not visible in a view. When we were linking it we set Current view only (so we can not see this DWG in other view than in the particular one).The solution is to remove DWG and link it again..What may cause it is that we copied the DWG into all levels because it contains floorplans of all levels. In every level we moved the DWG into correct position and it is working for a while. We did not find a moment when it disappears .

Jun 8, 2012I'm having a real issue with Revit that I can't get my head around or find documentation on.
I have a model setup and linked a DWG file. The DWG is a topo survey drawn in real co-ordinates. The DWG is linked center to center then then I moved and rotated it to suit the orientation of my new building in Project North. See image 01.
I've then aquaired the co-ordinates from the DWG.
I've change to True North and rotated the view. See image 02
All seems to be OK. If I detach and re-attach this DWG using the shared co-ordinated it ends up in the correct place so I've started work on my model.
However, I've noticed that when I close and re-open my model or force ther DWG to reload it shifts position and rotates so I have to detach and reattach. See image 03
Revit :: Material / Texture On Cut Surfaces?
Nov 29, 2013Been doing a couple of renders of a section through a wall with an external rain-screen cladding.Is there any way to alter the appearance / alignment of the texture shown in the cut surface (not the main surface - I can define that OK via the material).
Ideally I would like a realistic view of a material - but something that looks more like a cut CMU rather than the usual surface.Failing that - is it possible to use a flat consistent colour through all cut surfaces (ie all white) ?
I know I could do that last one in Photoshop - but it will be a real painstaking process.
Revit :: Linked CAD Not Showing In Other Views?
Jul 18, 2011I linked in a dwg floor plan and it shows on the first floor but not in the 2nd floor or any others views. I thought as long as you left "current view only" in the Link CAD Dialog box unchecked it should show in all views.

Dec 22, 2013Using Revit 2014, I link in a dwg file. I open a view and using V/G overides for Imported Categories, I turn off the Acad layers I don't want to see. Then the next time my dwg file is updated, the V/G will remain the same and I won't have to reset the layer views. Now I duplicate this view for additional views I need in my project. But I need to apply a different View Template to each view. This destroys the original V/G settings that I had set up for the dwg file.Is there a way to set up my linked file so that it retains the layer on/off settings through each update and lock it. Then I can apply different View Templates to introduce other characteristics without altering the desired layer settings.

Oct 26, 2011I have a Revit model (A) being linked into another Revit Model (B). In model B I set the VG of the linked model A to By Linked View. Now, when I do this I see all my Element Keynotes, but non of my User Keynotes show.
Things tested:
Created models C and D to try in fresh environment - All Keynotes show up
Created model E and linked A into it - User Keynotes do not show up
Overwrote the Keynote Family in A and retested - User Keynotes do not show up
So this means there is some problem in Model A that it is not pushing the User Keynotes through when linked.
Revit :: View Sheets From A Linked Model?
Dec 18, 2012I have created a big and complex Revit model, in Revit 2013. It's now time for me to print the sheets - I want them in PDF and DWF. But I really have some problems doing that. When I print to PDF it takes about 20 minutes for it to print 1 drawing - and it will not be complete - elements are missing compared to the original view. Often Revit stops working - and it's the same story when I try to save a DWF.
I think the reason why I have the problem is because of the complexity of the building's geometry. Have modeled it by importing SAT. files from Rhino - to create the form. The result is great but the file is now 370 Mb. I'm trying to link the model in to a new Revit project to minimize the file, and hopefully get the drawings printed in PDF and DWF. In the the new project I can't see the sheets from the linked file though.
Is there a way to link the sheets to another procjet?

Jul 2, 2012Revit 2012 .I have a topo file linked to the main building file.I am trying to render a 3d exterior view of the building (new construction ).I see the linked topography in black lines in my elevations.but not in the 3d view.
The question/ problem unsolved is how to get the site/ ground to be visible as per the linked topography in the 3d view of the main file . All I see is the building in the air , with a very light greyed site in a block form. I would like to see the site in earth: soil material for me to render the exterior view.
